Something similar happened to a friend of mine... she actually had to go to her OBGYN because a tampon got lost inside her.

I think you should probably get checked out too—you can't be 100% sure if it's still in there or if it just slipped out.

You don't want to risk getting Toxic Shock Syndrome if it's still tucked away in there somewhere.

I’ve finally decided I’m going to bite the bullet and make that appointment with my OB-GYN, regardless of how much I've been putting it off. It won't be until next week, though... fingers crossed everything stays stable until then.

How? I honestly don't see how that's even possible.
I get that she might not be able to get it out herself—that makes sense.
But I don't understand how a tampon can just "get lost" to the point where you aren't even sure if it's still in there.

If you wait until next week just to tell them, "Hey, I lost a tampon last week and I'm not sure if it's still inside me..."—you're going to get an earful. Not to mention, it’s potentially dangerous if it actually is still there (though I doubt it).

If you're planning on seeing a doctor for this, do it now (like, yesterday).

Honestly, you aren't thinking this through. You absolutely cannot afford to wait until next week. If there is still an infection or something trapped in there, you are looking at a very real risk of sepsis or falling into toxic shock. Not to mention the sheer physical mess and infection that could develop in the meantime. It's just too dangerous.

Fact.

If it's still in there, your health is already at serious risk. Waiting until next week could mean dying from sepsis.
If you've checked thoroughly and are certain it's gone, then fine.

Fine... she was out at a restroom, put a tampon in, and stayed out all night. When she got home, half-drunk, she instinctively pushed one in (without taking the old one out), and it just pushed the first one deeper.

And that's it. I know what you're going to say—that it's stupid, irresponsible, or just plain idiotic... but it happens. It could happen to anyone.

Angel, don't mess around with this stuff... I actually went into septic shock... barely made it out alive...
Toxic shock syndrome is explained in the instructions on every single box of tampons you buy.

Carol Brooks41 said:Well, isn't that just lovely... so Vani was out at a party, used a tampon in a public restroom, and stayed out all night... Then she gets home, a little tipsy, and instinctively tries to push the tampon back in—only to realize she never actually took the first one out, so she basically just shoved it even deeper...

And there you have it. I already know what the comments are going to be... "That's so stupid," "How irresponsible," "What an idiot"... but look, life happens. It could happen to literally anyone if they're having enough drinks.

I mean, seriously, this sounds absolutely insane! That had to hurt like absolute hell! 😲😲😲

I don't know... if they were small enough, maybe it didn't hurt that much—plus, you have to factor in that she was heavily intoxicated...

She ended up at the doctor where they had to pull it out with huge tweezers.

Damn, it’s embarrassing, but I'd take the embarrassment over sepsis or toxic shock any day.

Right??

True, but the vagina isn't a bottomless pit.
If you have long enough fingers and you're in the right position, you can reach all the way to the cervix.

I assume your friend knew the tampon was in there but couldn't get it out herself (which I get), but for her to push it so deep that she can't even feel it anymore? That's hard for me to believe.

Look... Carol Brooks41, I honestly don't know, so I can't give you a definitive answer—I didn't dig into those specifics.
The point is, it’s possible the tampon "fell out," it's possible the OP just lost it, or it's possible it's still in there.

Like I said, I barely survived my own sepsis, and while we're all sitting here debating whether she misplaced it or if it actually slipped out... I think it’s much smarter for the OP to just go to a gynecologist. She needs to drop the shame and the embarrassment...it's better to walk in and ask why they're treating her, rather than showing up way too late.

I know. I told her that immediately, but she should have gone this past Monday.

Well, you did everything you could, just like everyone else... now the ball is entirely in her court.

Exactly. You guys really went above and beyond, and I appreciate all the advice. I’ve decided to head to my OB-GYN, though unfortunately, I can't get an appointment until Tuesday... damn.

Are you seriously saying there's a nine-day window where a tampon could just be sitting inside you??
After seeing a doctor, maybe go see a therapist too... sorry if that sounds harsh... but reading that was even harsher.

If that happened to me (though the chances are zero since I don't drink... but whatever)... I would grab my car keys this very second and head straight to the ER. Toxic shock syndrome or who knows what else... I would never take that risk.

It’s honestly eye-opening sometimes just how much some women refuse to take responsibility for themselves...
How can you even sleep at night knowing there might be something inside you that could completely derail your entire life?
For God's sake, women, you're out here risking sepsis and God knows what other terrifying illnesses...
I genuinely don't know how to react to someone being so casual about this. I'm actually heading in for my appointment this Tuesday...
Let's just hope I haven't waited too long...

I honestly can't believe this... how old are you actually?? Seriously, when everyone is telling you that you need to see a doctor immediately, you have to listen. You can't just play around when it comes to something as dangerous as Toxic Shock Syndrome🙄—it's terrifying. Maybe you aren't some teenager anymore, but this feels incredibly immature

So, how did the whole situation with the missing tampon actually wrap up? I’m curious about the outcome, though I can't speak for everyone else here...🙄

I guess it’s fine... at least she didn't die from toxic shock syndrome...
