You hit the nail on the head regarding the first part, but you’re completely off base when it comes to the second half of this whole situation... only Mass managed to clear that hurdle.

I can’t help but feel that Alonso was just being far too passive throughout the whole thing.

He’s been sitting in the penalty box for way too long now...

Nick Heidfeld’s penalty... I found the whole thing incredibly suspicious, honestly, especially considering how he managed to pull up right in front of Fernando Alonso despite being so far behind him earlier on.

That German driver is playing team tactics now... he won't be heading into the pits until Robert Kubica manages to pull ahead just a little bit.

it was obvious to me from the jump that they weren't faster than Ferrari, McLaren, or BMW, though they were definitely closing the gap... but during that first pit stop, he was lagging behind by about five laps—well, more like a second and a half—compared to someone like Robert Kubica, and then he ended up stuck right behind Rubens Barrichello

up until this race, Ferrari would have been pulling a thirty-second lead over Renault within fifteen laps

however, you failed to give the German any credit for those two or three laps he had...

it turns out he really is a team player 👍

Alonso stays optimistic after early exit

While Fernando Alonso's performance at the April 27, 2008 US Grand Prix ended in a cloud of smoke and far too soon, the former World Champion isn't letting it get him down, maintaining that this entire weekend might actually signal a massive comeback for the Renault team.

The local fans in Barcelona were absolutely thrilled when Alonso snatched second on the grid, and even though it looked like he was destined for a fifth-place finish just before that engine gave out, the driver was genuinely pleased with how much the car's pace has improved lately.

"It’s never what you want, especially when you're racing in front of your own people, but I’m feeling good," Fernando told ITV. "The fact that Felipe Massa had to pit two laps before I did really highlights just how strong our qualifying pace actually was.

"We were right there breathing down the necks of the BMW drivers, so it feels like I can actually enjoy racing again," he went on. "We aren't stopping here; we've finally found the right path to follow, and if we just take it one steady step at a time, we'll get back to the top. "

Honestly, those people who kept insisting that the Barcelona circuit was just plain boring were absolutely right...

The cars were practically neck-and-neck in terms of performance, yet nobody even bothered to make a real attempt at an overtake...

It’s just fundamentally impossible here

It seems like whoever I decide to root for ends up dropping out of the race; I even found myself pulling for Fernando Alonso during this one, but he didn't make it through. I guess I've always had a soft spot for 👍 Nico Rosberg, Heikki Kovalainen, and Nick Heidfeld, but lately, they haven't really been 😢

From here on out, I think I'll put my support behind Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen, and by extension, the whole Ferrari team. Forza Ferrari! 😈

Well, you saw how much they struggled—Nick Heidfeld with Giancarlo Fisichella and Alexander Wurz with Saturday's driver—even though he was about three or four seconds faster per lap before he finally caught up.

Looks like Kimi and Felipe Massa are finally on speaking terms.😁
