Motherboard: MSI B75MA-E31 LGA 1155 300-$133
CPU: Intel i5-3350P 3.1 GHz/1155 Ivy 400-$167
HDD: Samsung 500 GB SATA2 16 MB F3 ~$33
GPU: MSI R9 270 2 GB GAMING ---------- BROKEN!!! ----- ???
RAM: DDR3 8 GB (1x8) Kingston 1600 HX 250-$100
PSU: XFX 450W ~$50
Case: Zalman Z3 Plus mid tower case ~150
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB SATA $13

The motherboard is a bit tricky because those LGA 1155 boards are pretty high in demand. I’d put it at $133, though they might fly off the shelf quick.

As for the graphics card, what kind of failure are we talking about? If you're seeing artifacts, someone might want to try a repair, maybe bake it, so you might get around 300 for it. If it's totally dead, maybe 50-$33 if someone just needs the heatsink or fans or something similar.

As for the GPU, what kind of damage are we talking about here? Like, if it’s just showing artifacts, someone might want to grab it for parts to bake it, so maybe you could squeeze like 300 bucks out of it. But if the thing is totally fried... I don't know, maybe 50-$33 if somebody just needs the heatsink or a fan or something.

The guy told me the actual chip is shot, so it's definitely not worth trying to fix it.

Thanks for the breakdown, so I'm looking at roughly $500 max.

I'll have to see what I decide to do. Still weighing all my options.

If you were to sell this thing off piece by piece, MAYBE you might get close to that number. As a complete bundle? You aren't breaking $1,000, because I highly doubt anyone is looking to buy an entire setup based on such outdated architecture. If someone happens to be hunting for one specific part, they'll reach out.

That’s what I was thinking too, you know, if you were just selling them off piece by piece. Thanks again!

Could I get an estimate on this build?

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 Le R2
CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz
HDD: WD Green 500GB
SSD: Kingston 256 GB
GPU: XFX HD 7850 2GB
RAM: DDR3 Kingston 8 GB (2x4GB) 1600 MHz
PSU: Thermaltake Smart SE 520W
Case: Just some basic generic case, not counting that in the price
CD/DVD: Just a standard drive

Everything is about 4 years old, except for the power supply which is 3 years old, and the SSD is just under 2 years old.

I'm looking for a valuation on the whole setup, but I'm especially curious what I could get for the CPU, motherboard, and GPU combined. I might just do an upgrade instead, since the rest of the parts are mostly fine.

Just drop your specs here. Who knows, maybe someone might be willing to give you something up to $167

So, I'm torn: should I grab the Alienware M18X R2 or go with an Acer Predator?

What's the price tag on these, and what kind of hardware specs are we looking at?

If you're asking me, they go for about $7,000. I can't recall the exact specs for the Predator model, but the Alienware had a Core i7, 3820QM running at 4x 2.7 GHz, and all that good stuff mentioned in the listing...

No way am I paying that much; that price is ancient history. Honestly, you can grab a brand-new laptop today for even less money that comes equipped with a gtx 1050 ti and a crisp IPS display. There is absolutely no chance that Alienware M18X R2 is packing a GPU like that, and don't even get me started on how inefficient it must be.

What kind of resale value am I looking at for an MSI z87 g45, an i5 4670k, and 16GB of RAM? Maybe somewhere in the ballpark of a decent used PC part sale, I guess.

Honestly, the only way Windows 10 adds any value here is if it’s actually legitimate.

- CPU is basically pegged at 100%$50
- FM2 motherboard is worth about $33
- RAM is roughly $33
- GPU is sitting around $50
- HDD, assuming it isn't a total paperweight, maybe $17
