Hello

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 on an LGA 775 platform
4GB DDR2
ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB

I suppose this setup should be able to run NASCAR 2014, NASCAR 2015, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Project CARS, rFactor 2, and similar titles.

The monitor is 19 inches with a resolution of 1360x720, which I think will allow for playing at medium settings. What are your thoughts? I don't really have any money for an upgrade right now, though I might be able to stretch to maybe $200 at most.$100.

It's a pretty old platform, but it should be fine for that resolution. A Quad-core CPU paired with that 4890 (which basically needs its own power plant 😬) should be enough if you drop the settings a bit at that res. Just keep in mind that card officially only supports DirectX 10.1, not DirectX 11, so MAYBE some of those titles you mentioned won't run great if they rely on specific DirectX 11 features. As for upgrading, you can't really do anything worthwhile with $200$100...

Are you picking this up from someone, or do you already have it on hand? It really shouldn't give you much trouble; those games aren't exactly hardware hogs. Honestly, I think you could probably push it to high settings if you just dial back the AA a bit.

I am buying it, and I would like to play them. I think the price is fair, and the computer has been tested; it's coming from a friend, specifically $267.

The rest is just a Chiftec case, and I am not sure about the power supply.

The memory is something like 1066 MHz, and according to him, the processor stays constantly at 3GHz, though it can go quite a bit higher than that.

Go ahead and grab them... I managed to run rFactor 2 and Assetto Corsa pretty smoothly on medium settings at 1080p using my current i5 processor (which is quite a bit faster than an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 3GHz) and an old HD 5750 (slightly weaker than an ATI Radeon HD 4890).

I previously owned an i5 paired with an NVIDIA GTX 660, but I was unfortunately forced to sell it due to circumstances beyond my control. It would have likely continued to run the games mentioned.

The current offer seems reasonable to me, so I wanted to reach out and ask for some advice before I commit to a purchase that might not be worth it. 🙂

$267 is a great deal for a full PC with those specs. I just hope the power supply is up to the task since those parts pull a fair amount of juice.

I’ve personally run some pretty demanding titles on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 paired with a Radeon HD 6850—both running at stock settings—without hitting any major snags. I'm talking about everything from Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed to Rogue from 2014, plus Metro 2033 & The Last Light Redux, Battlefield 4, and Far Cry 3 and 4. Because of that, this specific setup should handle the games listed here just fine. My only real gripe is the power draw; the GPU pulls quite a bit of juice, and since it's getting pretty old, I wouldn't be surprised if it runs hot. Honestly, during this chilly time of year, it might actually save me a few bucks on the heating bill by acting like a little space heater. 😁

THX. I'll head out to pick it up tomorrow. Regarding the power supply, it should be fine since the PC is running smoothly, and honestly, it was priced like pure gold, so hopefully, it holds up. It’s got fresh thermal paste applied, and the case itself is quite massive, heavy, and spacious; it looks brand new from the outside. I'm not sure which specific Chiftec model it is, but I suppose it doesn't really matter.

I might consider adding another two or four GB of RAM later on if I feel the need, and as for the graphics card, I'll probably look for a used one from a newer generation that's more power-efficient in a few months.🙂

Honestly, I was gonna try to talk you out of buying used the second I heard, but once I saw the price tag, I figured it’s actually a solid deal.

I mean, just think about it... how much sense does it really make to dump money into an old rig and hunt down outdated RAM? Maybe just weigh your options...

Project CARS is a beast of a game. It’s probably going to struggle on an Intel Core 2 Quad, honestly. Everything else should run just fine though. 😉

A buddy of mine tried running Project CARS on an Intel Core 2 Quad clocked at 3.0 GHz with a GTX 260, and let's just say it wasn't exactly a smooth ride. I haven't tested it on my own setup—an Intel Pentium G1840 paired with a standard GTX 260—but I doubt I'd see much of an improvement. Don't let anyone fool you; Project CARS isn't some lightweight Tetris clone like you might think. 😉

I’m telling you, it’ll work—I personally ran it on a Q8200 paired with an HD6850 😉
