So, I downloaded this four-part movie series—each part is about 1GB—and they’re all in
.VOB format. It plays fine on my PC, but it won't work on my DVD player. I'm looking to either convert them into
.avi format or just burn them onto a DVD if that's even an option. Does anyone know which
software would be the easiest way to handle this? If you could provide some instructions along with the recommendation (provided it isn't too much of a
hassle), I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance... cheers.

AVS Video Editor can handle 👍

The catch is it isn't free... 😁

You’ve also got "Gordian Knot" along with a whole bunch of little utilities for converting formats—honestly, it's a total steal.
Anything you need can be found on those Bug or PC Magazine discs.

Exactly, it’s a total Gordian Knot, but you have this tool called VLC Media Player that lets you convert those .vob files into either .mpg or .avi formats—you just have to select whichever codec you prefer...
Hold on a second, if I recall correctly, .vob is the standard extension for DVD movies. I think I remember ripping DVDs into AVI files using VLC Media Player a long time ago, and if my memory serves me right, once you decrypt a DVD onto your computer, it ends up as a .vob file.
Maybe try burning that .vob file and putting it into a DVD player, or perhaps you could just merge the files using a virtual drive.

Exactly. A VOB is basically just a video file sitting on a DVD. It slipped my mind too, but hey, try using "Nero Burning ROM" to mux those into a proper video DVD. You'll end up with VOB files around 1GB again, plus those IFO and BUP files. That sounds like a standard VOB file size to me.😁

If you just grab all those .vob files along with the .ifo file and burn them onto a DVD, they should play perfectly on your home DVD player. There really isn't any need to mess around with converting anything or trying to merge them together first.

So, quick question for the true experts here.😬

I’ve got these four mini DVDs I recorded directly on my camera, and now I’m trying to consolidate everything onto a single DVD.
The problem is, every single one of those four discs has VOB files with identical names. It won't let me copy them all to one disc because they clash, and if I rename them, the player won't recognize them.
Can someone walk me through how to organize this so it actually works? I should probably mention that I am completely clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff.😳>

Maybe you could try renaming them to look like this:
VTS_01_1.VOB,
VTS_01_2.VOB,
VTS_01_3.VOB,
VTS_01_4.VOB,
VTS_01_5.VOB...

So I gave that a shot, but here's the thing: no matter which file I click on, it just keeps opening this first one with the auto-assigned number. All the ones where I actually made changes—the ones that should count—they just won't open at all. Total zero for me. 😎

If you happen to have any leftover paint, you can just pair it up with some Nero Vision software to get everything synced up perfectly.
