Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)

I just managed to finish watching this movie.
I have to admit, it took me two attempts to actually get through it.
I’m usually a huge fan of SFa, fantasy, and similar genres, so I can handle pretty much anything they throw my way.
Honestly, I can sit through some really bad stuff without blinking.

But this? This is easily some of the worst trash ever made. I truly can't wrap my head around how a film like this could win any award other than a Razzie.
There isn't even a real plot; the multiverse concept is just shoved in there for no reason, and the acting is non-existent because there's zero substance to work with. Plus, they threw in two lesbians just because it's trendy right now. All they're missing is a Black lead to check every single box for the current state of the American film industry.
I feel like I need to go watch an old movie about flying sharks, crocodiles, or anacondas just to cleanse my palate.

1. Around 11:30 tonight, I finally decided to sit down and watch this movie—the one everyone expects to sweep the Oscars (at least, that was my thought earlier tonight).
I figured, why not? Let me experience an Oscar winner for the very first time on the actual night they hand out the awards.

2. One friend had already warned me that the film was absolute garbage. 😲🤔🤔

3. Honestly, I barely made it past the 25-minute mark before it became unwatchable. I actually ended up turning it off.
I tried speeding through some scenes toward the end just to see if it improved, but it all felt like mindless chaos and unnecessary filler.

4. I have to admit, I’ve never actually walked away from a movie in my entire life!! 🤔

5. Can someone please help me understand how a film like this is considered so good?
How on earth did it win an Oscar?

I honestly think this is terrible. Look, film is an art form, and I get that we don't all have to see things the same way—we shouldn't, actually—but I don't see anything remotely interesting about this movie.
I can't even remember the last time I had to struggle this much just to sit through a film...

My husband and I finally sat down to watch the movie last night before the awards ceremony...
I honestly don't get why people are finding this so hard to follow, it’s actually kind of weird to see so many of you claiming it was a struggle. Sure, the editing is snappy, but we aren't exactly rookies when it comes to sitting through a movie... 🤷

First off, we were cracking up—the visual gags were hilarious, and even though they were pretty simple, we spent most of the runtime laughing our heads off. Those hot dogs were funny, man, just all those little bits where the characters do weird stuff kept us grinning...
Secondly, as a middle-aged mom with a quirky daughter, someone who’s been both semi-successful and a total mess in various areas of life, and blessed with a really great husband, I found myself connecting with the protagonist almost immediately... there were definitely some tears mixed in with the laughter. It felt like a real family experience. People insisting that the movie is nothing but "woke" just seem unable to wrap their heads around the idea that they aren't the only demographic that deserves screen time. They're always so quick to throw around that word absolutely...

Now, look, the film isn't perfect. The last third gets a bit predictable in that overly sentimental, emotional way, and they probably could have trimmed down the action scenes or handled the whole multiverse concept with a bit more punch. I also couldn't tell if the Bagel thing was meant to represent depression or something else entirely... It leans heavily on cinephile tropes, which makes it feel like a genuine breath of fresh air. I haven't seen the other nominees, so I can't say if it deserved all the hype, but the costume design hit the mark for me in several spots. Still, I’m genuinely baffled that so many people found it too demanding to keep up with; for us, it was an easy, enjoyable watch...

The film is pointless and nothing special, but it’s fine. Watchable, almost even fun. There is just such a massive mountain of unwatchable cinematic garbage from the last 20 years that everyone swallows without question... including those Marvel disasters... it honestly irritates me how people here are talking out of their asses claiming this movie is incredibly hard to sit through and complete crap... 🙄

It’s not senseless at all! To me, it's about love and accepting yourself exactly where you are, without all that wandering through "metaverses" of what-if destinies.
I think it's a genijalan film, though I guess it's definitely not for everyone—you can tell just by reading the comments.

I see the craft there—solid acting, some clever self-aware genre play—but those gray, static shots? They absolutely kill me. I suspect they were going for that hyper-stimulated brain fog you get from scrolling through Instagram or TikTok—just constant, rapid-fire input where everything is loud and immediate, the stupider and more entertaining it is.

The movie is a bit of a mess, but it’s charming. Is it really that hard to follow? It’s easy to watch and quite pleasant. A masterpiece? Not quite. Will it win an Oscar? I honestly can't say, because an Oscar doesn't define quality for me. You have to realize that the Oscar is just the American version of Eurovision for movies.
