Quick question for the eye care pros out there—I’m looking into getting some colored contact lenses without any prescription correction.

Could someone give me the lowdown? Like, is wearing them actually going to hurt my eyes? And how long am I allowed to wear them before it becomes an issue? Also, when I'm looking at options, should I go with a zero power (+0.00), or does it matter if I pick a minus or plus setting instead? Just trying to figure this out before I dive in...

You can wear it for a few hours a day, but anything more than that is bad news. The pigment basically chokes off oxygen flow or something along those lines.

I had them quite a while back—I think I actually mentioned it on the forum once. I’m not entirely sure what the recommended daily wear limit was, but they expired about 15 days after opening... they cost me around $5 at the time.

How long does it last? I had no idea there was even an expiration date on this...

Honestly, colored contacts are just hideous (at least in my book and according to pretty much everyone I hang out with).
One girl was wearing them the other day. The whole gimmick is this little circle on the lens meant to sit under your pupil—which stays clear, obviously—but since your pupil constantly dilates and shrinks, you end up seeing bits of your actual eye color peeking through anyway.
This girl had on blue and green ones, and it was so obvious they were fake. A ton of people were lowkey roasting her, saying she looked straight-up like a zombie.

I picked these up about two months ago and honestly, I'm loving them. The prescription pair arrives $83, while the ones without $67 do. I usually wear them once or twice a week for just a few hours at a time. You definitely shouldn't leave them in too long—they can cause some irritation because of that colored coating.

Why on earth don't all lenses have an expiration date? 😕

Where did you pick those up? Do they only carry the standard colors, or can you find something more unique, like cat-eye styles?

They have a bunch of different colors. I grabbed mine at the Optima shop in San Francisco.

Isn't that just throwing money down the drain?
What even is this "influencer girl" trend 🙂

What even is a "trendy girl" these days? Honestly—it feels like a label people throw around whenever they want to judge someone for actually putting effort into their look. To me, it’s just someone who stays on top of what's happening—you know, keeping up with the latest styles or whatever is blowing up on TikTok. Some see it as being shallow, but I don't know—I think it's just about having an interest in fashion and culture. It's not that deep. 🙂

Nah, I just want to go blonde for a little while—just a temporary thing. It’s all for my partner.😁

I would love to switch to green eyes every once in a while, though I think experimenting with blue or gray tones would be equally wonderful. 😍 Every time I consider buying colored contact lenses, I find myself hesitating because it feels like a bit of a waste of money. 😢 Maybe I'll take them along on vacation next summer. 😁

I’m not even sweating the money part, honestly. Twenty bucks isn't exactly breaking the bank—it's basically what I end up dropping anyway when I'm out grabbing coffee with a friend and pick up a pack of cigarettes on the way.
And look, I love my green eyes, I really do, but I can't help wondering what it would be like to make them pop just a little more, you know? Just to see how it looks.
Some women spend all this time dyeing their hair, but I've always thought... why not just dye your eyes? There's nothing wrong with wanting a little change.

Women dye their hair all the time—why shouldn't I try changing my eye color? There's nothing wrong with that.

I read that you actually bought them. Tell me, how long can you wear them after you first put them in?

The guy gave me some extra solution so I can make these last up to three months if I’m diligent about "soaking" them; otherwise, they're only good for about two weeks
if they just stay in that original liquid they came in. He mentioned it's actually a good idea to swap out the solution regularly because it helps disinfect them and stretches out their lifespan a bit...
