Experimental noise rock outfit AIDS Wolf hails from Montreal and has been around for just over two years now. After hitting the road constantly across Canada, they dropped their debut full-length, "The Lovvers LP" (Sub Pop) in 2006—which actually got an expanded vinyl release via Skin Graft Records. They kicked off their first European tour in early 2006, too. Honestly, being tight with Montreal bands like The Unicorns and Wolf parade really helped them get their foot in the door early on—even Wolf parade drummer Arlen Thompson jumped in to help record the album! Their sound? It’s high-energy, chaotic, and dynamic, yet strangely focused. They take absolute mayhem and turn it into something electrifying that pulls you right into their sense of freedom—something they captured perfectly in their debut manifesto: "Freedom Summer is being on the Road. It's being part of nature, snuggling with wild animals and howling, naked, in the woods. It's The AIDS Wolf way of Life : Live Pure". Beyond the music, duo Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau handle the band's visual design, which has garnered quite a bit of buzz. Their creative process is pretty wild—they listen to raw noise music to clear their heads, then just draw whatever images start swirling in their minds. Want to see (and hear) what they're about? Holding down the home turf is experimental metal band Jesus Christ Attorney, who started out as an instrumental trio tinkering with everything from metal to ethno and prog. Since late 2005, they've added vocals to the mix, making their sound even more complex. They’ve become real genre-hoppers—dipping into ambient, opera, Spanish folk, blues, swing, and electronica—all while keeping that unmistakable metal edge and treating the vocals as just another instrument.
