That early era is my absolute favorite... that's the real Cohen right there. Just him and his guitar, maybe some bass or a string section thrown in. He’s such a killer songwriter. The melodies are super interesting, even if they get repetitive sometimes (think Seems So Long Ago, Nancy, or Story of Isaac... honestly, most of his tracks don't even have choruses).

There’s so much you can dive into with Cohen. That new biography is actually pretty fascinating, and I see Various Positions is doing really well on the charts.

I'm totally with you on those first four albums. Those songs are close to my heart, too...
Yeah, he definitely repeats himself, but I guess that's just part of his vibe... though I'll admit, some stuff on the "newer" records can be a bit much sometimes... haha... the man is a poet, though!

I’ve always been a fan of "Take This Longing," too. It's got that... delicate vibe.

There’s just so much good stuff here—I can’t even pick a favorite.
But honestly, "Who by Fire" feels like it’s from some other dimension... totally otherworldly.

To be more specific: summer means outdoor concerts. I don't do outdoor shows as a matter of principle, regardless of how much I love and respect Cohen or how profitable it might be. I have zero interest in organizing a months-long project costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, only to spend the final seven days—and the day itself—praying to the heavens that we don't get hit by a monsoon that ruins everything because those old-timers are unpredictable. 😬 I refuse to let my success depend on something like that.
That said, I'm 100% certain enough masochistic promoters will sign up for the headache that if there's any chance he comes to America, it'll happen. Madison Square Garden was practically built for him, but let someone else deal with the stress; I'll just show up as a fan. 😁

In that case, ticket prices would be one thing $1.00. It’s the same logic for Carnegie Hall—it would be an incredible venue for him right here in Washington, D.C. Best of all, tickets at that price point would actually fly off the shelves.

...just you go ahead and organize it, you sellout. The guy’s got a heart of gold... he might not even ask for a fee... maybe even do it for charity... and we'd gladly chip in a couple bucks each...

But honestly, nothing could touch how insane Lazy sounded at the Byrne concert—those ten or fifteen minutes of pure, frantic rhythm where it felt—and I know this sounds sacrilegious—like Byrne finally stumbled upon that ultimate, hypnotic groove he’d been chasing since his Talking Heads days.🙂

Actually, it was just as hypnotic as what those other two heads achieved so effortlessly on the first Taj Tom Club album.😉

He's on tour now, so maybe he'll swing back our way again.🙂🙂

Not to hijack the thread, but I love, listen to (well, less lately), and deeply respect Cohen. A once-in-a-generation talent.😍

Like, for example:

but there was so many people you just had to meet

It's impossible to make "top charts" out of Cohen.

Btw, he's prepping for a tour; Europe is on the schedule too.😍
