If my memory serves, John Doe started out as a basic war simulation before it actually evolved into a sport.

Heh, I might have actually posted something similar myself. Nice one, Drew Phillips3, you really picked the absolute best movie about Airsoft😘. My only gripe is that about 80% of this gear is totally out of reach for us here in the States—plus, we definitely don't have access to an APC (armored personnel carrier) just lying around for fun.🙏

November 19th. We’re planning a John Doe match out on Maui near Mount Rainier. Expecting about 25 guys to show up—definitely no ladies involved (just kidding, maybe a little crying if things get intense). Good grief, what is actually going on with you people? How can you possibly not be interested in Airsoft? 😬

I've been looking into getting into Airsoft lately, but I was checking out this one shop here in the States that carries HM-Sport gear, and I noticed they have these AEG replicas going for over $200, while some of those spring rifles are sitting right around $200. Since I'm still pretty much a total newbie at this, could someone explain what the actual difference is between the two?

Here’s how I see the fundamental difference between Airsoft enthusiasts (the "hobbyists") and Paintball players (the "athletes").

In a hypothetical national defense scenario:
Airsoft:
1. Most "hobbyists" would step up to join an active defense and actually help defend their home soil.
2. Experienced "hobbyists" would likely have a better shot at survival than the "athletes" because they’ve actually learned something from these simulations (not saying they're professional soldiers, obviously), and they definitely have much higher survival odds than the average mobilized civilian who isn't into either hobby.

Paintball:
1. Most "athletes" could head overseas to compete in major international tournaments during a conflict to rake in huge prize money and funnel those funds back into helping their country's defense.
2. If those experienced "athletes" can't make it abroad, they could join the active defense. They’re basically perfect for charging headfirst into things or using "spray and pray" tactics—as long as you provide them with a combat zone roughly 35x60 meters, some inflatable barriers, and maybe some lighting if visibility gets low.

Honestly, if Airsoft ever officially becomes a "sport," I’ll never tell anyone I do it, and here’s why:

By definition, a SPORT exists to entertain the participants and the audience (kind of like a circus or a reality TV show). People don't build anything constructive *out of* sports; they do constructive things *because* of them. Sports might give you a healthy body or foster a sense of brotherhood, but that's about it.

Airsoft isn't a simulation of WAR; it's a simulation of military and police operations. When special forces (military or SWAT) raid a building to take down mobsters or terrorists, is that considered war?

Paintball is more like a simulation of gangster shootouts!

Out of the 18 million people involved in Paintball, what percentage has switched over to Airsoft, and how many went the other way? I want the stats!

Not sure which thread this belongs in, but besides this forum, is there a number I can call? I saw some guys playing out on Maui once, going at it hard in their gear and tactical vests... any info would be appreciated.
