Day of the Dead (2008)

It’s a solid film, honestly! I enjoyed it, though I can't help but feel like it's missing just a few key ingredients to truly earn that "cult classic" status. Don't you think? It almost gets there, but it just needs that extra bit of magic to become an all-time legend!

I have to admit, the second half of the movie feels like a bit of a letdown in terms of momentum, but as a complete package, it holds its own beautifully. There’s this palpable sense of unease, a tension and a feeling of uncertainty that just radiates right off the screen. I first caught this one on a grainy late-night broadcast, and every subsequent viewing has only reinforced my belief that it’s a solid piece of filmmaking from every angle. From what I can gather, it’s one of those rare films—it isn't even technically a zombie flick—that doesn't just pay lip service to Romer, but actually draws inspiration from another classic: Day of the Triffids; you know, that story about an invasion by, get this, poisonous plants.

Exactly. That’s why I love zombie flicks—it's all about that tension and atmosphere. Being surrounded by hundreds of the living dead who want to eat you while wondering if your hideout is even safe... But having grown up on Romer's zombie
classics, 28 Days Later feels somewhat lukewarm to me. 😁 Still, Boyle is a talented director: Trainspotting and Shallow Grave are great. 👍

Hmm... I am genuinely curious about this film, but it feels like the concept was lifted from Stephen King. In Creepshow, there is a segment involving a meteorite hitting Earth that causes plants to sprout everywhere, especially when they hit water. Or did Stephen lift the idea?...🤔

I haven't actually sat down to watch the movie, but I did dive into the book. In the novel, there’s this massive meteor shower streaking across the sky, and people are just standing there, staring up in total awe, only to wake up the next morning completely blinded by whatever radiation or light show was happening. But that wasn't even the worst part—those meteors also carried the seeds of these nasty, lethal alien plants, the Triffids. At the time the story kicks off, the protagonist happens to be in the hospital, which makes him one of the lucky few who didn't lose his sight. These plants move pretty slowly, but they are everywhere, and trying to manage or wipe them out when you're effectively blind is a nightmare. In the book, our survivors end up searching for some kind of sanctuary out on a farm...
That book is fantastic; it has that same nail-biting tension you get from zombie stories, just with a totally different kind of antagonist. Now, I can't quite recall who took inspiration from whom or who borrowed what from whom, but in my opinion, both works (both King and the Triffids) feel completely original.

So, word on the street is that the "remake" of Creepshow isn't actually going to be a remake at all! If that's true, we might be looking at a release around 2008, right? What do you guys think?

It’s a full-on remake, but word on the street is it might be more like how the original Dawn and its remake turned out—meaning it probably won't stick to the original script one bit.

But hey, that's just speculation from some forums I was browsing. At the end of the day, they should just do whatever they want, as long as the final product turns out great, right?

Man, it’s getting ridiculous how complicated everything has become—sequels, prequels, remakes... It used to be simple: you had a movie title, and then maybe a 2 or a 3 after it, but now it's just a total mess. 😁 😁 😁

I realize this isn't Day of the Dead, but we are actually talking about 28 Weeks Later. The plot details have been released, along with information regarding the director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo:

I honestly think this whole thing turned out to be a total disaster, mostly because the director isn't even American!

There isn't just one version of Halloween out there. I've got my own copy of Halloween, and now I'm downloading the sequel, plus there's Night of the Living Dead 3D out there too.

There’s actually an original Romerov version out there—this one we’re discussing is just a remake—and then you have Day of the Dead 2. Personally? I think that movie is a total disaster. I’ve got it on my hard drive, and while it’s certainly worth a watch if you're bored, I wouldn't recommend sitting through it more than once! 🙂

Don't forget, there is also Candyman 3: Day of the Dead. There isn't any actual 3D involved in that one, though I know they did film Night of the Living Dead 3D

Haha, look, there are definitely some decent scenes in there, but man, the acting is just painful... absolute coma territory! They were actually supposed to follow it up with a third installment, but they pulled the plug entirely because the ratings for the second one were such a total disaster. 😬

I can't seem to get this one to download. I managed to grab the first two parts just fine, but this one is being stubborn, so oh well!
It would be a huge lifesaver if anyone had it—ideally in AVI or MPG format—and wouldn't mind sending it my way!

I'm actually liking the plot. It looks like they're heading into a military bunker, so I assume there will be plenty of weapons to find and they'll just tear through the zombies.
Now I'm wondering, which zombies are considered the "original" ones? Are we talking about the fast ones or the slow ones? 😬
Just trying to prepare myself for if I ever run into them; if they're fast, then damn... but if they're slow, maybe it's fine. 😈
