nerve cells
they estimate you'd be dead after 11 days

So, what’s your record for staying awake?

An excursion, once. I got about 4 hours of sleep over an 8-day stretch. (After that, I crashed for like 50 hours straight.)
I did 4 days straight without any sleep once.
My average is usually around 5 hours, but I get stuck in deep work sometimes and end up pulling 2 or 3 day stretches without sleeping—maybe two or three times a year.

I'm a fan of sleep 🙂. Getting seven to eight hours is my sweet spot; I miss it occasionally, but then I just make up for the deficit later 🙂))

Around 5 o'clock, sometimes even earlier.....
I went about five days without any sleep—not even a minute—and afterward, I felt like a literal walking zombie. Now, I’m barely getting any rest at all, so this lack of sleep is starting to take a massive toll on me.

Back when I was younger, I used to pull 12 hours of sleep easily

Now? I just feel like I’m wasting my life if I sleep too much—so I aim for about 7.5 hours on workdays, then try to catch up with a solid 10 on the weekends

If I don't get my full eight hours of sleep, my brain basically just shuts down on me—total system failure!

36 hours—though I was only 18 at the time. 😉 Couldn't make it happen today—but honestly, I just crashed and slept for like 18 hours straight right after.

I’m pulling maybe 5 or 6 hours on a typical weeknight—honestly, I’m basically running on fumes—but then I’ll crash for like 8 or 9 hours over the weekend and call it even.

Man, I really miss those weekday afternoon naps—seriously, my soul needs them. 😛 Post-lunch vibes... honestly the best part of my day.

I once managed to pull a seventy-hour marathon without sleep, followed by a solid twenty-four-hour crash—just like I used to do back in my college days... but honestly? These days, there is absolutely no way I'm pulling that off again.

Wait, you did that during high school graduation week?!?
I was the exact same way...

Usually, though, I need at least 8 hours. I’m a total sleep lover. Honestly, if I cut it down to 12 or 13 hours, I actually forget what it feels like to be rested... I just feel terrible... 😉

I need at least 9 hours to fully recharge my batteries. Honestly though, it’s less about the total sleep and more about my rhythm—when I actually hit the sack and when I get up. If I crash at 2 AM and roll out at 9 AM, that’s only 7 hours, but I feel totally fine. But if I go to bed at 11 PM and wake up at 7 AM? Even though that’s technically 8 hours, I’m basically a zombie all day.
The longest I’ve ever gone without sleep is 40 hours, and even then, I was barely hanging on.
Nothing beats that feeling when you wake up, realize it’s 8 AM on a Sunday, and decide to just lounge around until 11. Man... that’s the life.

Peter Hernandez53 said:I usually get about 6 hours of sleep. One time I slept for 10 hours straight and honestly, it felt pretty terrible.

Meanwhile, I could basically sleep 24 hours a day, as long as I get a quick thirty-minute break every 6 or 7 hours...

Modern neuroscience basically says that if you can squeeze in about 4 hours of sleep, your brain neurons have enough to get by. You just cycle through a few REM and non-REM stages, top off your ATP, and call it a day. Your body—you know, the muscles and stuff—needs closer to 8 hours, but honestly, who cares much about that? 🙂

I usually undersleep during the week, then I tend to overcompensate by crashing hard all weekend.

7-8

I just can't seem to catch any sleep during the day—it's practically impossible—but I've heard from a few people that it might actually be beneficial to squeeze in a quick hour-long nap... though, mind you, nothing longer than that, or you're doomed.

If I’m left alone, I can honestly go for about thirty hours straight, maybe just breaking for five minutes here and there to grab some water or use the restroom. 😕 🙂

I managed to do two of the absolute dumbest things possible today. First off, I decided to pull an all-nighter as part of my grand plan to reset my internal clock—you know how it goes. Second, I spent an hour and a half just lying in bed right before class started, fully aware that I only had about 45 minutes of sleep ahead of me. 👋 🙂

Oh, sure... why don't you just run straight to bed already! 😬

Personally, I tend to prefer getting about 9 or 10 hours of sleep a day—depending on the circumstances—but when I have to head into school, it’s simply impossible. On those mornings when I have early classes, I somehow only manage to get maybe 4 or 5 hours. 😬

If I get less than eight hours—I’m basically a zombie. I need my sleep, honestly... I love catching up on naps whenever I can. It sucks having to drag myself out of bed by 7:00 AM every morning! I guess I'm just counting down the days until the weekend so I can finally crash.
