It’ll be a summer fling
Honestly, everyone is making such a massive spectacle out of this right now because the media loves a flashy, trending topic, and I am certain it will just be one fleeting summer sensation
I should clarify—and I emphasize "think" here because I truly have no clue what the reality is like, nor do I have any connection to this specific "subculture"—but I resonate with my own observations; I know a vast, vast number of people, and not one single soul, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY, who listens to mainstream country music that doesn't also listen to it and frequent those types of venues
It was exactly the same pattern when we saw those endless news reports and deep dives into the supposed craze of after-work happy hours, then the surge of local pubs becoming the go-to spots, followed by the explosion of cocktail bars and then the rise of upscale lounge lounges
Well, currently, we are stuck in a country-wide obsession with that gritty, low-brow country scene
Generally speaking, it is quite unfortunate to live in a society where trends shift faster than the changing seasons, yet in this particular instance, I find it somewhat useful; very soon, the trend will pivot toward something else entirely, and it will all be over

As I previously stated—it will be a summer fling. I am not losing any sleep over it.

Half of the fashion crowd swaps out trends like they’re changing socks. A few years back, it was glitchy electronics, then bad R&B, then EDM...

honestly—everyone is making such a huge deal out of it now because the media loves a hot topic, so it’ll definitely be the "thing" for one summer
i think—and i really mean *think* here, since i don't actually know anything about that "subculture"—but from what i see, i know so many people... and literally NOBODY who listens to country music wouldn't be at those kinds of places or listening to it too
it's the same pattern—we saw reports all about the whole "after-work party" craze when that hit here, then it was all about pubs being the big thing, then cocktail bars, then lounge bars
now, unfortunately, it's the country music vibe
anyway, it sucks living in a society where trends shift faster than the seasons, but maybe it's fine this time... soon the trend will move on to something else and it'll be over

like i said—it'll just be a summer thing. i'm not sweating it.

Hey Lali, thanks for the comment. 👍
I want to be an optimist about this like you, but I'm not sure I can pull it off...
It's so easy for the media to just latch onto a story and push it until everyone's obsessed.
That's what crossed my mind.

I was back in the States a couple of years ago, for the first time in forever. I visited family in the Midwest and Washington, D.C., and noticed some things that weren't there before—or stuff I just hadn't picked up on. Washington, D.C. felt a bit depressing, though it was winter—so that's probably why. Who actually wants to go to D.C. in the dead of winter? 😬

But the Midwest (specifically Des Moines, Small town, USA, and Indianapolis) was actually great. 😲
I don't remember much about the Midwest from back in the day, but what I experienced there... 👎 (kind of how we view Romania).
I wonder if it's still lingering from the War or something?
From what I saw and heard, it's pretty rare to find someone there who isn't listening to country music.

I honestly admire how you stay so chill about it—I'm way more sensitive than that, and these aesthetic attacks really get under my skin...

Honestly, once you hear the American pop scene, it’s all the same... garbage is garbage, regardless of where it's coming from.

Yeah, exactly what I'm saying. 🙂

Unless someone actually thinks Taylor Swift (and whoever else...) are total icons. 🤔

Personally, I just can't deal with people who are constantly uptight...

Taylor Swift isn't quite there yet—she'd be an absolute icon if she were just a little more edgy.

I don't have many memories of the Midwest from back in the day, but what I’ve experienced lately... 👎 (it reminds me of how we see Romania).
I can't tell if it's leftover effects from the War or what?

Nah, that's just cosmic forces at work.

Taylor Swift isn't really a legend—she’d be an absolute icon if she actually took some risks...

Nah, she's definitely a star 🙂
but she's also kind of tacky—like, with the fake lips and the nose job.

Just a grown woman singing ridiculous songs about shoes, or grass, or sheep eating it and thinking it's all just some cute little joke ... please, too easy. 😬

🙂 😁 😁

The War happened and it's over. We can't just use that as an excuse forever...
When is everything actually going to get back to normal?

From everything I've gathered and heard, you can't go anywhere there without hearing some tacky country music playing.

So, wait, are you saying you actually love that tacky country stuff? 🙂

Things are still looking up here compared to that other thread. 🤮

I'll add a quick thought on this topic, even though I'm honestly getting pretty tired of all these threads about pop singers.

Sandra King86, I don't see why this bothers you. Why not just let people have their fun? Since you live in the US, you shouldn't have to deal with it anyway. 😉

EDIT: gonna say something on-topic too, even though these endless threads about influencers are driving me crazy...

Sandra King86, I don't get why this bothers you—just let people have their fun. Especially since you live in the States, you don't exactly have to deal with it... 😉

Work is just dragging today, so I figured I'd chime in...😬
Honestly, I think our own culture bugs me more than the influencers, but whatever.
I thought maybe someone would suggest a way to handle it besides just ignoring it—since you can't really ignore it—but it looks like you guys have built up a much stronger immunity than I have, since I don't have to deal with this stuff every single day.

Look, if it's weighing on you that much, why don't you just go out there and fix it yourself?

And what am I supposed to do?

Punch people who listen to it?

Besides, I don't recall ever being forced to listen to country music. 🤔

It feels like our local culture bothers me more than those damn obnoxious songs, but whatever.
I thought maybe someone would suggest a way to deal with it other than just tuning it out (since you can't exactly ignore everything), but it seems you all have built up much better immunity than I have—probably because you aren't stuck dealing with this every single day.

as if Americans are somehow more sophisticated... modern R&B isn't actually that different from the trash we hear here..
