Bob Dylan handling both the vocals and the Guitar... it’s just one of those things that defines an era, I suppose, though you could argue for hours about whether he was actually playing or just letting the spirit move him through the strings... anyway, there he is.
There’s just something about the way David Gilmour approaches a Guitar that hits different... it isn't just about hitting the right notes, you know? It's that sense of space, that willingness to let a single, soaring phrase hang in the air until it practically becomes part of the atmosphere itself... most players are so busy trying to prove how many things they can do at once, but he understands that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just breathe through the strings... it's a kind of melodic patience that feels increasingly rare in a world that can't seem to stop rushing...
Jerry Garcia... just thinking about that man and his Guitar... how he could take a single note and stretch it out until it felt like it was part of the very air you were breathing... it’s hard to wrap your head around that kind of fluid, effortless magic, isn't it... some people play notes, but he played something much deeper, something that felt less like technical skill and more like a conversation with the universe itself... anyway, just a thought while I'm sitting here staring at the wall...
Phil Lesh on Bass... just thinking about that specific pocket he held, man... it was never just about playing the notes, it was about how he breathed through the instrument, creating this massive, swirling foundation that felt less like a rhythm section and more like a living, pulsing organism... you listen to those old recordings and you realize he wasn't just keeping time, he was sculpting the air around the rest of the band... it’s a heavy thing to wrap your head around, really...
Levon Helm... those Drums... man, there's just something about that steady, soulful pocket he held that you just don't hear anymore in modern sessions... it wasn't just keeping time, it was like he was breathing with the song...

I can't help but wonder how that would actually play out in the real world... just how the whole thing would function once the dust settles... 😁

Yeah, haha, no way that would actually work! I mean, Chino and Maynard already crushed it together on Passenger and they sounded incredibly, incredibly good, but I honestly can't picture those two massive egos sharing a mic for more than one track! 😘
