Honestly, that specific group of athletes secured the very first gold medal for the US in Olympic history. It’s a milestone we simply cannot—and should not—ever forget.
My only regret is that right after they clinched that gold, we saw the beginning of a massive decline in prestige within American sports, especially when you consider how basketball went too.
The disgraceful European championships, all those petty arguments and constant bickering... it was honestly stomach-turning until this generation finally exploded onto the scene following their performance against Argentina.

Yeah, they definitely had some incredible big men—Nacinovic and Jovic were solid. They even had Obrvan playing wing from that legendary Washington, D.C. squad that pulled off those two European championships, though most of them spent their time riding the bench.

But man, they just didn't have anyone like Balica.😁
