Not like I missed much. I was actually sitting on a terrace in San Diego sipping coffee this past Thursday. 😬

...and seriously, stop being such a nitpicker 😛

My bad, this happens whenever I get into that "cranky old lady" headspace... 😬 🙂 I knew it was pointless, but honestly, that comeback just felt too good not to take... 😳 Whatever, let's move on. 😘

Another atrocious, unfinished mess of a Serie A match has just served as yet another reminder of why I prefer the Premier League:

My top 10 favorite English footballers from the last decade or so:

1 Shearer 🙏 🙏 🙏
2 Ince
3 McManaman
4 Fowler
5 Sheringham
6 Pearce
7 Terry
8 Gerrard
9 Carragher
10 Giggs (he's Welsh, but whatever)

Here’s the #1 weirdest image that’s been stuck in my head for a week straight. Honestly, the thought isn't even new—it popped up back when this song was actually on the radio, but it just hit me again after hearing that absolute disaster of a track by Boris Novković on the airwaves earlier today.

The scene is called "Wolves at Peace, Alone."
Picture a Forester, miles away from civilization and especially far from people. It's a whole pack of Wolves hanging out together. There's an old Wolf with a bum back paw, sitting in a beat-up yellow plastic bucket. Then there's the Mom Wolf wearing reading glasses on her snout, knitting these colorful, bluish-gray sweaters for the pups, while the little wolf cubs are busy stacking LEGO bricks and occasionally getting into these tiny, quiet arguments over where the next piece goes. In the middle of a clearing, right among them, there's a small campfire going—it's not even freezing out yet. The early evening stars are just starting to peek through the pale eastern sky. Everything is dead quiet, except for the sound of the mother wolf humming some melancholy tune under her breath, interrupted only by the occasional muffled bickering from the juniors over their LEGO builds.

So, yeah.
🤔 I might actually have to post this on my blog...

Just bumping this thread back up to the top.

The perfect way to kick off the weekend.

1. When you have to head out at 5:00 AM in sub-zero temperatures to the Coca-Cola plant to interview staff,
2. and your digital recorder freezes solid on you.
3. So, naturally, you end up stuffing it down your pants just to thaw it out.
4. The only upside? You get to imagine yourself as a news editor writing an obituary. ma**r mu Je**m

Is there a warranty on it? Honestly, I’m totally over these portable players—they drive me insane. Just gave up on them entirely.

vividcanyon2 said:Do you have a warranty? I completely lost faith in my old Discman days. I eventually just gave up on the whole concept.

I do have a warranty, though this is actually my second unit in just one month. The first one arrived dead on arrival, and while the second one worked briefly, the door mechanism was faulty and now it has died completely. Isn't that just great?😠

vividcanyon2 said:Yes, that actually reminds me quite a bit of the issues I used to have with my old Discman. 🙂

I have nothing to add at this moment.
There are two primary issues that plague the portable CD player experience. First, we have to address the instability of the hardware itself. It’s an incredibly finicky device. You can be walking perfectly fine on a sidewalk in Chicago, and suddenly the music skips because you took one step too heavy. It feels like the technology was designed for people who live in vacuum chambers rather than actual humans moving through the world. Second, there is the sheer fragility of the media. A single fingerprint or a microscopic scratch on a disc—something most people wouldn't even notice if they weren't looking for it—and the entire playback session is ruined. It requires a level of meticulous maintenance that just isn't practical for daily use.
I've still got these headphones from 1986—they were actually pulled right off the first Walkman I ever owned.
The way they constantly "lose their cool" and start jamming through every random song they can find is honestly quite taxing.

The absolute worst thing about owning a Discman:

1. I don't actually have one...

My top 5 Discman nightmares:

1. It refused to load the CD—I literally had to eject and re-insert it over and over until the damn thing finally recognized it. 😠
2. Total "No Disc" errors. If I turned it off after listening and tried to power it back up five minutes later, it just acted like there was nothing in the tray. 🙂
3. The spinning issue. Once it starts, it won't stop—not by any means—until I manually pop the lid open to kill the motor. 🙂
4. Glitchy MP3 playback where it would cut a song halfway through and skip straight to the next one. 🙂
5. The "anti-skip" feature? Yeah, right. A total joke. 🙄

I dragged it to the repair shop, but they told me it was a lost cause and just offered me some cheap, fifty-cent replacement instead.

So, here’s my top 3 list of the absolute worst offenders from that pile of junk:

1. That pathetic anti-skip tech—especially when you're driving down a bumpy backroad in rural Pennsylvania. 🙄 Honestly, I am never driving those roads again. NEVER!!!!!!!!!
2. The skip issue. I put it on a flat surface and the whole time it just kept getting stuck on "I Dig You." Even if I forced it to play something else, it would play two tracks and then loop right back to "I Dig You." I hit play and it plays "I Dig You" a hundred times in a row. Screw this!!!!! 🙂
3. Just plain refusing to read CDs.

In the end, my friends just gave me an MP3 player for my birthday. 😁 🎉 😘

I just wanted to ask... what kind of garbage portable CD players are you guys actually buying if you're dealing with these kinds of issues? 🙂

@gentlepuma20: Look, when I’ve got ten different albums on my iPod and I want to hear them all at once—I just hit shuffle and let it rip 😁

@Sean Lee7: Got a portable CD player for my birthday. Man, my sister had no clue how much this thing would suck 😢

My sister is the best though 😍 😍
