A directive? I didn't realize I had special privileges on this forum. 😬

Look, I already said I was joking. 🙂

So you thought Henry Rollins' career was headed for a downward spiral? Is that what you really believed?
Alright, following "Weight," I’m on board.

Henry is basically driving Zelig around.
Rollins Band (1986 - 1994) — absolute perfection. No flaws here.

Alex Rogers91, they’re all hits, but unfortunately the only true masterpiece is "All Kindsa Girls," mostly because Lou Reed once gave it a nod (and he never wrote anything remotely that good)...

Alex Scott22, you really ought to avoid Vanian's stuff from that era at all costs, but damn, music is king. My Elois! 🙂

My Top 3 grindcore CDs:

3. Nasum "human 2.0"
2. Terrorizer "World Downfall"
1. Napalm Death Scum + Enslavement to Obliteration

I'm voting for Scum.

"feta" is better, but "Scum" is more significant, original, and charming... That's why I swapped out the word "album" for "CD" and included the "feta" release with the full "Scum" as a bonus. 😳

Kevin Chavez3 said:Basically, you're just talking nonsense today. 999 are kings of the universe? Glass is just some naked kid? The Smiths are conditionally hiccuping? Siouxsie and Joy Division are boring? Are you intentionally hitting every single sacred cow just to stir the pot, stormyviper11? You punk, no way! 😬

Nah, it's actually worse: I mean all of this seriously. 😬
The only thing you took out of context was the bit about Glass; I said they were decent compared to Sexe and early SCH, not that they're legendary in general...
To me, they're a solid band, but nothing mind-blowing. Maybe it's just a generational gap, or maybe I just haven't seen them live...

And I don't agree with Alex Scott22's nominations either, because personally, I might even think Billy Idol and Tina Turner are slightly better solo than in their main bands—mostly because those original bands never really did much for me anyway.

But seriously, what's wrong with 999? For me, along with Sham 69 and The Mekons, they’re probably part of the holy trinity of bands that Dinko first introduced me to...

So, you're essentially starting a rival group to the weddings? 😬

Sure, 999 has a handful of hits, but calling them legendary? Not quite. But hey, everyone’s got their own version of Steve McQueen... 🙂

And let's not even get started on Shamu. 😁

Since we're already being accused of fueling the fire in that other thread, I might as well mention that exactly three years ago today, Joe Strummer passed away. So, let it all go to hell...

Daniel Bailey7 said:So, what—are you trying to start a rivalry with those wedding planners? 😬

Oh, heavens no... For a venture like that, I’m going to need a design student, a marketing major from the business school, and perhaps a jazz student from a conservatory in Vienna...😬

The Smiths and The Sisters of Mercy hover somewhere between "passable" and "occasionally interesting."

...look, there are certain things and people in this world you just don't mess with... Ben & Jerry's ice cream... Depeche Mode posters (even if DM reminds some people of a CVS aisle)... Piet Mondrian and everything he touched... Philip Seymour Hoffman 😍 ...Thomas Hobbes (he's NOT a totalitarian! 🙂 )... Oliver Neuville—even when he’s at his absolute worst (which, let's face it, makes him the best of the worst right now—but still 😍 )... the duo of Harmony Korine + Ewen Bremner (honestly, one of the most beautiful things on the planet 😍)... Nenad Zakosek 🙂 ...

...and then there's The Smiths—no matter what anyone says, they're always beautiful. 😍

🙂

It’s already been three years since Joe Strummer passed😢
999 is the gold standard🙂
The Smiths just don't hit the same anymore🙂
Why "glass"? I’d ask why Philip chose that specific vibe😬
Generation X doesn't really belong to any one genre🙂

Honestly, I’m pretty happy with everything except for that Joe Strummer 999 emergency kit... I mean, even if most of the rest of it feels like total junk, that specific piece is 🙂

Narantxa said:I honestly only dig 911... even if they've got some trash left in their catalog, that one track is 🙂

Eminem... I totally get why you and her would hate them... When I first heard them about 12 or 13 years back, it was like a total epiphany. I just stood there, stunned by this sudden wave of clarity, mouth wide open, thinking: Queen! Honestly, out of everything from that era, I think 911 is the one band that actually leans into that raw Queen sound (even though you can definitely hear influences from bands like The Clash or Police in there too).

John Doe said:Right now, one of the biggest hype cycles on this forum seems to be folk-rock... but when you grew up in an American environment that was practically saturated with folk-rock, you just can't stomach it—not even as a joke. For a kid like me, those were massive traumas; you’d get beaten up or treated with pure contempt by the folk-rock crowd or similar groups just because, say, you happened to be wearing a black t-shirt with a Ramones logo, haha, tell me that isn't the truth. 🙂 Or you were just bombarded daily through the radio and TV with that specific brand of speech... honestly, it was pathetic.

John Doe 👍
Exactly... the folk-rock crowd mostly took beatings from us guys in The Jam shirts and whatnot... 😉 Did you just not hang out enough with our "triple-barreled last name" buddies...? 🙂
Anyone who hasn't endured the torture of the local SWAT teams or the adequate misery of folk-rock, newly composed garbage, and similar idiocies can just stay a huge loser. Is that clear? 🙂 :2up: 🙂
What kind of democracy is this, what kind of nonsense... 😬

If you haven't survived the absolute grind of heavy metal or been stuck listening to that bottom-of-the-barrel, cookie-cutter folk rock, you're basically clueless. Get it? 🙂 :2up: 🙂
Forget democracy, forget all that nonsense... 😬

Preach! It’s nothing like that watered-down, soft stuff.😬
