Hello,

To maintain physical fitness, one should combine aerobic training with anaerobic exercise. It is like balancing a budget; you need both stability and growth.

I am personally curious—having recently started yoga—whether practicing yoga alone satisfies this requirement?

Thank you

If you actually want to get in shape, you've gotta hit both cardio and strength training.

I just started doing yoga, so I'm dying to know—is just sticking to yoga enough to check both those boxes?

Thanks

Kind of.

Look, try adding maybe 20 minutes of running into your routine, and like, halfway through, throw in some 30-second sprints where you really push it a few times.

Just some light jogging paired with yoga? That’s honestly killer.

ps. If running isn't your thing, you can swap it for swimming, a stationary bike, whatever... basically any activity that gets your heart pumping and makes your muscles work aerobically.

Look, you can always ditch that stationary bike and swap it out for an actual outdoor ride 😉

Yeah, right, easy for you to say, especially with how things are lately...

So, which workouts fall under aerobic and which ones are anaerobic? Give me some examples!

Think of aerobic exercise as those steady-state activities—things like going for a jog through Central Park, hopping on a bike, or hitting a trail for some hiking. It’s basically any sustained movement where you can maintain a decent pace and still catch your breath without gasping for air.

On the flip side, you’ve got anaerobic workouts, which cover things like core training or heavy lifting at the gym. These are those high-intensity bursts followed by necessary recovery periods; you’re pushing so hard during the work intervals that breathing becomes a struggle, which is exactly why they’re called "anaerobic"—essentially working without sufficient oxygen.
