Yeah, well, Pokémon was huge too. I honestly don't get how DBZ reached this level of obsession... maybe it's just built on the same kind of endless drama you see in those Mexican soap operas.

I think the original series is actually great, truly 🙏, but DBZ? It’s just a total slog for me.

I actually just sat through three episodes back-to-back—they felt like one cohesive unit—only for the third one to descend into such absolute absurdity that the whole thing stops making any sense at all... oh my God.

I mean, personally, I think Vegeta is just 😍
top-tier when it comes to the art style.
But honestly? Pokémon is total trash.

Honestly, Dragon Ball Z is just a prime example of mediocre animation and character design. The quality is all over the place from one scene to the next... there are moments where it looks like they barely finished the job, or where half the frame isn't even colored in properly. 😂

And don't even get me started on the fact that DBZ didn't even start airing until the late 80s—'89, if we're being specific—which was already a time when plenty of high-quality anime were already out there.

If you actually want to see decent art, check out:

Cowboy Bebop, Angel Sanctuary, FLCL, Golden Boy, Macross, Read or Die, Rurouni Kenshin, Gunbuster, Escaflowne, Ranma ½, Urusei Yatsura, and other big titles.

Some of those actually predate DBZ by quite a bit. 😉

Honestly, Ranma ½ is just kind of dragging for me.
I mean, don't get me wrong, the plot itself is actually pretty interesting and all that...
it's just... I don't know, it's not really hitting the mark.
And besides, I never said every single episode was top-tier animation, right?

Hellsing is alright, and I’d say Golden Boy is pretty solid too...

Then there's Sailor Moon—that was my absolute favorite growing up! Honestly, I was completely obsessed with it back in the day.

Ecchi is actually pretty decent—or if I want to be more precise, there are some genuinely good Ecchi series out there. Plus, a huge chunk of "other" shows contain varying degrees of Ecchi elements, whether it's baked into the humor or just straight-up fan service. At the end of the day, sex sells. 😁 😉

What I really dig is the kind of Ecchi humor you see in Dragon Ball (specifically the first one) or Golden Boy. 🙏 Or take Ebich – The Housekeeping Hamster, where half of... okay, the whole 😁... series is pure Ecchi, but it's used in fairly realistic, maybe even somewhat smart situations. Even then, there's always that thin line between actual good humor 👍 and just being plain tasteless. 👎

Look... Robotech definitely counts as anime. Here’s how it actually works.

American companies bought up the rights to Macross, Southern Cross, and some other series I can't quite recall right now. 😉

Then they basically chopped up pieces from three different shows, stitched them together into one long series, slapped their own English dub on it, and completely rewrote the plot.

So, if you want the truth, Robotech is really just Macross, Southern Cross, and that third one mashed into one giant show. 😁

I mean, Ichi is basically a killer who manages to reach climax while he's committing these murders, so if we're being honest... it's practically porn. :P

But then you look at the actual movie scenes—stabbing people in the head with needles from a distance, limbs getting hacked off, just an overwhelming amount of BLOOD!!
