AJ said:Honestly, who cares about any of that? The real tragedy here is that someone actually stole Slash's hat. 😢 😢 I mean, what is he even supposed to do now... just walk around without his signature look? It's devastating...

Absolute chaos... 🙂

Franz Ferdinand is actually perfect for listening to on a Discman while riding the subway—especially when you’re only two stops away and you know damn well the batteries are about to die in like five minutes... I love them, though. They aren't exactly mainstream, and they're kind of hard to pin down. I haven't quite figured out their whole vibe yet... maybe they're pulling some influence from the Beatles?? What do you think?

Frank Harrigan said:Duh, obviously there's a difference. The only guy here who spoke out against FF—while casually dropping names like U2, Oasis, or Queen—is basically the last person you could call an indie snob. You might as well have said he was a heavy metal snob, so sure, let's just say our definitions of "the same thing" vary.

just for you;
"wiredfalcon2's definition of an indie snob"

- carbon-based, mostly 70% water, usually sporting some non-committal hairstyle, rarely bald, and convinced that anything worth listening to happened decades ago or involves a band that sold fewer than 62 albums—or, in the absolute worst-case scenario, Nirvana. 😁 They love acting all high-and-mighty and well-versed in everything, especially that niche, low-selling scene where they pull out obscure band names just to mask their own frustrations about not fitting into some imaginary mainstream. Then this specimen runs away from reality without ever actually facing it, while the non-indie, non-snobs are out there just living their lives, feeling the heat, and enjoying themselves.
* half the time, indie snobs and owners of failed garage bands can barely play their instruments.

🙂

- A carbon-based lifeform made up of about 70% water, usually sporting non-committal hairstyles (rarely bald), who genuinely believes the only good music is what was underground decades ago or anything that hasn't sold more than 62 albums—or, in the absolute worst-case scenario, Nirvana. 😁 They love acting all high-brow and pretending they’re experts on every obscure, low-selling niche scene, dropping massive band names just to mask their own frustrations at not fitting into some imaginary mainstream. Then, this specimen will desperately run away from that very mainstream without ever actually looking at the situation objectively, while the non-indie, non-snob crowd is busy stretching out and dancing their hearts out to this ffffire. And making out.
* Indie snobs and owners of failed bands often only half-know how to play their instruments.

🙂
😁

So, what do you call someone who has listened to a massive amount of music over the years, to the point where today's various revivals just sound silly and mostly boring? Exceptions aside, of course.
I haven't even properly listened to Franz Ferdinand—just a few tracks and that's it—but even then, I felt like I'd always rather listen to something else. On the other hand, Bloc Party is actually pretty fun.
And I don't really need music to make out; it mostly just distracts me. I hardly ever dance either—mostly because I don't go out much (except maybe to a local pub in downtown Chicago)—and when I did know how to "dance" back when I was younger, it was usually awkwardly to "Waiting Room" and stuff like that. Man, I need a drink... I was actually dancing in my room the other day to Go! Team...

It doesn't matter how much you've heard about it; what matters is how you deal with it.
🙂

You could always just dance through it... wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

The type of people who think God is trash and EKV is everything, or those who claim Joy Division is a masterpiece while calling New Order total garbage... you can spot them a mile away. 😁
Of course, they'll inevitably start clinging to that "indie" label now. 🙄

And what am I supposed to do about it? I'm the guy who thinks God is better than EKV and prefers New Order over Joy Division. What does that make me? Some kind of indie snob? A disco freak? Or just some asshole?

🤣 👍

For me, things start getting a bit boring after two specific things happen. 😢

Otherwise, though, "indie" basically just refers to anything that isn't signed to a major label. 😁

wiredfalcon2, look, Franz Ferdinand is absolute perfection for me. It’s wild how much better that album gets the more I obsess over it. Also, like someone mentioned earlier, The Go! Team is phenomenal—you seriously need to give them a shot. They're just pure, chaotic fun. 🙂

Bloc Party isn't half bad either...

whatever man... 😁

but you don't need to trash everything else just because of that. especially when the big argument is always some weak crap like "they're too mainstream," "they sold out," or "they only have three riffs."

I honestly can’t help myself—I have to say that Franz Ferdinand are nothing but snobby, fake frauds🙂 😁
It’s wild how much the media can inflate a band that doesn't even deserve half the attention they get.
Groups like Hot Hot Heat, Liars, Rapture, Walkmen, or Radiohead are miles ahead of them—but they don't get the spotlight because these arrogant little posers from Scotland are being blasted on every single fucking station constanty.😠 😁
I mostly just tear into them because they're total posers, exactly like Mono (from Japan).🙂

I know it isn't exactly classy to quote myself—but here is what I wrote to Banderas a while back...

The Grammys exist for one reason—to stroke the egos of specific industry lobbies and drive up sales for hand-picked products. That's it. Nothing else.

Here’s what Scott McCloud—lead singer and guitarist for GVSB—is claiming in today's edition of the New York Post. He's an insider, so take it seriously. 😉

We used to attend award shows—the Grammys and all that nonsense. Let’s be honest: they’re all essentially the same brand of garbage. There’s a tiny bit of entertainment involved, but only if you’re willing to suffer through it; otherwise, it’s just mind-numbingly dull. It's nothing more than a glorified excuse for the music industry to pat itself on the back and flaunt its scale. Everyone sits there staring at one another, exchanging hollow compliments and fake smiles—but underneath the surface, they’re really just tallying up who moved the most units.

So now you’re feeling all proud because Goldman Sachs happens to agree with you? Seriously, I thought they lived for the Grammy Awards 😁
Most underground bands who haven't even been sniffed by those awards probably feel the exact same way, which isn't exactly a shocker...
It’s likely the same sentiment in film circles regarding the Oscar, but No man's land managed to snag one. Screw any country that doesn't have an Oscar 😁
