R.E.M. in Washington, D.C.!?

So, I caught some kind of advertisement on Open this morning, though it felt more like a plug for some news outlet, which makes me wonder about the reliability of the whole thing. They’re claiming R.E.M. is playing in NYC on January 19th. Is it actually going to be a disaster if they actually follow through with the concert? 😠 I’ve never seen them live myself. How about you? Any thoughts?

Saw them in Padua last year—they’re incredible... you can tell they actually enjoy playing together, and Steve just never stops, creating such a great vibe... honestly, they blew Peppers out of the water by ten classes. Even if you aren't a huge fan, they're definitely worth seeing

R.E.M. in NYC!?

It’s finally happening.

I remember seeing them back in Copper—maybe in '99 or 2000... honestly, that show was just incredible. Even compared to when I saw the Peppers at the Airport Festival this past summer, I think R.E.M. felt much more authentic, you know? Much more sincere.

As long as they actually make it here, there is absolutely no way I'm missing out.

I think the radio ad for that Copper gig went something like: --- and then there's R.E.M....

That’s a realistic number if you ask me.

It’s hard to imagine it being any lower. I have a decent idea of what these things go for, especially when they’re bringing their own full production setup.

It feels like people are comparing them based on their status as musical giants rather than actually looking at the genre they play...
For instance, if we consider that the Peppers are a bigger draw and tend to spark more massive hype—which I get—I think I’d much rather catch three shows by R. E. M. than sit through another RHCP set. Don't get me wrong, I love them as a band, but honestly, their live performances have always left me feeling a bit underwhelmed.

On the other hand, seeing R. E. M. live just solidified my belief that they are an absolutely top-tier band.

Of course, we're all just waiting to see how the new album turns out... though the single is already playing everywhere.

Back in '99, I caught them in Budapest - $77, grabbed the ticket right in NYC
2003 in Munich - maybe 50 bucks or so, just snagged it online

For this show in NYC, the tickets are definitely gonna be $100, if not way more.

Warsaw, 2003 - $40.

The day of the show, $57, but they only put 7,000 tickets up for grabs. By an hour before the set started, prices hit a ridiculous $200. Scalpers were basically snatching tickets from people waiting in line for $67, then flipping them for $400 or $600. 😎 😁 - and people (like those Lithuanians, for example) were buying them like crazy.

Brilliant concert. Even though I’m not even a huge fan, for that kind of money (I'm talking $40), I probably would've gone to see HIM too. 😁

Honestly, no matter what they charge, I'm paying it this time.
I originally thought about catching them at Copernicus about four or five years ago, but it didn't happen. 😢
Last year, I had plans to see them in Padua, but that fell through too. 🙂
If they actually make it to NYC, I’ll be there, regardless of the price tag. 🙂

If they cancel this show as well, I might just give up; this would be my third attempt at seeing R.E.M. live. 😁

He almost played at the Arena back in December last year—well, Lani—though I honestly have no idea how they even let him perform then (not because of the cold, of course).
