I guess I’ll suddenly become a total loser in your eyes now that you've figured me out, right? How shallow...

I don't see how the fact that someone's political leanings—and by extension, the person holding them—could disappoint me says anything about my own shallowness.

At the end of the day, any positive assumption I had about you was built on equally "shallow" foundations. Specifically, what you've written here on Reddit. We don't know each other in real life, and who knows, maybe we wouldn't even like each other in person...

And you really think everything in life is just black or white...

No, but that isn't an answer to anything. I'm talking about basic things that differentiate "right" from "left" options.
I don't see a problem with my political views or yours. You see one, so it's on you to deal with it, not me.👋 [/B]

I don't see a problem either; I'm just expressing my own personal disappointment.

Only one thing isn't clicking for me: when you listen to the bands you listen to (especially with Mark E. Smith as your avatar), do you think the people in the songs are talking nonsense, or do you just not pay attention to the lyrics? Because from where I'm sitting, it seems like you think indie music is just crawling with "bigoted left-wing liberals."

P.S. And yeah, I'll admit, it bugs me extra because your example goes against my personal theory that people who listen to alternative music don't vote Republican. 🙂 I've always thought it made sense that the Right is voted for by people who either don't use their brains (so they can't vote any smarter), have some private interest, or are just types of people I wouldn't want as neighbors.

Look, I can certainly sympathize with socialism—liberalism especially—but in practice, leftism has turned out to be pretty terrible. As someone with my own convictions, I believe I have every right to feel that certain "traditional" values are worth holding onto. I won't even get into my views on capitalism versus socialism; I think anyone with half a brain—and by that, I mean anyone who is educated and has actual ambitions in a professional, institutional sense—can see how flawed socialism is, not to mention its more extreme versions...

That said, I truly don't care about someone's political or ideological leanings. To me, that's such a trivial and silly category during socialization that it never poses an obstacle to meeting new people or building friendships.

People, I have to admit—what’s unfolding right now has genuinely blindsided me... The Department of Culture (meaning the Republican Party) will likely propose an amendment to the draft legislation intended to establish the council for youth and new media culture (that’s our proposed name, though they'll probably butcher it during the process, but the function remains perfectly clear)...
hahaha they're absolutely terrified...:2up: :2up: :2up:

p.s. I still can't quite wrap my head around the fact that they are actually intimidated by us... here's another one for them: :2up:

Let's move the whole capitalism vs. socialism debate over to the Politics subreddit. All I'll say is both systems suck. And honestly? I really hope neither current capitalism nor any version of socialism we've seen before is actually the smartest way for humanity to organize itself.

By the way, what does leftism actually look like in practice? Are we talking Albania or Sweden?

Ha, listen to you talking about friendships and connections. I don't see how political leaning is any different from any other personality trait. In fact, it's usually a pretty solid indicator of how someone feels about a massive range of issues—both big and small.

P.S. plenty of highly educated, smart people thought socialism was the answer. Even now, when the failures of certain versions are common knowledge, they still think it's a solid foundation for a future society, or at least some kind of constructive critique of the status quo. (I bet Mark E. Smith is one of them.) That's all. 👋

It’s worth noting that Teo Celakoski—the founder and director of Mame—has been the one driving, steering, and coordinating this entire situation over the last two days. The man played a masterclass political game—executing a precise strategy without compromising himself or letting any political party get dragged into the fray...
bravo Teo 😎

Back again... just got to work, so I hopped straight onto Reddit.😁
Anyway, things are really heating up in here. Maybe I'm just being slow, but why is there this assumption that every single Republican is some narrow-minded, racist, uneducated, intolerant jerk? Who decided all that was true?😕 I am NOT like that!!! SERIOUSLY!! It’s just like someone smart mentioned a few posts ago—I think it’s important to nurture certain traditional values (even if I don't personally subscribe to them), but to me, they at least seem to have a backbone. That's it. I have friends all over the world; my first boyfriend was Black, and one of my best friends is a huge supporter of the Democratic Party, so when we’re grabbing drinks on the coast, we just joke around about political pundits in 😁 and we have a great time!!! Am I some kind of weirdo then?😕

So, am I some kind of weirdo then?😕

Thirteen years of pure hell, sorry, but you'll have to convince me otherwise. 🙄
Maybe you had a fine time living through the era of the Republican Party, but I certainly didn't.
Man, thirteen years of looting and destroying people's lives.
Closing down clubs, those various attempts to shut down local radio stations...
Thirteen years ago, that same Republican Party was out there spreading nothing but hate.
Sorry, lady, but when it comes to people who are voting for them again, I just can't
have anything nice to say.

I could honestly say the exact same thing about the endless years of hell under socialism and communism. I truly don't get people who can actually bring themselves to vote for those ideologies. Seriously, if things were as bad as some people claim, it would be a freaking miracle we aren't all living in concentration camps, brainwashed and walking around with the Republican Party tattooed on our foreheads, bowing down to religious icons at noon and blasting country anthems every single day. Hello? Look, everyone is entitled to their own political stance, but accusing hundreds of thousands of people of being criminals, fanatics, or idiots just because they support a party you happen to dislike is going a bit too far... It would probably offend you most of all if I called you "right-wing," wouldn't it? In this country, apparently, the ultimate insult is simply labeling someone as a member of a specific political party!😕
But hey, maybe the problem is just me...

I don't really have much to add here. Just sitting here with my coffee, watching the rain hit the window, thinking about how some things are better left unsaid. No comment from me.

Fine... whatever... I don't have this frantic, desperate need to convince everyone around me that they have to think exactly like I do. Honestly, life would be pretty boring if they did.

Well, like I said, I wish you'd actually explain why you even vote Republican. You're educated, you're tolerant, and you don't even care about traditional values yourself... 👋

Hey coastalpanther43 👋
Why am I asking? That’s a complicated question that requires a specific kind of answer... this might sound a bit silly, but it’s just how I was raised. 😁
My old man is a staunch Republican, and he was one of the first to step up. While we were all hunkered down in shelters, he was out in the local neighborhoods keeping watch; he served on the front lines. And no, he never took a dime for it, nor would he ever ask for anything. He didn't fight because he wanted rewards—he did it while leaving three kids at home, including me, the oldest at 10 years old.
Aside from all the garbage that has drifted through the Republican Party (just like it has through the Democratic Party), there are actually good people in there too. I know it sounds stupidly simple, but look at it this way: I don't agree with the platform or the views of any single political party, but I suppose I found the most common ground with this group. So, yeah... that's the short version.
