The legends, the absolute best: 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Noreaga, Nas, Outkast, Jurassic 5, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Roots Manuva, Guru, Jazzmatazz, and obviously Wu-Tang Clan.

The trash, the bottom of the barrel: Jay-Z, Nelly, C-Wing, Ja Rule, P. Diddy, Ginuwine, and all those other hacks who don't have a clue.

Look, I'm not saying I'm out here defending Nelly, but what makes you think Snoop Dogg is any less of an idiot? Or that he's actually good in your eyes? They're both morons, honestly. It's just that Nelly sounds way more fun to me.

Snoop Dogg is a legend; the man was rapping with Dre while Nelly was busy picking his nose in the front row of a concert.
Snoop has seven albums under his belt and is packed with hits (if I recall correctly).
Nelly has two albums, right? And maybe a few hits... which are just commercial fluff.

Hmm... true... and I'll go even further... he even filmed two top-tier adult films.😁

...I don't listen to Snoop at all... he has a few good tracks and some style... that's about it. But comparing those two makes zero sense... one is an actual rapper... the other is just some washed-up, acne-ridden athlete from a wealthy family with absolutely no style.

For my homegrown favorites, I’ve always been all about Elemental, T.B.F., and Eminem—they just hit different! But when it comes to the legends from overseas? It’s gotta be 2Pac, KRS-One, Missy Elliott, Outkast, and The Roots.

Outkast and those rappers—man, you've got some interesting takes! You missed a few big names, but
50 Cent was easily the best and most listened-to newcomer ever.
Eminem is the greatest, most respected, and most legendary rapper of all time.
Nelly was also an incredible newcomer.
P. Diddy is damn good; without him, half these guys wouldn't even exist.
DMX is a straight-up legend; he's the first and only guy to drop two albums in one year that both hit #1 on the charts.

I'm definitely in agreement here...

For me, the heavy hitters have to be

Dr. Dre, obviously. Eminem isn't bad, per se, but he just gets under my skin sometimes. Then you've got Eva who I really dig, and Chingy is alright enough for me :-) As for Snoop... well, he's a total legend. So yeah, that's pretty much my list of the best.

My respect belongs solely to the legends of the old school: Run-DMC, Public Enemy, N.W.A., Ice-T, BDP, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Flash. Is anyone else tired of today's lineup? Most of these modern artists are nothing more than frauds, peddling a diluted, watered-down version of rap that serves as pure commercialism—nothing more than mainstream pop garbage.
I will concede that there are rare exceptions worth mentioning, such as Gang Starr, Freddie Fox, and D. People.
