Who are your all-time favorite vs. least favorite rappers?

I honestly don't get why some people have such an issue with DMX—to me, he’s a solid guy. You’ve got Outkast, Onyx, Tupac, and 50 Cent who are all great too, and even Nelly is alright—though in my book, he leans more toward being a singer than a rapper.

I remember. He dropped that single "I Got High"... an absolutely hilarious track that played constantly on the radio and TV back then. (And by the way, the music video was great.) That song had such a damn catchy tune that it still plays in my head... tana...na-na...na...na...

Later, I heard another one of his tracks called "Crazy Rap"... you wouldn't believe it, it’s comedy gold.

Then I actually went online to see what the deal was with him. Honestly, the guy has style. Even though he hasn't hit the mainstream lately, he's been at this his whole life. Most importantly, he uses actual, solid humor in his work.

All things considered, compared to that crowd of unkempt newcomers (take > as a random example), this guy is grounded, the beats are smooth, and I dig it. Just my two cents.

Back when I used to listen to rap, I’d have told you straight up: the absolute worst were 50 Cent, Nelly, Bow Wow, Royce da 5'9'', and all those other commercial sellouts. On the flip side, the heavy hitters for me were Eminem (look, he’s commercial, sure, but his lyrics are incredible), 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Fredro Starr, Snoop Dogg, and Eve. I basically just listed everyone who went mainstream for me, man. Now that I've looked it up, I realize I probably missed about a billion other great rappers. But hey, what can you do? That's just how it goes.😁

It’s a bit touchy trying to label who’s the best rapper or who’s the worst. I guess because everything has shifted lately... most of what you see spinning on MTV or popping up everywhere is just music made for clubs, dancing, or some kind of bounce. You look at Nelly, P. Diddy... Eminem... people just do what they know will be accepted. They want to make money, and honestly, who can blame them? Just look at how they live... anyone would sell out if they could.

The lyrics don't really mean much anymore... but then again, who is actually aiming for that? If someone is actually trying, they’re probably listening to Aesop Rock or something similar. 😁When I say a rapper is good, it’s usually because I think they have a solid flow or their tracks are easy to put on repeat.

There are plenty of guys who are huge right now but get trashed just because it's trendy to hate on them. Take Eminem, for instance. The guy puts together great beats and has flow. But I guess it's just easier to say "Eminem is an idiot" and follow the crowd... 😁Like some of those local acts back home. Total hacks. To me, they can't write a lyric to save their lives. It's terrible. The rhymes are weak. But when they perform live, the guy knows his stuff; he gets the crowd on their feet without any trouble, he’s got energy, and he looks the part.😁 😉So, if someone asks, I might say he's okay.

Then there’s a massive amount of rappers who aren't known by the mainstream, yet they're way better. They don't have anything to do with the stuff playing on MTV.

Someone mentioned Guru... well, nobody can really claim he has a good flow. 😁He just doesn't, it's a fact. Sure, he's worked on that lately, haha, but for me, the guy is a legend. I love listening to him; he has a great voice and knows his business, but the flow just isn't there. Still, I bet someone will argue he's the best rapper ever. I guess everyone uses different categories to judge.

Someone said Jay-Z is nothing special... hehehe... I wouldn't agree with that. I won't get into "Crazy in Love" and all that, but the guy is one of those artists whose first album was better than everything else he did. Meanwhile, 50 Cent had a few obscure albums before he blew up once Eminem took him under his wing. That says enough.

Anyway, enough of this, I gotta go :P

The worst rappers? Pretty much everyone else out there.
