"Album" is a bit pricey ($13, even though it’s a record that pops up all the time; I actually owned two copies, paying $3.25 for each; I eventually swapped one out but kept the other), but a friend of mine is going to pick it up, along with "Greatest Hits, So Far" (which is a steal—$16).

Legends — Immoral, Burzum!!! Also Darkthrone (though I don't actually listen to them, still...) and Black Sabbath (not a fan of them either) 😎

What are you even getting at?? Like, which one do you actually consider legendary versus just cult status?

Would one of you be so kind as to define the distinction between a legendary band and a cult band? What exactly is the difference?

Actually, it just crossed my mind... 😕

Go back and read the whole thread from the start... My take? A "legend" is someone who made a massive impact on music as a whole—think The Beatles. But a "cult icon" is whoever hits home for you personally. It might be someone most people have never heard of, but those who do know them would go to war for them, just like people used to say...
there

I already laid out my take on what makes a band "cult" back on the first page. If we’re talking about a truly legendary group, we’re likely looking at a band that doesn't even exist outside of myth... Which brings us to the ultimate legends: Spinal Tap.

Yeah, true... personally, I think the most legendary solo act is Bobby D (Bob Dylan, obviously). He isn't a band, just one man who sits at the top of everyone's list of inspirations. He’s worked with everyone under the sun, and sooner or later, everybody either covered him or ended up copying his style. As for the most cult favorites... hmm... I'm torn between Aphex Twin (again, not a band...), Tricky, and Add N to(X)
(though maybe Boards of Canada or Frank Zappa too... I don't know)

Queen immediately comes to mind for me. They’re legendary, and honestly, pretty iconic. Every time my buddy has a few drinks, he starts rambling about seeing them live—says it was one of the best moments of his life. To me, a real legend isn't someone like Metallica, who MTV seems to play every thirty minutes anyway.

Man, Tibor, this guy's got vision. Seriously. Give it twenty years and Dream Theater will be the absolute legends, while Led Zeppelin will be the ultimate cult band. 😉 🙂
