...honestly, does anyone actually find value in listening to ten-minute tracks? It feels unnecessary when you can fit everything perfectly into just 3 minutes. Take the Ramones, for example—none of their songs ever went past the 3 or 4-minute mark (unless I'm misremembering). And they were legends. So, what's the point?

Of course it does. But if a track runs longer than five minutes, it feels like it needs some kind of loop just to stay interesting, which gets boring fast. Anyway, most albums I listen to aren't even 45 minutes long. Usually closer to 30.

Look... all the real emotion in metal... it just can't fit into 5 minutes... my favorites are always those 6, 7, or 8-minute epics... that's just how it is...

Metal is infinitely higher quality than punk... because every punk song clocks in at 3:45... prove me wrong 😁

Don't even bother trying to read all that above... it's the song Dracula by Iced Earth - thing lasts 6 min... go ahead, try cramming that into 3 minutes without making it sound like RAP or hip hop or whatever...!

ABSOLUTELY WRONG! Where on earth are you getting this idea that it "has" to happen? Look, take Dream Theater, for example—and yeah, I’ll admit it, I’m a bit of a music snob, so what? 🙂 ) They have a ton of tracks that run 7 or even 10 minutes long, and almost none of them sound the same from start to finish. Maybe they'll hit a chorus a couple of times here and there, but that's about it. Honestly, most songs that are only 5 minutes long actually have way more repetitive choruses. You really need to listen to a lot more music before making claims like that.

(Dream Theater isn't an exception)

You’re missing the point. Most of the heavy hitters from Metallica—and honestly, most great metal bands—tend to clock in around the 10-minute mark.
Give Orion a listen.
Like Kenneth Edwards3 said, you can't squeeze all that emotion into a 5-minute track.
As for repetition, there's such a thing as a guitar solo; usually, you don't even notice the repetition in most songs.
Take master of Puppets, for example. It runs about 8 and a half minutes, and if you ask me, it's one of the greatest metal tracks ever written. Hell, that entire album is probably the best metal record out there. Most of the tracks on it sit right around the 8-minute mark.

Whatever... I'm just not into metal. I have this weird, inexplicable aversion to the whole genre. Plus, those solos drive me crazy because you can't actually sing along to them.

But Orion is an instrumental... there isn't much to say about lyrics... BUT IT IS THE BEST DAMN THING EVER CREATED!! IN ALL OF TIME!! THAT BASS SOLO IS JUST UNREAL!!!

Punk messages usually boil down to "fuck the system," "fuck everyone else," "punk lives on"... I could write lyrics like that myself... if I did, they'd look exactly like every other generic song out there... but I WON'T bother arguing because, frankly, punk just isn't my thing...

Even in metal, some stuff just doesn't stick—but those tracks are usually ultra-fast blasts meant for burning off energy rather than sitting down to hunt for perfection. Look, I'm definitely more into the complex stuff, the songs with actual structure and layers, but hey... sometimes you just need a quick hit of speed

The best tracks always run about 7 to 10 minutes...
