silentcobra6 said:So, who actually counts as a good blues guitarist in your book? Which players do you actually respect? I’m genuinely curious who serves as a benchmark for someone who doesn't value SRV.😲

I was actually about to ask him the exact same thing...

He’s still a star, regardless... πŸ™„ I suppose he has passed away as well...
Personally, I find myself leaning more toward Otis Redding. Vaughan feels a bit too much like a pop songwriter for my taste. At least, that's how it lands with me. Unless, of course, I've got my facts mixed up. πŸ˜•

Personally, I prefer Otis Redding. Vaughan feels a bit too commercial for me. At least that's how it hits me. Unless I'm just missing something. πŸ˜•

SRV died in a helicopter crash back in 1990.

Stevie is in a league of his ownβ€”that perfect blend of raw, gritty Texas boogie energy and pure blues soul.

No matter how many times I listen to Little Wing, I find myself getting lost somewhere right in the middle of the track every single time....

The only thing that even comes close to that song is Remembering Stevie, the instrumental tribute dedicated to him by Buddy Guy.

Stevie is just a total "sweetheart," as they'd say over in the Netherlands!

Personally, I’m more of an Otis Redding guy. Vaughan feels a little too commercial for me. At least that's my take. Unless I've got it wrong. πŸ˜•

πŸ˜‚I love Otis Redding too, but man, you are completely missing the point! 😁

SRV is definitely one of the greatest blues musicians,
who unfortunately left us far too soon.

Someone mentioned he died in a helicopter crashβ€”why wasn't it a plane crash involving Eric Clapton instead?

All in all, it's a real shame.

I recently picked up a DVD, Live at Austin, Texas,

it’s such an unusual concertβ€”just three guys on stage and maybe 20 people in the crowd
when the show kicks off....
It sounds incredible, but the whole vibe is just so surreal...

To make sure some folks on this forum don't walk away thinking I'm the only one who thinks he was a miracle worker, here's what some other legendary blues guitarists actually had to say:

Stevie had countless ways of proving he didn't just have raw talent, but a genuine soul for the blues. His technique was solid, and his hands knew exactly what to do. The way he moved with the music? It looked effortless. - B.B. King

I always found it fascinating how he never once seemed lost. He never had to stop for air or pause to figure out his next move. The music just flowed right out of him. - Eric Clapton

One of the greatest blues musicians. - John Lee Hooker

In the opening remarks on the album Live at Carnegie Hall, John Hammond introduces Stevie as "one of the greatest blues musicians."

When an expert of his caliber says it, who are we to second guess him?

Nicholas Martin21 said:I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but I wanted to recommend a piece of work by
this American bluesman Chris Duarte
who famously said: "You can learn blues but you have to be born with a Texas feel"

The album is Texas Sugar/Strat Magikβ€”it sounds like Stevie but with a much heavier Jimi Hendrix influence and an incredible rhythm section,
unlike those mediocre guys in Double Trouble.

So, who says a cover can't beat the original? πŸ‘

He's good, sure, but he isn't anywhere near legends like SRV or Hendrix!
He's just okayβ€”middle of the road. Not even close.
And don't go disrespecting Double Trouble; they're major league, too. Honestly, compared to Duarte's band, they're way better!

Stevie Ray Vaughan is undeniably elite, and anyone with half a brain can see it; just watch this video to see his technique in action, though we all know exactly what he's really bringing to the table without having to say it explicitly.β˜•πŸ˜πŸ˜‰

An absolute legend... Little Wing (honestly better than the Jimi Hendrix version), Leave My Girl Alone, Pride and Joy, Texas Flood, You'll Be Mine... just pure genius.πŸ˜›

Maybe he's thinking of Otis Rush?

He’s definitely not any worse than SRV...
