Must be nice living in the big city...

...coming from one of the bigger cities. I find myself scrolling through your threads all the time, and honestly, it sucks when people start talking about what's playing in theaters....So, tell me, do you guys actually go see these movies on the big screen, or are you just waiting to stream them at home? I live in a small town, and we were lucky enough to get our local cinema totally renovated recently—and man, they did a killer job, I gotta admit—but what's the point if they're showing Ice Age this Saturday and Sunday? It kills me to watch stuff on my laptop, so I keep telling myself I'll just wait until it hits theaters, only to realize it'll probably be on Netflix before it even makes its way to the local screen. Then I just lose interest entirely....It’s frustrating, you know? And the worst part is when I finally do show up to the theater here, there are maybe twenty people in the audience because everyone already saw it elsewhere.....

Taylor Swift, I know exactly how you feel... I lived in Boise for a while (about three years ago) and when it came to movies, it was a total disaster... Honestly, even a magazine like Paramount Pictures wouldn't arrive on time, let alone actual films... And don't even get me started on the theater quality... 😲

Thank God my friends and I managed to hit it off with the guy selling tickets, so we at least got to catch movies for free (though they were mostly just stuff I'd already seen back in Washington, D.C.)...

That’s exactly it, it feels pretty stupid to me to open a discussion about a movie playing in the US when it won't be released here for quite a while. By the time the movie finally arrives, the original thread is buried or forgotten, and then someone else opens a new thread with the exact same name once it's out, making it look like I was just trying to brag about being one of the first to see it.

In New York City, you can actually catch a movie before its official opening night since they often release those preview tickets. It’s pretty convenient—you might end up seeing a film on a Friday that doesn't officially drop until Monday. Plus, the Sundance Film Festival is such a great chance to get a head start on films that won't even hit theaters for several months. I managed to catch "11-9-01" and "Spider" 🙂

In my opinion, New York City has the best selection when it comes to movies... 🙂 🙏

I’m totally on board with what Pale was saying earlier.
There really isn't much missing from the picture here.
Plus... we actually get those special screenings before a movie officially opens, and we even have test screenings that go out a few months before the big world premiere.
In fact, I remember going to see "The Sixth Sense" about two or three months before it actually hit theaters everywhere.

But honestly, Toronto is just wayyyy better. Like, out of any top ten list, eight of those movies were shot right there in Toronto. Even Chicago was filmed in T.O.
Back when I was living downtown, every single weekend we'd find some notice taped to our building's entrance from a production company saying they were filming a new flick in a nearby park, cafe, or building.

Besides, the European premiere for "Vanilla sky" was held in Washington, D.C.—I was there—and the same goes for "Maid in Manhattan"—saw that one too—along with plenty of other flicks. 😉

It’s just that the big stars don't usually fly out here, so there isn't much hype. 😢 Like, you read some news a few weeks later about how Penelope showed up in London for a premiere, but the movie had already played right here. Same thing with Jennifer Lopez. 🙂

So what if three blockbusters arrive three days early? If "Habl Con Ell" shows up six months late, or if it looks like Cronenberg's "Spider" might not even make it to your screens at all... 🙂

In London, you can pretty much see any film ever shot and distributed...

Where else are you going to find Kurdish, Uzbek, or Azerbaijani cinema? 😉

We've got the Sundance Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival, Human Rights Film Festival, Frameline Film Festival, San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, and even kids' festivals... plus all those international showcases like the Taormina Film Festival, Mexican, Greek, Russian, Chilean, Turkish, and more...

Can you even compete with that? 🙂

I mean, let's be real... London has the most incredible arts scene on the planet... 🙂 And that's not even counting the exhibitions, the music, or the theater... 🙂
I honestly think after London, it’s London Paris, then maybe Bec... and only then maybe Toronto or New York. 🙂

No way, though I certainly wish it were true. Vienna has a really impressive club scene, but that’s about it. Berlin is definitely more intense, and don't even get me started on New York City.

In Paris, there are so many tiny independent theaters near Harvard University showing just about everything—films from all over and every era imaginable. There's one theater called Accatone, which is named after a film I personally love quite a bit.
