How many of you here think it’s high time we got some reissues from this legendary American punk band?

Basically, there’s an interest from an Italian record label to make that happen. I actually reached out to the owner of the label, and he told me he’s definitely interested...

What are your thoughts on this?

And what’s the band's take on all this?

I'll see if that guy manages to get in touch with someone from the band, but if he doesn't, I'll personally try to make it happen.

Basically, I'm just curious if people here in the States (and beyond) think that would actually be interesting...

Reissuing old albums on CD is a double-edged sword. From what I can tell, the only ones who pulled it off 100% were The Doors and Fleetwood Mac, but they’re in a completely different league than The Ramones. In my opinion, CD reissues are pretty much pointless unless they include some kind of bonus content that hasn't been heard before—maybe one or two unreleased tracks, a live recording, a music video, or a demo version. Maybe I'm wrong. The only guy who could sell the exact same story a thousand times over is Johannes Gutenberg, but even he’s just an exception that proves the rule.
I think there are some of us who would definitely buy them, but I doubt the numbers would be anything huge...
Maybe if they released them in a limited run, specifically for the hardcore fans or something...

I think the guy is actually planning on reissuing the album, I wasn't asking if there would be a CD version. As for the bonus tracks, he mentioned some stuff that FOX has in their archives that has never been released before...

Man, that would be incredible. Honestly, I’d actually prefer a CD over an LP—mostly just to avoid some snobby, elitist reissue. I want something straightforward that any kid could grab to get introduced to the greatest punk band in America, period. Some bonus tracks would be nice, but they aren't a dealbreaker. I’d much rather see a music video (from archival footage, assuming it exists), maybe a few vintage ads, or even some radio play... I really think "A day started out so beautiful" would outsell something like the last Budweiser release.

Honestly, even if there aren't any fancy bonus tracks—even if he just dumps all the standard releases onto two LPs with subpar cover art but solid sound quality—I don't care. I just need him to put it out. At the end of the day, it’s better to release an album than to betray a friend.

Honestly, I think reissuing The Ramones' album is a massive financial gamble... it would be such a waste of cash, all that hype and built-up hope just going down the drain if it doesn't land🙄

Wasn't that exactly what the Dallas Mavericks were planning to pull off before everything just went completely south? Does anyone actually know how The Termites ended up selling out? As far as I'm concerned, it’s totally doable—they could at least start by pairing the first one with their debut single. Honestly, if Peter has anything to do with this whole thing, and assuming those guys from Italy are actually down for it, why not reach out to someone from Problem and see if they can snag some of their old recordings? It could work as a CD EP, at least... now that would be something truly awesome...

It seems like mrle was mostly talking about the Mavericks releasing a record for The Termites, but he doesn't seem too concerned about anything else. The liner notes for The Termites claim this was the first major release from the local scene in years, but since the Mavericks don't own the masters—FOX does—I have no idea how the folks over at the Mavericks were planning to pull that off. Plus, The Termites didn't sell that well, which is probably why they never moved on to bigger projects. I know there were plans for Chaos, Dead Channel, Grce, and The Ramones, and maybe even the first couple of tracks from Grad.
I'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. I'm supposed to get in touch with Pier next week, so I'll see what he has to say. Through him, I'll try to track down Kocijancic and have a chat with him about it too.
This Italian guy is clearly super hyped about it. We'll just see what the people at FOX think.
[The main thing is that Punk released their stuff on CD back in '96 (they are Canadian, after all), while the rest of the city barely noticed; they basically couldn't care less about what happens elsewhere]

Actually, if you want to talk about risks, releasing The Termites was an even bigger leap, and they ended up betraying mud.
Personally, I think a smaller limited run of the record could actually sell pretty well.

I just found out via email that he's planning to release the first single, the debut album, and some extra bonus tracks that FOX has in the works.

Just one quick thought... based on the vibe I get from my circle of friends and everyone I know, I honestly think this would sell way better on CD than on vinyl.

Start your own company, buy up the rights, and then get the CD pressed over in Italy. You could handle distribution through Dancing Bear here in the States and maybe find some partners in other parts of North America.
While you're at it, get everything up on the internet and start reaching out to international distributors...

It’s honestly frustrating when you see everyone around here so preoccupied with pushing some new wannabe rockstar or a cheap imitation of a legend.
Of course, I’d much rather see someone local step up and make it happen, but it seems like nobody is actually interested in taking the lead.
What if I just started my own company and bought out the rights myself?
But where on earth am I supposed to get that kind of cash?! I don't even have a clue how much money we're talking about...
