My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Alright, so I finally went to see this movie in theaters (after being talked into it), and honestly? It was awesome. Hey, you gotta have some fun sometimes, and I have to say, it actually landed some pretty hilarious jokes. The whole thing is straightforward, the pacing is spot on, and it wraps everything up nicely...

Anyway, if you're looking for a good time, go see it! Highly recommend!

Yeah, the movie is fantastic. Honestly, we probably get it better than most people because, deep down, we’re all North American, no matter how hard we try to act otherwise.
It's totally normal for family members to constantly stick their noses into each other's business.
Besides Iranians, Greeks are hands down the biggest nationalists I've ever encountered. They have a culture that's way older than almost everyone else's, and they make sure you know it at every single opportunity. They even go out of their way to highlight the Greek origins of certain words. They even claim "kimono" is actually a Greek word.😁
Given that the production budget was only $5 million and it's already pulled in about $230 million, the film has absolutely crushed all expectations.
The lead, Nia Vardalos, is married to an actor who has a small role here, Ian Gomez, who I think is pretty well known for playing a gay character in that really popular show Felicity.
A few Greeks mentioned to me that the main heroine's accent isn't exactly authentic, but honestly, that doesn't bother us one bit, does it?

Honestly, I haven't laughed that hard in a movie theater in forever. It was one of those movies where you're almost embarrassed for the characters because it's so much, but in a good way.😳
I actually really loved how incredibly basic the whole plot was—you know, the classic trope of an older woman finding her prince charming, using all those cultural clashes for laughs—but somehow, the movie just feels so genuinely warm and fuzzy as a whole.
BTW, the lead actress, Nia Vardalos, actually wrote the whole thing herself! She used to perform the material as a stand-up comedian for ages until she eventually caught the eye of a producer working with Tom Hanks... and well, you know how the rest goes. Money got secured, the movie got made, and here we are.
All in all, big thumbs up from me!😁

Wow, everyone seems absolutely thrilled about this one!
Personally, I found the movie just okay. It’s light, easygoing, and fun enough... I guess. That bit with the lady having testicles and a few other funny moments kept things moving... But I honestly don't get why it's such a massive hit. I suspect people might just be tired of all those high-octane action flicks filled with special effects, space battles, or general chaos... I'd give it a passing grade if you want something to watch, but it's definitely not one of the greats...

I absolutely loved this movie!!! I was bracing myself for a ton of clichés, but honestly, they just weren't there.... It's been a long time since I've seen a film that actually makes me laugh out loud like this... so good...🙂

Yeah, I’m kind of in the same boat... It’s not that the movie isn't worth a few $9.00, but there isn't anything groundbreaking enough to make you walk out thinking, "Wow, now I see why they made so much cash..."

I basically spent the entire movie passed out—or at least trying to—while constantly taking an elbow to the ribs from my better half... she was being downright sadistic about punishing me for even suggesting we see it, especially since she was the one who shelled out for the tickets... I don't know, the whole thing felt like all style and no substance, almost like some watered-down version of a comedy for people who haven't seen anything real. I just can't bring myself to laugh at stuff like this after growing up on those gritty, dark comedies back home...

It’s a genuinely charming little flick. Very much centered on family dynamics. While it doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel or break any cinematic ground, it remains quite endearing, fun, and deeply romantic...🙂

The only movie I’ve sat through in the last three years where I actually walked out halfway through... absolutely terrible.🙂

We already have "East being eastern," which is way better. When it comes to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the biggest letdown is definitely the casting for the male lead. John Corbett was only somewhat tolerable back in "Life in the North."
The opening of the movie actually looked promising, but things just sort of fizzled out halfway through. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a shaky 4.👎

I’m totally with you there. 🙂 Filmic was alright, I guess, but honestly? I can barely recall a single scene from it. 😕 And that was only like two weeks ago. It’s just one of those movies you put on to zone out after a brutal week—nothing more, nothing less.

The only redeeming quality for me is that the lead actress didn't go through some ridiculous Hollywood transformation—you know, where they force a diet or a crazy gym montage on them just to look different. 👍

As for all those mindless stereotypes the movie leans on... whether it's about the Greeks, the Irishmen (wait, is he an Irishman?), or Americans... 🤮 That part really rubbed me the wrong way. 🙄

I actually quite enjoyed the movie. It captures that breezy, coastal atmosphere I haven't encountered on screen in ages... genuinely entertaining. 🙂

The movie is practically built on clichés and cheap gags, and here is just one example:

that whole bit where John Corbett's parents (I can't remember the guy's name in the movie) show up at the Greek family's house to meet everyone...

I watched it last night, and honestly, I can't even remember a single good scene.
