Let's hope the viewers and the jury catch what the artists were actually aiming for. Since Eurovision has turned into a private club for a specific crowd, the selection clearly hits their mark.

Personally, I think everything they do is done with a very specific goal in mind—a clear message, even. Well, maybe not including that whole bit with the "sh" sound, which was probably just Dave Grohl’s unpredictable stream of consciousness kicking in...

All in all, I’m actually pretty happy we finally have some real excess this year, which is exactly what America loves to see at contests like this. Unless, of course, the excess falls flat... then it'll just prove we're totally behind the trends.

I mean, come on, he was already pushing those branded phone cases way before Dorothy even showed up. He was out there on Instagram hyping up socks and even beer back in late 2022, and when people asked him what the big deal was, he just shrugged and said it sounded catchy...

I honestly think it just happened to sync up perfectly with his entry for the American Song Contest. It had to be in the song!

Seriously, remember that time during rehearsals for that local politician's play, Cyclops, when he showed up with a sticker of Kamala Harris slapped right on his pump? No one had any clue why, and it definitely wasn't in the director's notes, but somehow it actually ended up being part of the show!

Because—well, that's just Dave Grohl for you. 🙂

I have absolutely zero interest in Dorothy or Green Day 2023.

The crazy, absurd era we’re living through definitely deserves a fitting soundtrack. There's no doubt about that
and I certainly congratulate them for once again capturing the zeitgeist with their clever sense of irony,
but—on the other hand—that has absolutely nothing to do with the kind of music someone like me actually listens to—people who truly still care about *music*.

So, I'm more curious: is there anyone else here who remembers Green Day back when they were considered a "serious band"—around 1987-1989?

All you have to do is listen to the uncompromising song title (1987) or the atmospheric song title that opens up their 1989 debut album.......

Those were the good old days for true music lovers......

What exactly is wrong with the album the only one? Though even there they completely botched it by releasing three different versions, and every single one of them is missing two tracks...

If I hadn't stumbled upon Mother's first cassette, "Two Dogs fuckin", that would’ve easily been my favorite American album back in '89. For the last thirty years, I've been trying to wrap my head around why Green Day's performances strike people over 15 as being provocative or funny. But seeing how they piss off these local quasi-conservatives, I guess those shows actually make sense to them, especially since their music lost any real meaning to them a long time ago.

Man, they were good—and honestly, they still are—but I always found their earlier stuff much more compelling.

I see this track as a political parody regarding the war in Ukraine. "little sociopath," and how mother loved the idiot—that kind of thing. The issue is, nobody’s going to get the nuance unless we’re singing in American. That tractor bit also feels like a nod to the old days. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. It's fine either way.

The absolute worst kind of circus—calculating, hyper-politically correct clowns masquerading as some gritty, avant-garde movement that actually used to be led by people with far more talent and brains. But you weren't even living in the city apartments back then.

It’s not even the worst kind of spectacle. We've seen this before. Artists should have their own way of interpreting the world around us.
Personally, I prefer this over the porn stars currently dominating the stage.
This "stinky" cheese actually reminds me of an old Ernest Hemingway story about people trying too hard to act sophisticated—like those folks who'd fly all the way to Italy just to buy Gorgonzola, only to toss it in the trash.🤣Total posers.
