Need RAM and a battery for my Dell laptop

So, I’ve been working with this Dell Inspiron that currently has 6GB of RAM, and I’m really looking to bump that up to at least 8GB because, frankly, things are feeling a bit sluggish lately, and I could definitely use a little more speed.
My main dilemma is knowing exactly which module to pick; specifically, I'm wondering what the actual real-world differences are between those various options you see on Amazon versus sticking with a major, well-known brand name.
If anyone has any solid recommendations, I would truly appreciate it.

On a separate note, I have a question regarding the battery. Unfortunately, mine seems to have given up the ghost after only a year, and I honestly can't quite pin down why—I suppose I just had some bad luck, though I did notice the fan was constantly whirring whenever I shut the laptop down... anyway, the bottom line is I need to hunt down a replacement.
This brings me to my next question: which battery should I be looking for, and is it actually safe to order one through Amazon or somewhere similar?

It depends on what you actually do with the laptop. Honestly, you won't notice much of a difference jumping from 6GB to 8GB.
Your battery likely died because you keep it plugged into the charger constantly. As for the link, that battery looks fine. I recently ordered one for a nearly identical machine; it cost me about $23, so you can probably find one even cheaper.

So, where on earth did you end up ordering that battery from?

Going from 6 to 8GB of Dell laptop RAM isn't gonna change a damn thing—your OS is probably just bloated as hell anyway.
