So, here’s the situation—I recently picked up a new LC CC 85 cooler. The issue, however, is that I am completely stumped on how to actually install it. I managed to get the mounting bracket set up just fine, but everything after that is proving to be a bit of a headache. These two little knobs are giving me nothing but trouble; I’ve searched online and even watched some tutorials, yet I still can't seem to get them to cooperate. To be more specific, I am stuck right at this part:

It's those handles—they feel far too loose...

Which manufacturers is this actually compatible with? Is it for Intel or maybe AMD? What kind of socket are we talking about here? Also, did you get a chance to check the installation manual that came in the box? As far as I can remember, with these types of coolers, you usually start by putting the backplate behind the motherboard first—you secure it with the screws to hold everything in place—then you just set the cooler on top, tighten the screws, and you're good to go... But yeah, let me know about those questions I asked above first.

Exactly this one http://www.lc-power.com/en/product/p...lies/lc-cc-85/ . My setup uses an old Intel socket 775—relics of a bygone era, really—and I’ve been scouring the manual to figure out how to seat that mounting bracket properly. To be perfectly honest, I haven't even managed to attach the base to the motherboard yet; I'm currently attempting to balance the whole assembly in mid-air like some sort of precarious architectural experiment, and frankly, it's not going well. If I have to keep lifting and resetting it, I'm inevitably going to make a mess of the thermal paste, which is a headache I'd rather avoid at all costs.

Did you end up getting that backplate? You’ll want to mount it behind the motherboard rather than putting it directly onto the processor—you know, as the mounting base. Also, will you be able to screw the cooler into it? If that cooler doesn't even require a backplate to begin with, then the whole installation should be even easier...

The backplate isn't even there. What’s actually giving me grief is View on imgur these little clips—I can't quite find the right way to describe them, really. It feels like one of them always pops loose, almost as if they're just... poorly fitted? Or maybe just loose by design, though I highly doubt it.

So, my take is that those clips were specifically designed for Intel processors 🤔 since with Intel, there’s usually extra plastic clearance to make room for those two side levers. Is there any way you can actually get rid of those two latches/clips..?

Are you referring to those checkmarks I circled? Because if that’s the case—and I suspect it might be—then we’re looking at a bit of a disaster waiting to happen... how on earth is the refrigerator supposed to stay upright if we proceed like this?

I don't know off the top of my head—not that I can read your mind or anything! You've got the manual right there at home showing how to install the cooler, plus you've already seen the video of what this guy did...

Code:
Honestly, I haven't even mounted the bracket to the motherboard yet. I'm trying to hover it in mid-air to get it right, but it’s not working—and I really don't want to mess up the thermal paste by having to lift it up constantly...

Just mount the bracket to the motherboard and get those screws in first. It’s not a big deal if you mess up the paste by lifting the cooler; cleaning it up is the easy part—just grab some rubbing alcohol and some paper towels...

I really stepped in it this time—I’ll be the first to admit it. I probably should have been more careful about what I was pairing with my motherboard in the first place...🤦

See, there you go. 🙂 Honestly, I was sitting here wondering how anyone could even attempt to seraphim through thin air like that—but hey, I guess we all learn from our mistakes along the way...
