Hey there!
Since summer is right around the corner and things are heating up, I’m looking to swap out my Intel's stock cooler on my i7 2600 (non-K version) for something better. I've been eyeing the cm Seidon 120 v (ver. 2)—I'm pretty sure it'll fit my setup, but I always like to double-check first. My specs are listed below the post, so if anyone could just let me know if this is a go, I'd appreciate it.
Also, if anyone has suggestions for a different water cooler that offers better "bang for your buck," please let me know. I'm mainly upgrading because my CPU temps tend to spike quite high—hitting around 90 degrees—so maybe I didn't apply the thermal paste quite right, or something? Either way, I want to upgrade so I can try a little bit of overclocking.

Thanks in advance!

You won't be able to overclock on a B75 board since you can't mess with the multiplier. Plus, starting with Sandy Bridge, Intel's CPUs make it pretty much impossible to tweak the BCLK, so you aren't going to see anything beyond 100MHz anyway.

You could grab that cooler ($133 over at Micro Center), though I guess you could find something a bit cheaper that would still get the job done.

I've just got this feeling that the B75 won't really handle overclocking—but hey, it’s probably not that big of a deal anyway. I'll give it some more thought, though I'll most likely end up grabbing that cooler.

Why even bother with a Seidon? It’s a total waste of money. People were getting way better results with the 212 EVO, and it costs almost half as much. You might as well just grab an LC-CC-120 and call it a day; besides, you won't be able to overclock it anyway, like you were already told. $133 spending money on overpriced liquid cooling for a non-K processor on a B75 motherboard. 🤣 It doesn't get any more ridiculous than that. 😬

I figured I'd just ask here instead of cluttering things up with a whole new thread.
So, I'm running an FX 6300 with the stock cooler... and honestly, if it doesn't sound like a washing machine going through a heavy spin cycle while I'm playing GTA 5, I'm not happy—but even then, my temps hit about 65-70c.
That’s not exactly ideal, right?

Looking at these options, which one is the best pick from $33? I don't need anything crazy or high-end—just something that can shave off maybe 10 degrees and won't sound like a jet engine compared to this stock http://www.amazon.com/cpu-coolers

That's not exactly great, right?

Out of these, which one is the best from $33? I don't need anything crazy fancy, just something that'll drop my temps by at least 10 degrees and run quieter than this stock http://www.amazon.com/CPU-Coolers/b?node=12489183

Just ask them to pull it from another branch and hang tight for a few days. Honestly, that Alpine isn't going to cut it for FX unless you kill the turbo and dial back the voltage a bit.

Is a 160W TDP cooler enough for a 120W TDP CPU?

Man, looking at this LC Power thing, it honestly looks almost identical to my current stock cooler... I mean, I have no clue if it actually performs any better than what I've got right now, to be honest

If it looks like an LC Power model, you aren't running a stock cooler. The Alpine version is significantly inferior—it’s barely better than the basic factory unit. You might have swapped them by mistake.

Generally speaking, when dealing with high-end CPUs like this, you really need to budget for an aftermarket cooler right out of the gate. It's essential to prevent the exact kind of thermal issues we're seeing here. That is precisely why they are recommended in most custom builds.

Also, također đojni D klab since you're the third one today.

That’s why I’m planning to grab a Quiet shadow rock Slim before my new build even arrives. I'm really hoping that its rated 160W TDP will provide enough breathing room for a 120W TDP processor.

You're overthinking the trivial stuff. It doesn't really matter; it’s just marketing fluff at this point. When you're deep into overclocking, a "160W" rated cooler can actually become a bottleneck if you're trying to push an 80W processor even further. Personally, I never bother checking those specific ratings—I have no clue what every single cooler claims to handle. Just check some reviews, grab the most powerful cooler you can afford, and call it a day.

Can a manufacturer just slap any TDP rating they want on a cooler? 😁

Looks like the AMD crowd is starting to revolt now that temps are creeping up a bit. Everyone's losing their minds.
