Can't download anything

Hey everyone,

I’ve hit a bit of a wall with my PC—I can't download anything from the web anymore. It doesn't matter if it's a Word document attached to an email or a torrent file; everything just fails.
I'm running Windows 7 and have Avast installed as my antivirus.
In an attempt to troubleshoot, I actually went through the whole process of uninstalling and reinstalling Avast, thinking it might be the culprit, but no luck there—it didn't change a thing.
To add to the headache, my Office 2010 isn't activated yet, and I've only got a few days left before it expires. I tried to wipe the software entirely to see if that would help, but the system won't even let me delete it.

Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing this?
Everything was working perfectly fine until just a couple of days ago.

So, what kind of headache are we actually talking about when you try to download something? Give me some specifics here...

I’m using Mozilla, and whenever I attempt to grab an attachment from my email—or even just click a magnet link on a torrent site to trigger the client—that little arrow icon in the corner showing the download list starts flashing at me. When I finally click it to see what happened, every single entry just sits there stating "failed."

Try downloading something using Internet Explorer. If it still fails, just send over a screenshot.

You make a fair point, my friend!
I can download files just fine in Internet Explorer—whether it's starting a torrent or grabbing an email attachment—so there isn't an issue there.
I think I'll try a clean reinstall of Mozilla and see if that clears things up.

Please, as if anyone still uses Mozilla, Chrome rules 😁
