James Collins said:Nobody is even saying that. The actual point—which you guys are either totally ignoring or just twisting around—is that nobody was supposed to get points for that race at all.
It’s like two football teams head out for warmups, the weather is right on the edge of being unplayable, things get worse mid-way through, and then the ref and the crew decide it’s too risky and call the whole thing off after a few minutes. Then later, they announce the favorite gets 1.5 points (half a win) and the underdog gets 0.5 (half a draw).
Sounds stupid, right? Would the favorite have won? Who knows.
It’s just plain dumb to hand out points when the game didn't even happen.
Same goes for giving points for a race that wasn't actually driven.
Honestly, I don't care if Lewis is better, Max is better, or if a literal saint is better. The point is, someone got points they didn't earn.

What is wrong with you people...🤦

How many damn races have we seen where everyone just crawls behind the SC for 10, 15, maybe 20 laps, then maybe we get half a lap or one full lap without the SC, then boom—somebody like Yuki Tsunoda crashes into someone or hits the wall on a rolling start, bringing back the SC or a red flag, and then we sit there watching trucks crawl around cleaning up debris for 15 laps, followed by another 10-15 laps behind the SC, blah blah blah... and then darkness and the points are split.🙄

It’s not the first time either. The only difference is that Massi, unlike Charlie, didn't have the balls to say "start the race." If anyone wants to whine about the conditions, they can go cry to their mommy at home.☕

If he walked away with points after a race like that, I can't say I'm surprised. At least he drove the best he could. There was definitely a chance someone would have slammed right into Max Verstappen 😁, but that didn't happen because they decided to just hand him free points—just like how everything seems to go his way so many times this season. Trying to spin this to favor Lewis Hamilton is honestly laughable 🙄

edit: Great breakdown of the incident. If Lewis had veered into Max Verstappen at the 4:20 mark, just like when Max Verstappen hit him at Silverstone, they both would've ended up in the gravel just like last time. I really hope Max Verstappen gets punished retroactively.

The only joke here is how you people twist logic and math until it’s unrecognizable🙂
If Max Verstappen had taken those points for a race like that, he’d be sitting 5 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton, plain and simple...

Everything else is just pure stupidity on your part. It was obvious from the jump that the race would go ahead, even if cars were only crawling ten meters behind the SC or whatever distance qualifies as "held"☕
And that was clear before the first FP. Anyone with half a brain was already bracing for it during FP, since the results from any FP that weekend can technically set the grid and determine point distribution under the rules... nothing new, nothing surprising here.

Canceling the race is practically impossible because the financial fallout for the F1 owners, the FIA, the teams, and everyone else in the chain would be massive. So, obviously, it has to happen...

Anything else is just peak nonsense. It's not the FIA's fault, it's not God's fault, and it's not some aliens starting 3 places back that's to blame for Hamilton
... If a guy like George Russell in a Williams Racing could start 2nd, then I guess the "best rainy day driver," the "GOAT," and all that nonsense can somehow grab a Williams too, while Max Verstappen—who apparently has zero clue how to drive in bad weather—gets his advantage neutralized by the rain🙂

They could have started the race, but they didn't. Why? Because they decided to hand those points over to Max Verstappen instead. They didn't actually have to give them to anyone else!

How much drama would there be if the situation were flipped? 🙄

Rebecca Parker said:It’s because Max didn't brake in time—or hard enough—which is why he drifted out to the outside of the turn. Honestly, it looked like he didn't even turn the wheel as much as he could have. Meanwhile, Lewis braked early at Silverstone (actually, he should have braked even earlier, which makes him mostly responsible for the collision), so what started as them being side-by-side turned into Max being in front, cutting off the line when he swung toward Lewis. He still had room on the outside! If he had driven like Lewis did in Brazil—backing off and giving space—they both would have made the corner. Silverstone was on both of them (though Lewis carries more weight there, isn't that how the stewards mostly ruled?), but Brazil? That's entirely on Max. He should have been punished.

😵 You're wrong; you can definitely dive in at Turn 4 without an issue. Honestly, people dive in all the time with a three-car-length gap behind them.

Max was still parallel with Lewis entering the corner (front-to-back). Just look at races from previous years and you'll see this is a situation where people overtake without any trouble.

It wasn't even "too hot," because he's already half a car length ahead before the apex and adds more throttle. The guy just took an early apex and drove the racing line, and by that early apex, he's already half a car ahead. If you don't believe me, look at Austria 2019. He went off because of the asphalt on the other side and those curb strips; if he'd stayed on track, those curbs would have caught under the car. Plus, naturally, he would have had to be a bit later on the gas, otherwise Lewis would have overtaken him off-track.

If there were gravel on the outside, neither Max nor Lewis would have gone off the track, and that’s the problem with modern circuits. You see it again this year with Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, where Räikkönen pushed Alonso completely off the track after following him along the racing line.

-------------Silverstone-------------

If you look at it from another angle, I just don't get it. Mostly the fault lies with🤦 Max not leaving enough room.🤔

image

Or that Lewis and Rosberg didn't leave enough room. How much room is even enough? If we want to take things to an absurd extreme. And I'm not even comparing it to a corner configuration where Copse isn't a passing zone.

It would be even better if they brought up those silly arguments about how parallel they were in the braking zone.🤔 Give me a break. In Hamilton-Raikkonen 2007, Hamilton-Rosberg 2014, and Hamilton-Vettel 2017, he was a couple of car lengths behind when he attacked, so he was in front by the apex and took the corner/racing line. In the end, Rosberg retaliated in USA 2015 when he overtook him on track and also pulled a dive.

🤦 You look at a shot from the start of the 120m braking zone and claim Lewis turned in 🤦turned in where? 🤔He definitely wasn't turning into a corner when his steering wheel only starts rotating 40m before the turn. 😵

You're honestly just picking on him now.

How on earth did they decide to basically hand those points to Max?
When exactly did Lewis score those extra 5 points? Because by dragging out the start like that, they basically cut the total points in half.
25 - 15 = 10, 12.5 - 7.5 = 5 ☕
If they actually wanted to be completely neutral, they’d just sit right behind the Scuderia until the rain stops. If it doesn't stop, then everyone gets full points and we can all go home happy.
If they really wanted to screw Max over, they would've ended the race right after lap 23 and just handed out full points.
The way they set this up? It looks like nothing more than a blatant favor for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes-Benz.

So, you're asking me to explain how they could possibly decide not to award points to anyone? Seriously? I mean, come on. It sounds absolutely ridiculous when you say it out loud, right? But yeah, here we go. 🙂
Look, just explain it to me. Give me the details, please... I'm lost.

Who’s actually footing the bill?
You Lewis Hamilton fans would be out there begging for spare change at traffic lights, and then you'd just expect Toto or Lewis to cough up the cash. 🙂

Are you even aware of what you just said?
Man, I don't even want to think about the cost. We're talking tens of millions in damages owed to TV networks all over the world, payouts to track owners, refunding everyone who bought tickets... it’s just an absolute nightmare.
And all that just so poor Lewis could have another chance to embarrass himself during the race like he did in qualifying? 🤷

Honestly, someone should just give Lewis Hamilton 100 points for pure artistic merit after that brilliant qualifying session. Everyone else? Zero. 🙂

Kyle Lopez2 said:Rosberg was also out in Austria back in '16, stuck on his own line.🤣 Yuki Tsunoda was also right at the apex when he clipped half of Lance Stroll's car. Honestly, you just have to dive in, hit an early apex, and floor it—make Stroll be the one to dodge you.🤣

You’re saying if Max hadn't taken himself out, he would have had the advantage. 🤦 Remind us again about how Charles Leclerc managed to stay on track and avoid taking himself out. 🤔

If you sat down in a meeting with any group of professional drivers and showed them footage of Lewis Hamilton, then asked if he could realistically overtake Max Verstappen in Copse corner—considering there isn't even a braking zone there—you'd get some pretty interesting reactions. The answer is no. There isn't a braking zone there, so you can't make up enough ground to get ahead at the apex just so you can "hit the racing line."

If you still haven't realized after thirty years behind the wheel that you're eventually going to cause an accident—and more importantly, have a rough idea of what kind of wreck that might be—then you’re honestly just being reckless.

The whole idea behind a dive is just to hit that racing line right at the apex and carry that momentum all the way through the turn. Honestly, fuck yeah. That’s been the standard for fifty years.

What racing line? Max completely missed the track.
It wasn't a lockup, he just took a path that had absolutely nothing to do with the actual circuit. He did it on purpose.
Just look at how he entered that corner during qualifying versus how he did it on lap 48. It's obvious.

I’m reading this and I honestly can't believe what these two are typing.

It’s pretty straightforward: Max didn't enter that corner trying to make the turn; he went in specifically to shove Lewis Hamilton off the track.
You can clearly see the steering wheel snap left only after they've both already gone wide.
It's obvious as hell—if you want to debate, there's your starting point.

The guy enters the bend without even attempting to hit the apex; his eyes are clearly on forcing his opponent out instead.

Look, I don't care whose fan you are, just don't be deluded.

The way Mario compares collisions🤔 makes Copse look like an unpredictable accident, when this was actually an intentional hit.

That’s just not true. When you try to overtake at Copse like Lewis did, there's an 80% chance you're going to collide.

What Max did was a dive. If the area off-track were gravel, Max wouldn't have gone wide; he would have stayed on the brakes longer and Lewis would have been shut out.

Max went off-track specifically so he wouldn't ruin his floor on those white curbs behind the red and white ones, and to stop Lewis from overtaking him off-track since he would have had to stay off the throttle for too long.

Of course the whole move was intentional—that's how a dive works. You take the position on the track and use your car to block the opponent's line, forcing them toward the edge.

But here is what isn't true.
In the whole sequence, Lewis didn't avoid a collision because there wasn't really a collision to avoid. By the time he hits the apex, he's already half a car behind Max, unless he's trying to pull a Michael Schumacher '97 and smash into Max halfway.

Throughout the whole thing, Max didn't cause a collision, nor did he intend to cause one, and he certainly wasn't close to causing one. This was just a standard dive.

The only controversial part is leaving the track while defending, not all this nonsense people are typing. He intentionally pushed Lewis; he wanted the contact and all that drama. Even if we assume he did push him intentionally, we aren't stupid enough to think that if you take the racing line, you won't push whoever is hugging the outside of the track right off the circuit.🤣

The way Lewis Hamilton hit that corner in qualifying versus how he handled it on lap 48... what a difference. 🙂
The only way he overtakes him—and I mean actually doing it on the track—is if aliens abduct Max mid-lap or if Max just slams on the brakes and lets him through.
Both scenarios are completely unrealistic. ☕

Is this Max Verstappen doing this on purpose?
Look, if you're saying "good morning" on purpose, fine. But you don't just drive a car around a track unconsciously or by accident, and you certainly aren't defending yourself against... 19 milesI’d take a faster car with massive grip any day. Please, don't. 🙂

Was Lewis Hamilton's entry into that corner intentional?
Let’s be real, that move was intentional. He went in exactly how he did just to force Max Verstappen to brake hard or mess up, hoping it would land him a penalty.
Let's be real—he didn't just happen to end up in that position by accident while trying to overtake. There's no way he's some innocent victim here. Max Verstappen definitely wasn't just out for a casual drive when he shoved him off the track. 🤣

Was there any penalty handed out for that?

Sure, Max Verstappen could get penalized, but honestly? It’s not a done deal.
If the FIA actually wants us to watch racing, then punishing drivers like this is just insane. This kind of stuff is literally the whole reason we tune in to Formula 1. 😳
It’s all or nothing—fighting for the win and the title. Aggressive defending, relentless attacks, and pushing until the very last inch without backing down.
Trying to overcomplicate things like that is peak stupidity. If they actually go through with it, they’re just being idiots for the sake of it.
People would still be acting like idiots even if Max had stayed on track and Lewis passed him by just a few inches while clipping the curb. They’d still find some way to demand he get punished for "overtaking off-track" or whatever nonsense they're claiming now.

Do you want F1 to be an adrenaline-fueled battle between the fastest gladiators on the planet, or do you want it to be a whining competition before, during, and after the race?
Are we seriously asking for a reality show where we just sit around listening to Toto, Christian Horner, Helmut Marko, and the rest of the crew whining about Felipe Massa and his crew? Followed by all the drivers melodramatically acting like they were nearly murdered during those kinds of situations?
Watching Ronne tear up and act like he's got PTSD after a duel like that... or just some kid losing his mind. 🙄
If we actually get what we're asking for, we won't be debating who the fastest driver is or who the best racer is. Instead, we'll be wondering who the best actor is and who has the most expensive legal team sitting around a conference table.

Penalties like this should only happen if there’s an actual collision. As long as parts aren't flying through the air and nobody is touching or causing damage, just let them race. Let them fight it out and actually give the fans something worth watching.
Especially when you're talking about these kinds of battles where there’s zero actual danger involved. The odds of a collision are basically non-existent. No matter how you look at it, I don't see which kid is being dangerous here or why anyone would actually deserve a penalty.

I honestly don't get it. How can any actual sports fan look at a situation like this and call for a penalty? It makes zero sense.
Well hello. If they actually start handing out penalties for stuff like this, we’re all in big trouble.
Just a straight procession from start to finish, exactly like the order we saw at the end of lap one...
B.) A race where passing outside the DRS zone is basically a suicide mission unless you've got a literal rocket strapped to your car. Every single overtake just looks like someone getting lapped...
C.) A race that wraps up on Sunday, only for us to sit in limbo for the next two weeks while the officials debate and bicker over who gets what penalty. We might not even know who actually won the championship until three months into next season—if we ever find out at all...

You’re a bigger demagogue than Vettel is a driver.
It’s simple. There are rules, and there are penalties for breaking them. Period. We already saw a penalty handed out this year for a much smaller infraction during a similar duel. It doesn't matter if the consequences were harsher this time; officially, the blame is shared. The guy who ended up in the barrier wouldn't be there if he had acted more or less like Lewis Hamilton did. In this instance, Lewis Hamilton was forced fifty meters off the track, whereas in that first case, it would have been maybe a couple of meters—assuming the driver actually wanted to avoid contact.

Blah, blah, blah...
Poor Lewis got shoved fifty meters off the track, but it feels to me like Max Verstappen pushed him nearly 2.8 kilometers away from the circuit. 🤔

If they had just slapped Max with a penalty mid-race, it wouldn't have mattered at all...☕
But doing it right now? That would be an absolute embarrassment on an epic scale. It would be such blatant favoritism toward Mercedes that it would be disgusting, and F1 would literally lose a massive chunk of its fanbase.

Whether Max is guilty or not is basically irrelevant here.
But handing out a penalty after you basically said there wouldn't be one during the race is just painfully shameful.
Why are you even asking? 🙂

Because it's obvious as day why the stewards gave Max a 5-second—or even that famous 10-second—penalty, when in reality, it effectively counts as zero points...
Even if they went crazy and handed him 10 seconds because "that's just how Max acts" when he's shoving people harder than Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas did to a quarter of the grid... 🙂
Because apparently poor Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have childhood traumas, so it's somehow worse when you nudge them than when you ram into others or take out half the field. I guess they need lighter penalties because of their "trauma."

It's crystal clear that Max wouldn't have slowed down after Lewis Hamilton overtook him if he knew he had a penalty; he would've just maintained that 10-second gap to Bottas...🙂
https://en.mclarenf-1.com/2021/gp/s8...times/821-801/

At this point, a post-race penalty would be an epic disgrace and pure interference by the FIA in the title fight to help Mercedes. ☕
In fact, it would be such biased favoring of the Germans that the championship title could be declared completely worthless.☕

So, look... if they only hand out penalties for actual contact, then Max Verstappen might as well keep driving like a maniac. He’ll just keep trying to force Lewis Hamilton off the track at every single race for the rest of the season. It honestly makes sense for him at this point...

Honestly, I’d much rather see two drivers actually go for the same corner and end up clashing than watch one guy pull some "totally new corner" bullshit... You know, when they just dive off the track, knowing full well the other driver has zero chance of avoiding a collision unless they just give up the spot—even though it's obvious their car is faster. It's cheap. Just plain cheap...

First off, call it a racing incident if you want—I don't care how messy the contact was... But second? This is nothing but a blatant, pure abuse of the current points standings. Seriously...

Total nonsense. Just compare Lewis Hamilton’s dive at Lando Norris during (I think) the last lap of that sprint race to what Max Verstappen just pulled. It isn't even close... In the first case, Lewis brakes later than Lando, sure, but he actually keeps control of the car so both of them can stay on the track. In the second case? Max has zero intention of actually completing the lap... he just drives straight off the track.

We can go back and forth on whether people should be punished in those kinds of situations—personally, I say yes—but only a complete idiot could claim that what went down between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in Brazil was just some typical driving error...

There really is one incredibly straightforward way to deal with a driver who attempts a suicide dive from the inside by braking far too late: simply brake at the correct time, let them fly off into the gravel, and proceed through the turn normally, much like how Sergio Perez handled Valtteri Bottas during that first lap. ☕

Blah, blah, blah...
If we wrap this up, according to British driver Brundle, both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton braked way too late and neither of them took the corner on a normal line,
so if there was zero chance for either of them to make it through normally within the track limits, then what exactly does that mean? 🙂
