Best external GPU options for laptops?

So I've got this HP Pavilion dv6 laptop where the screen just went totally black because the graphics card kicked the bucket, so I was wondering if any of you tech experts could tell me how much a replacement is actually gonna run me?

How can you be so sure it’s actually the graphics card that died? Are you just taking a guess, or are you 100% certain about it?

That specific model comes in configurations featuring both AMD and Intel processors.

Usually, if you're looking at discrete graphics, they're soldered onto the motherboard, which means you're stuck replacing the whole board or attempting a repair. Then, of course, you have the APUs integrated directly into the CPU itself.

And yeah, there are setups that utilize a combination of both.

But here's the thing: right now, we're flying blind. We don't know which processor is under the hood, and we don't even know if it has discrete graphics or not. We know absolutely nothing.
