People who ran their setups similarly to yours—using a 6-pin instead of an 8-pin—reported having zero issues. Granted, they weren't rocking the exact same GPU you have, so I can't say for sure if the boost clock behavior would differ... Still... if you've got that adapter lying around, just plug it in and stop worrying about it.

So, what about buying those crazy adapters and converters? My HDD actually gets its power through some weird converter right now. Is there an option to get a converter specifically for an HDD like that?

Something like this?

From what I can gather, going with a Molex-to-PCIe setup feels a bit risky, doesn't it? Most of those power supply wires are just too thin since they're designed for hard drives that don't pull nearly as many watts as a modern graphics card does. If anyone actually decides to go that route, wouldn't it be essential to plug them into two separate Molex cables? That’s why I decided to grab a PCIe 6-pin to dual 8-pin adapter cable instead; there's a much better chance the wiring on a 6-pin PCIe lead will be decent—at least 20AWG—and since this specific one uses two or three wires to carry the current while a Molex usually only has one, it seems like the safer bet, right?

If it’s got those 6 or 8-pin connectors, that’s definitely going to be your best bet. 😉

Wait, what gives? Why is the price on $333 lower than everywhere else 😁

Actually, the price seems pretty much in line with the rest of the market:

It’s a pretty standard price, though I don't think it makes much sense when you can grab a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER for under $1167. As for why this specific model is sitting at $1667 elsewhere, it feels like a mix of that typical, unjustified markup on Dell cards and just outdated pricing.

Maybe it’s worth holding out for those Radeon RX 5700 models.

If I recall correctly, the reference Radeon RX 5700 sits right in the same ballpark as the GeForce RTX 2070, but at a much more reasonable price point. Plus, if the AiB Radeon RX 5700 comes with those slightly higher clock speeds, it’s looking like a total best buy.

Dammit, I step away from the screen for two months and suddenly I’m drowning in a sea of new hardware. I honestly had zero clue that AMD and NVIDIA dropped new GPUs while I was out living my life.

Looks like you picked the absolute worst time to tune out.😬

The GeForce RTX 2080 Super just hit the shelves, but honestly, it’s only about a 5-6% bump over the standard GeForce RTX 2070 performance.😬

We should see the Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700X models featuring custom cooling solutions starting as early as mid-August, likely rolling out through September.

I'm thinking about picking up a new graphics card and could use some advice.
My current PC setup looks like this:
AMD Ryzen 5 2400g with Radeon vega graphics 3.59 ghz
I've got 8 GB of RAM, though only about 6.93 GB is usable since I assume the integrated graphics is hogging the rest.

It really just depends on your budget. Personally, I wouldn't drop below a Radeon RX 570 since they're super affordable right now.
Even though you could theoretically pair almost anything with a Ryzen, I personally wouldn't bother going higher than a GTX 1660 or 1660 Ti.

This GTX 1060 is sitting right around $400, which honestly sounds like a pretty solid deal to me.

The next step up would be the GTX 1070. It costs a bit more, but you get maybe 10-20% better performance depending on the game.

It might be worth grabbing the version with 8 GB of RAM; the difference isn't massive, but you can sometimes find a GTX 1070 with 8 GB for around $517 bucks if you know where to look... it really pays to keep an eye out on those marketplaces...

$1600 is a standard price point, but honestly, there isn't much point in paying more unless you're pushing past 1080p. That would be a huge jump in cost compared to a GTX 1060 or even a 4GB version of the GTX 1070.
In reality, in about 90% of cases, you won't notice any actual difference between the 4GB and 8GB models at 1080p.

In about 90% of scenarios, you aren't going to notice any meaningful difference between the 4GB and 8GB models when you're sticking to 1080p.

Well, fair enough; I just realized that some GTX 1070 4GB cards are actually selling for less than that $400 :eek...no brainer

So, does that mean I should be looking at either the GTX 1060 or the GTX 1070?

And you can grab the 8GB version for just a bit more than the 4GB one.
