I noticed that the appeal posted by Green Mountain Man over in the banned users section has vanished. It looks like administration might have wiped it entirely, which got me thinking... what’s the actual playbook here? I'm curious about the specific criteria they use to decide whether to just lock a thread or go ahead and delete an appeal from existence altogether.

The way he complains and his choice of words are usually what trigger thread locks.
It’s possible that’s why it was taken down, but I suspect the moderator made a mistake. Since I didn't actually see the thread, I can't say for sure what happened, so I won't speculate too much.

The last thing I caught in that thread was someone asking if he’d finally managed to snag a partial payout from Lowe's.
I have to admit, I was dying to see how that would play out—just sitting there waiting for the response—but then, poof! The whole thread vanished, and so did he. 😁

Most threads get nuked because they just don't follow the house rules. It’s usually one of three things: someone’s being outright offensive, they're just looking for a fight, or—my personal favorite—a user isn't actually complaining about their ban, they're just trying to find a loophole to cut their suspension short. That's definitely not what this place is for.

Basically the most common type of post.

The content was pretty problematic; he started getting really nasty and insulting, so thankfully, it was wiped.

Any idea why this thread got nuked: "Why were my posts deleted?"?

Gregory Thomas said:Why did they delete this thread: "Why were my posts removed" ?

Because it was started by a burner account used by someone who’s already banned.

Thanks.
Is there any way for someone using a banned user's alt account to actually join the conversation? And what's the deal with how you appeal if they keep nuking the threads where you're trying to file a complaint?

Is there any way for a banned user to jump back into a discussion using a clone account? Also, what’s the protocol for appealing if their threads about making an appeal keep getting nuked?

Nope, not happening.

If those threads got deleted, it's because they weren't playing by the rules when they tried to complain.

Daniel Ward87 said:Nope, doesn't exist.

If they got wiped, it just means someone flagged them for being out of line.

Thanks for the heads up, everyone.

P.S.
It might be worth giving a permanent ban victim some pointers on how to get back in the game, even if it's just on a few specific subforums.

Well, it must have been pretty extreme then, because if you look at the ban appeals section, there are hundreds of complaints involving all sorts of insults—cases that were reopened multiple times despite warnings and lectures... yet those weren't deleted.

Maybe I just missed the specific post, because his appeal seemed fine. It was just like what happened with Ant recently; one minute it’s a perfectly normal question about hiking permits in the Forest, and then, suddenly green, they're gone. 🤣

If there isn't a rule against asking, can anyone shed light on what kind of ban he actually got? :just curious: 😁

I can’t quite wrap my head around why they scrubbed it—I assume he lashed out after we all caught wind of it, which, frankly, is just embarrassing for him. If someone posts something truly revolting, you just shut them down (delete those disgusting comments if they were actually there) and move on. 🤷
Leaving it visible serves a purpose; otherwise, people look at the situation, think absolutely nothing happened, and are left standing there with a massive question mark over their heads.

graniteridge6 said:I honestly don't get why they wiped it. I'm guessing he started throwing insults after we all saw it, but that’s just on him. You lock the thread—delete the truly disgusting posts if you have to—and move on. 🤷
If you leave his mess visible, people walk away thinking it wasn't even that big of a deal, leaving them scratching their heads wondering what the fuss was about.

Or better yet, don't delete anything at all. Just lock the thread so everyone can see exactly what went down and why someone got banned. It keeps things transparent. Take that guy "Old Man Banjo," for instance. He opened five or six different threads right after getting locked, hurling insults and threats left and right... yet not a single one of his complaints was ever scrubbed, even after he dragged things all the way to the Supreme Court. 🤷

I’m certain it wasn't deleted without cause.
The mods know the difference between deleting a thread and just locking it. It’s probably not appropriate to leave a thread full of massive insults sitting there just locked, because other users will see it and think they can keep going...

Yeah, it definitely was. Look, we just don't want that kind of content cluttering up this forum, and honestly, there's no need to broadcast the specific reasons why someone gets banned or why their posts get scrubbed—that's enough for the user involved and the admin team to handle privately.

I actually think it would be perfectly fine for this community if we could see what kind of ban a random user is serving and how long it lasts—without digging into anyone's private business or exposing the specific reasons behind the strikes and deleted posts. Just a simple readout: the duration of the ban and the number of points that triggered it. Nothing more.

By the way, your old avatar was way better. It actually made you look a bit more approachable, which helped soften that whole "strict administrator" vibe you've got going on. This new one? It just looks a little grotesque to me. 😁

Having spent some time reading through the posts by Green Mountain Man, as well as observing the intensely hostile and derogatory reactions following his ban, I am firmly of the opinion that his removal from the community was entirely warranted.

Bans, partial deletions, and thread removals occur periodically, and both moderators and administrators act based on very legitimate justifications. We remove content that is overtly abusive or insulting—a standard that shouldn't require any justification or lengthy explanation to our community members, particularly those who aren't directly involved in the conflict, which in this specific instance, describes you perfectly.

I find myself somewhat perplexed by your motivation for questioning this particular ban, but quite frankly, it was justified. The user in question understands exactly why they were banned and why the topic was pulled; however, there is no obligation to provide you with a granular breakdown of the situation, nor do I see any necessity in opening a new discussion thread over it. Since you have already been receiving answers for days now, there really is no need to continue playing detective.

Look, I can probably explain why people are (semi)interested in this specific ban or whatever you want to call it.
Since this forum functions as a bit of a community—where we cross paths with the same regulars almost every single day—it’s only natural for people to be curious when a member just suddenly "vanishes" into thin air.
It’s like if my annoying neighbor Peter suddenly moved out without a word; I’d naturally wonder what happened to him.

I’m not claiming he got banned unfairly—honestly, I don't think JFK's side is even questioning whether the ban was warranted. I know his posting style very well, and I truly believe he deserved everything that came his way. However, if his thread on the FBI site had remained—even if just for a decent portion of users—and there had been an admin post in red text stating that the offensive content was removed and the topic closed, everyone would have understood the situation, and this whole discussion wouldn't even exist.
I’m not trying to lecture anyone on how they should have handled things; I’m simply speaking from the perspective of someone who noticed that our pesky neighbor Peter has gone missing without a trace.

(And just to be clear, this isn't a debate about whether the ban was right, at least not from my end—and I suspect JFK doesn't see it that way either; I certainly don't doubt the legitimacy of the ban.)

Honestly, I'm sick of posts like yours.

Personally, I'm convinced it was deleted for no reason. It seems like the only thing this admin team knows how to do is push people around, insult them, humiliate them, and play God...
They lock out and delete anyone they don't like, and if you want to know how to get on their bad side, just ask the admins.

Just look at the sheer arrogance in the posts from rustydrifter10 and Alex. They think they’re looking down from some high altitude deciding what users should and shouldn't be allowed to know.

Greenlander's thread wasn't "full of massive insults." If you want to see threads full of actual insults, go check the corner—they're locked but still there. I don't give a damn what other users think; these threads get pulled as an act of spite.

There’s still a thread in the corner (and nobody seems to care) from my buddy T. G., which features the legendary phrase I'll use to wrap this up:

"now I'll just settle my miserable ass into the smooth throat of the forum police"
