What was the first band you truly loved?

My first band was actually a trio.
As a five or six-year-old kid, I always found myself gravitating toward more complex melodies and layered lyrics rather than just simple, one-note tunes.

on topic: if I'm digging back into my early childhood, it’s probably The Beatles—nothing more kid-friendly than those Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da tunes (even if we didn't catch the 😁 back then). Once I got a bit older, it was The Ramones. People overused the "end of the century" cliché way too much. 😉

The Doors... my first and only true love. I’ve scrolled through so many threads in the 'The Doors' discussion where people claim they're just a band for teenagers—something you "grow out of" once you hit adulthood. I don't get it. I started listening to them when I was sixteen, and here I am, four years later, still getting the same rush from their tracks as I did on day one. And honestly? My head is perfectly fine. I'm not some erratic kid acting on whims; those impulses ended back in middle school. They just never get old, even if their run was tragically short without Jim Morrison... I just can't wrap my head around how something you genuinely love can supposedly expire just because you've aged.

Throughout my entire life spent listening to music, there have really only been a couple of acts that truly left a mark on me: The Gaslight Anthem and the duo Horrible Crowes, primarily because they both center around that incredible human connection found in Brian Fallon...

Their tracks are pure soul food, especially when they go acoustic; honestly, just give them a listen, you won't regret it...

Back when I was younger—I mean, back when I actually started taking music seriously during those early middle school years... my rotation was pretty much stuck on Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Guns N' Roses.
Bratić used to constantly nag me about listening to The Beatles or Led Zeppelin instead, but honestly, his taste just never really clicked with me, lol.

U2. 🙂 I was only five years old when my old man bought me one of their albums. 🙂 That was the moment things actually got serious for me—music finally clicked, and U2 was the catalyst. 🙂 Thanks, Dad. 🙂

Dream Theater

Back in '85, I picked up Plavi Orkestar’s Soldatski Bal LP.
I remember catching Suad on my neighbor's TV back then, and honestly, music has been my whole world ever since. I think it was Christmas around '86 or '87—I got a tape of Smrt Fašizmu under the tree, probably the best gift I ever received. 🙂Even after I spent years diving deep into old-school crust, death metal, and thrash, I still find myself spinning Plavi Orkestar. Those first two LPs are absolute classics to this day.

The Ramones, Psihomodo, Zabranjeno pušenje... I still have such fond memories of Zabranjeno pušenje, especially that Fildžan album from back in '97 or '98. I love all of them. I think The Ramones actually said once: To change is actually to regress 🙂

Nowadays, though, when I'm digging through my CD collection, the first names I see are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, RATM, Tame Impala, The Replacements, MBV, and Gorillaz... plus a massive, massive pile of other stuff.
I guess there's no denying it—my taste has definitely evolved.🤣

I watched this clip on TV about promoting non-violence among kids, and the background track was Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. I didn't even hesitate—I went straight to their discography and binged everything they had.
Honestly, my life felt like it shifted after that. Okay, maybe not literally, but at least my taste in music finally stopped being trash...

But once high school hit, I drifted toward metal, so I don't really listen to RHCP anymore. Still, I have fond memories of that phase 🙂
