Hey there, fellow horror fans and everyone hanging out on the forums. 😁

IMDb So, we’re teaming up with Paramount Pictures to give you guys a shot at winning some DVDs of absolute horror classics. I mean, we're talking about stuff that actually holds up, right? Like, you've got the original Carrie from '76, which, honestly, still hits just as hard today as it did back then—it's basically always on some top ten list somewhere. Then there's the heavy hitters like Black Swan, Shutter, One Missed Call, and even that Hopkins flick, The Rite. It's a pretty solid lineup, I guess, if you're into that kind of thing.

So, look, if you want a shot at winning, all you really have to do is get one horror movie review over to us by April 25th—just pick whatever flick you feel like reviewing, I guess—and then five of the luckiest people out there are gonna walk away with a horror movie on DVD.

• So, I was thinking about Carrie from '76 again, and honestly, man, it’s just one of those movies that stays with you, you know? It’s heavy. Like, really heavy. I guess if you haven't seen it, you're seriously missing out on a total masterpiece of psychological tension. It's not just some cheap jump-scare flick; it’s actually deeply unsettling because of how much it gets under your skin. I mean, looking back at it through the lens of something like IMDb, you can see why people still obsess over it decades later. It’s just... intense. Maybe it's the way it handles that whole feeling of being an outsider, or maybe it's just the sheer chaos of the ending, but either way, it hits hard. I don't know, I could ramble about this for hours, but yeah, it's a classic for a reason.

Look, they aren't bad movies. I haven't sat down with Black Swan yet, and since Shutter is just an American remake anyway, I skipped it—plus, I still haven't gotten around to anything by Hopkins.
Honestly, Carrie and One Missed Call are top-tier.

I watched that Shutter remake too, but honestly? The original blows it out of the water. Hopkins is a legend in his own right, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Black Swan lately. Now that I've seen this One Missed Call remake, I’m telling you—just go straight to the original Chakushin truth. It's way better.

Carrie is definitely one of those cult horror hits that’s actually worth sitting through—I feel like most people have already seen it, but it wouldn't hurt to have it in your DVD collection, I suppose. 😁
There's a remake coming out in November too, and I'm kind of curious to see if it actually holds up to the original quality or if it's just going to be a dud.😉

True, Black Swan is excellent and definitely has those horror elements, even if it leans more toward mystery, so I guess it fits the category somehow. I actually rewatched it the other day and Natalie Portman is just incredible.

Actually, some reviewer was checking out The Rite the other day and posted a review, so maybe give The Rite / Black Swan (2011) a look.

I’m jumping in on this with so much hype, and honestly, I’m crossing my fingers that I might actually snag a prize, though at the end of the day, just being part of the fun is what matters, right?

I’m gonna take my sweet time over the next day or two to sit down and craft a properly terrifying & bloody horror review for you guys.

The prizes look awesome, but there's one that really stands out as a total winner—"Carrie" 😱
"The Rite" is actually the one movie I haven't checked out yet. And yeah, you're totally right about "Black Swan"—it isn't strictly a horror flick, but it definitely leans into those creepy, unsettling vibes.

Man, you just reminded me of something I totally missed in that first post, but basically, the author of the top review gets to pick one out of the five movies, then the winner of the second review picks from the remaining four, the third one takes one from the three left, and so on...

Honestly, we could probably start a massive debate right now and end up drifting way off topic 😁. I guess you either dig a certain role or you don't, simple as that. It’s not like it’s my absolute favorite thing ever, but man, it was pretty solid 🙂

This is hands down the worst giveaway I've seen since someone offered a two-way trip to Chernobyl as the grand prize.

Look, I don't mean to be rude, but I think the guy's got a point... Aside from Carrie, most of this stuff is basically the cinematic equivalent of cheap snacks you grab at Walmart for a couple of bucks—and honestly, they aren't even great movies. I've only actually sat through The Rite and Black Swan, which were mediocre at best, but the other two look pretty rough to me. That seems to be the trend with most horror remakes from the last decade or so, right? Like, if we were talking about something from the Hammer library, or maybe a classic from Cronenberg, Gordon, Hooper, Dekker, Craven, Romero, Argento, Bava, or Fulci... now *that* would be something. Just a suggestion for future giveaways, hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here. 😉

Of course, I realize it’s a lot harder for the organizers to track down those kinds of titles 😢... I'm not even sure how many of those old classics are even available on DVD here in the States (assuming we can only give away films with English subtitles; I know public libraries, for instance, aren't allowed to stock anything without them, though I'm not sure if that rule applies to giveaway prizes...)

I’m just saying, horror fans usually actually want to engage with this kind of stuff rather than just grabbing a movie and calling it a day. It seems like most people wrap up their reviews by basically begging to have 😁 included if they make the shortlist, though I did see a few folks who don't even care about the actual film—they just sent in enough content just to say they participated, I guess.
