Besides, if they push your surgery date back by just a few days, I don't see it being such a massive ordeal—you could likely manage those extra couple of days before you finally go under.
Ultimately, being physically ready for the procedure matters much more than whether or not you have to endure breathing the way you have been all these years for another two or three days.

I'm honestly just asking because I’m trying to figure out how much school I’ll miss. It’s scheduled for the Monday right before Easter, which worked out perfectly for me, but if they move it, I’ll end up missing even more classes, so that's my main concern.
I suppose I'll just have to see what my doctor has to say about it.

I honestly lost it today when I realized my surgery scheduled for March 30th might clash with my period—my cycle is a bit wonky lately and since mine lasts forever, it’s looking like a total overlap. If that actually happens, will they just push the whole thing back until it's over, or what? My heart is racing and I can barely breathe because my left nostril is basically non-existent at this point... I'm just totally stuffed up through my mouth too, and I seriously cannot deal with this anymore.
How long do people usually stay in the hospital, and how much downtime is needed—like, staying indoors and all that? I've heard so many different stories from people, and I'm trying to plan around my college classes and missing school... specifically regarding the public hospital in Miami, not a private clinic..

So, I was there recently, and on the day I checked in, the head nurse came by specifically to note down when my last period started. Even the surgeon mentioned beforehand that they wouldn't operate while you're on your cycle. You should definitely give them a heads-up early so they know—maybe they can swap you with someone else on the schedule...
They kept me for 5 days, though you might get out after 4 if everything looks good.
But man, I didn't even leave my house for almost a month after that—I was incredibly swollen.👎

Hey everyone.
Has anyone actually noticed their nose looking larger after surgery than it did before they went under the knife?

Hi everyone 🙂 I’m looking into getting rhinoplasty, but after wading through endless threads on this forum, I’ve reached a point of total confusion. Since I’m currently based in San Diego, I’m trying to narrow down my options... should I go with John Smith, Robert Miller, or Michael Johnson? I would truly appreciate any insight or help you can offer 😉

Has anyone actually ended up with a bigger nose after surgery than they had before?...

Are you asking if someone tried to get an augmentation but it backfired... or if it just somehow looks larger by accident? 🤔

Hello,

I recently underwent a septoplasty. The packing was removed two days ago, so I am hoping to hear about your experiences regarding the post-op recovery process. My nose feels quite congested, and I have been using saline rinses; I've noticed a fair amount of blood mixed with saliva, which I assume is simply because the surgical sites are still healing.

Thanks, 😉

I have a deviated septum. I’m not really looking to get surgery right now, though—maybe I never will. It doesn't bother me that much. Even Alan Prost didn't go under the knife to fix his nose.

A deviated septum doesn't actually change how a nose looks; it's simply the internal wall dividing the nasal passages. In my experience, my nose looked exactly the same before and after the procedure—just "normal."

In my case, they kept me for five days, though you can sometimes head home after four if everything looks good.
Honestly, though, I hadn't even stepped foot outside my house for nearly a month because the swelling was just so intense.👎

😢
I'm really not sure; my doctor mentioned that if it happens, they would simply push my procedure back a few days once I arrive at the hospital, but you've certainly made me a bit anxious with that story about not leaving the house for a whole month...

But honestly, I hadn't even stepped foot outside my house for nearly a month; the swelling was just unbearable 👎

I've been clicking through these threads for ages, but I can't find any specific info regarding Miami. I'm scheduled for a septoplasty this November, so I'm naturally anxious to know everything... which surgeon did you have, how was the recovery, the pain levels, and are you actually satisfied with the results? Feel free to send a private message if that's easier...

Hello... I am now six months post-op. The tip remains quite firm, though I am hopeful that this sensation will subside soon. Additionally, there is still a small lump on my left side from the initial stage; lately, it has started to feel somewhat bothersome. I am interested to know if anyone here has experienced any setbacks or worsening symptoms after the six-month mark? I would be very grateful for your insights. 🙂

darkgardener9 said:hey... it's been 6 months since my surgery.. the tip is still really hard and I'm just hoping it softens up soon -.- plus there's this little bump on the left side from the start, but now it feels like it's actually bothering me. wondering if anyone here has dealt with things getting worse after the six-month mark? would love some insight 🙂

Look, any bumps or hard spots you see after the swelling goes down from the mold are gonna stay there. It's just tissue swelling, and the whole nose looks puffy proportionally... once the swelling fades, those bumps just become more obvious. Eventually, you're just left with whatever unevenness shows up when the skin settles back down and gets thin again

Hey, it's me again... 😁

So, I'm looking for some intel from anyone who's actually gone through a septoplasty. How long am I stuck in the hospital after the surgery? And how many days until the follow-up to get those nasty tampons pulled out? I'm heading over to Mayo Clinic, but I'm not even local to NYC...

You basically just hang out in NYC the whole time. You spend a week in the hospital, they take the swabs out on day seven, and then you’ve got your first follow-up in a month.
That's how it went for me when I was admitted.

I have no idea what kind of recovery journey you're looking at, but I had the open technique done. Plus, let's be real, I already have thicker skin to begin with. On top of that, they tucked something into the tip for extra stability—whatever the medical term is for that 😁—so maybe that's why everything felt so swollen all at once? Even four months down the road, I've still got a little bit of swelling left over...

Quick question for the group. So, I just finished my blood and urine tests, and now I’m heading in to hand everything over to the anesthesiologist. My bloodwork looks solid, but the urine analysis shows a slight inflammation. How much of a dealbreaker is that going to be for the surgery?

That was my experience when I had to go in... just sitting there waiting.

Can anyone who's actually dealt with a deviated septum recently weigh in here? Like, can someone confirm if this is actually how it goes down or if I'm just losing my mind? 😁

It took me about 10 to 12 days.
