So, when should I actually start doing the nasal rinses?

It’s been like five and a half days since the surgery... honestly, you should probably go ahead and rinse it.

Look, the reason your doctor might be pushing back is probably just because they’re worried about infection risks. They can't exactly guarantee that any saline solution you're using outside of a clinic is actually sterile... and doctors hate that uncertainty. But honestly? Your cuts aren't even fresh anymore. The skin has already started to seal up and form barriers. As long as you're being super careful about hygiene—like, grab a brand new bottle of saline from CVS or Walgreens and make sure it's fresh—there's really no reason why you can't rinse them out...

So, back when I was in the hospital right after they pulled my tampons out, they actually brought me a bottle of saline and kept nagging me about how often I needed to rinse. They were dead serious—told me if I didn't keep things moist, I'd end up with these nasty crusties. And let me tell you, those things are a total nightmare when the doctor has to go in and clean them out. I stuck to the routine religiously, and honestly, thank God, because I didn't deal with any issues or infections at all. Even my doctor suggested I could just whip some up at home by mixing 1-2 teaspoons of salt into a liter of boiled water. But hey, anyone can just grab some at a CVS or Walgreens; it’s not like it breaks the bank.

I almost totally blanked on this, but the nurses also had me using these drops every single day—just three drops at a time. It was weirdly similar to eye drops or something from Microsoft... I can't remember the exact name, but I think it was some kind of preventative stuff to stop inflammation or whatever...

So, a friend was telling me about her doctor's advice—apparently, he prescribed some chloramphenicol eye ointment, which is both an antibiotic and a corticosteroid, all just for prevention...
they actually put Maxidex on you
I know here in the States, they almost always insist on using an antibiotic cream (I actually went ahead and picked up some Betrion myself, though he didn't say anything about it specifically...)

Maxitrol.

You really don't need to overthink it—just let the ointment circulate and soak in properly.
The only exception is if someone happens to be allergic; in that case, using a corticosteroid spray is a much better way to go.

Honestly, don't sweat it too much—you just gotta let that mucus do its thing and circulate.
The only exception is if you're dealing with an allergy; then yeah, a cortisone spray is probably your best bet.

You're totally spot on about the Maxitrol!
My doctor actually wrote me a prescription for it so I could use it at home.
In my opinion, surgeons usually give advice based on the specific patient and what they actually need. So, I'd say recommending saline is pretty much universal since it won't hurt anyone. Plus, it keeps everything moist so you don't get that annoying dry, tight feeling while you're waiting for the stitches to dissolve and the lining to heal up.

So, I’ve finally (I think!) started up with the nasal rinsing
How often am I actually supposed to be doing this? I'm guessing the more frequent, the better—like, just trying to keep the mucosa nice and hydrated? Or am I totally off base here?
Honestly, my breathing isn't great right now. I know it's way too early for things to feel normal and that the swelling is still a huge factor, but still...
Right now, I’m just using a saline spray about every hour or so, basically whenever it feels necessary
But here's what's really bugging me: is it possible that those crusties I'm seeing are actually just scabs rather than the mucosa itself? (It's day 8 post-op, by the way.)
And if they are scabs, do they just... fall off on their own from all the rinsing? Or does the doctor usually have to step in and clear them out manually?

If those scabs start peeling away on their own, just let them be—if you force it, you’re just going to end up damaging the tissue again. Just leave them alone and let the body do its thing; the moisture will naturally be absorbed by the rest of the mucous membrane.

The more often this happens, the better you'll understand it—at the end of the day, it all comes down to the basic principles of how water circulates in nature.

Thanks... I’m just a little worried about the possibility of the doctor "cleaning out" those scabs next week...
I honestly have a gut feeling that might be what happens
I actually have another question too: since I had an open rhinoplasty with that incision on my columella, there's this tiny bit of "granulation tissue" left right by the stitch in one nostril...
How do doctors usually view stuff like that? Do they just tell you it's fine, or what?

I’m looking to connect with anyone who had a bad experience with Dr. Ostojić's surgeries. Please shoot me a private message so we can compare notes and talk about what happened.

Hey guys!

It’s been 10 days since my surgery and I haven't had any bruising, no scabbing, and honestly, breathing has been totally fine since day five. I haven't even had any pain, so I haven't needed to rinse with saline or anything. I've just been using some antibiotic ointment with a Q-tip twice a day, and there isn't even any mucus or blood on the tip anymore—everything looks super clean and clear.

But, uh... like I was told, the root and the tip are still a bit swollen and feel tight, though nothing too crazy. Also, they mentioned I should be doing lymphatic drainage on my cheeks every day, and I was wondering if I can just do that at home or if it's strictly something you have to go to a med spa for? I live way out in the Appalachian Mountains🙂 where stuff like that doesn't really exist, so I'd actually have to drive quite a bit. Is it even worth the trip, or should I just wait for the swelling to go down on its own?

Plus... I was told it takes some time for everything to settle into place... I guess I'm not sure if that applies to the tip, because it feels like it's still pulling slightly to one side. From the profile view, it looks perfect, and even with the swelling, I really liked how it looked as soon as they took the mold off. There aren't any asymmetries left, everything looks straight and good.

I mean, I'm out here living way up in the Appalachian Mountains, so traveling to some fancy clinic isn't exactly easy...🙂 Man, I don't even know if that kind of stuff is available here... she'd probably have to fly halfway across the country just to find it. Is it actually worth the trip though? Or should I just sit tight and wait for everything to blow over on its own?...

Go look up that Toyota face massage on YouTube... seriously. Just do it twice a day. I’ve been testing it out myself and honestly? It actually works... turns out it's legit. 🙂

I can't actually watch YouTube videos directly through this interface... if you want me to rewrite or transform the content from that link, just paste the transcript or give me a detailed breakdown of what happens in the video! Once I have the text, I'll get to work turning it into my own unique, messy, and highly opinionated take... standing by...

I... I don't even know where to start with this one. Just... wow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=syxMAETLjFk

Look, this is your final warning regarding mentioning this doctor in a negative light on this thread. One more post like this and you aren't just getting a warning card—you're getting a long-term ban. Other members have already deleted your posts, sent you warnings, and reached out privately asking you to stop. This is it. If I see one more post where you're attacking him, you're gone.

Constructive criticism and praise are both fine here, but what you're doing isn't "criticism"—it's just a vendetta. Deal with it however you want. Sue him, report him to the medical board, call the DA, the FBI, or even the White House for all I care. I don't give a damn what you do, but you will stop targeting him on this specific thread. You already said you weren't happy and that he made you dizzy. People read it. You don't need to act like a broken record.

Also, remember that everything you post on Reddit can be used against you in court. Watch your mouth so you don't end up facing a defamation lawsuit if you can't actually back up these claims with proof. 😉

I think I'll give those online massage techniques a shot and just see how it goes. I'm probably gonna avoid the upper section from the base down to about the middle, though, since that spot is still feeling a little tender to the touch... so I definitely won't be pressing too hard. Thx!

I can't recall the exact details, but if I remember right, you don't actually touch the nose itself during a Toyota massage; after getting a rhinoplasty, you should absolutely avoid that area. Just some indirect lymphatic drainage should do the trick perfectly enough.

Hey, thanks 🙂 things are looking up, way better now. My nose is finally narrower and has that nice, defined shape I wanted 😁 if my septum just stays stable, I’ll be over the moon! 🙂

I looked into that this morning, so I guess it'll be fine.
Thanks again!

So, did any of you guys actually use those nose plasters during the first few weeks after surgery? I'm talking about something like this:

It’s been ten days since my surgery and honestly? Everything is going smooth as silk. No bruising, no scabbing, nothing. I felt like I could breathe perfectly again by day five, and the weirdest part is that I haven't even dealt with any pain—not even a little bit. I haven't even had to mess around with saline rinses. Just using some antibiotic ointment twice a day with a Q-tip, and that's it. There isn't even any mucus or blood on the swab anymore. It’s all just totally clean and clear.

So... here's the deal. I was told that both my roots and the tips are all swollen and tight, but honestly, nothing too crazy. They also told me I need to do lymphatic drainage on my cheeks every single day. Now, I'm sitting here wondering—can I actually pull this off at home, or is this strictly something you have to go to a high-end spa for? Because, let's be real, I live way out in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.🙂 Man, where would I even find something like that around here? I’d probably have to hop on a plane just to track it down. Is it actually worth the trip, though? Or should I just sit tight and wait for the whole thing to blow over on its own?

Plus... I was told everything just needs some time to settle into place. Honestly, I’m not even sure if they mean that regarding the tip—I still feel like it’s pulling slightly to one side. But looking at my profile? It looks perfect. Even with the swelling, I absolutely loved how it looked the second they took the mold off. The asymmetry is totally gone now, too; everything is straight and looks super natural.

Hey, silverorca6, who did you go to for your surgery?
