Joshua Murphy7 said:They told me I’d be under general anesthesia at Mount Sinai too. Since the procedure is further down, they have to make an open incision, which means more work for the surgeon. They don't recommend local anesthesia for heavy lifting like this. Apparently, all those private clinics just do everything under local...

Anyway, I went to a private clinic myself and they used general too. 🙂

Thanks so much! :* How long did it take you guys to wrap up all the testing before the surgery?
Roughly how long was the actual procedure, and what was your experience like with general anesthesia?

how long was the procedure itself and what's your take on general anesthesia?

I went private for my tests, so it was fast. Otherwise, at my local clinic, bloodwork is ready by day two and EKG is instant. 🙂
Can't give you an exact surgical time, but let's say it was around noon or 12:30. I was waking up from anesthesia around 3:30. Honestly, I didn't wake up on my own—they had to wake me. That was my only issue. Noticed the other patients were waking up fine on their own. 🤷
Experiences... nothing. It's like it never happened. They tell you someone needs to stay with you the first night because you might vomit or get dizzy, but for me, it wasn't an issue. 👍

I had my nose surgery 16 days ago—it wasn't just cosmetic; I had functional issues too, so the doctor worked on smoothing out the bumpiness. Once they took off the splint and the tape a few days ago, everything looked perfectly straight... but now, suddenly, that same old bump has reappeared..!? I realize everything is still incredibly fresh and the swelling is intense, but I’m honestly spiraling into a bit of a panic because it looks even worse than it did before.
Is it actually possible for a hump to return that quickly, or am I just looking at localized swelling right on that spot?? 🙂

Megan Harris35 said:I opted for private testing, so everything was wrapped up pretty quickly. Normally, though, my blood work results show up on my Medicare portal by the second day, and you get the EKG results immediately. 🙂
As for the surgery duration, I can't give you an exact number, but let's say it was around noon or 12:30. I started coming out of anesthesia around 3:30, though I didn't really wake up on my own—the staff had to assist me. That was the only real issue for me; I noticed most of the other patients were waking up naturally. 🤷
Regarding the recovery experience... nothing. It felt like nothing even happened. They tell you that you absolutely need someone staying with you the first night because you might deal with nausea or dizziness, but honestly, I didn't have any issues, so 👍

Thanks, Megan Harris35! What did they actually do to your nose? They told me they’d be breaking the bone to straighten out the hump.

Well, I finally scored an appointment with Dr. Glušac. Fingers crossed I’ll be joining the ranks of the satisfied patients here by the end of it. 🙂 Once it reaches the surgery stage, I’ll make sure to post a full breakdown of how everything went.

Since we couldn't play phone tag at any decent hour—partly due to my job and partly because of his schedule—we ended up setting everything up via email. I did try asking about his consultation fees, but he dodged the question. So, if any of you have actually sat in his office for a consult, could you please let me know what the damage usually is? 🙂 Thanks.

Since the doctor and I simply could not find a decent time to connect via telephone—partly due to my work schedule and partly due to his own busy practice—we ended up arranging the consultation through email. Even though I specifically inquired about his consultation fees, he didn't provide an answer; therefore, I am turning to all of you who have already sat in his office for a consultation, please, I beg of you, help me out with some concrete information 🙂 Thank you.

He doesn't charge for consultations.

Nor does he charge for any follow-up exams after the surgery.

Thanks. Honestly, that doctor sounds a little too good to be true. 😁

My own experience with him has been nothing short of excellent, though I recognize there are certainly those who haven't had the same luck—but then again, that's the reality with any specialist dealing with this subject matter.

If you want my advice, just listen to your gut.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I’ve already scheduled my surgery—everything is set—for a nasal pyramid reconstruction. My surgeon is Dejan Tomljenović over at Mount Sinai Hospital. Has anyone here worked with him before, or does anyone have any insight on his work? 😁Thanks

I actually have an appointment scheduled with Davor Džepina soon; I decided to reach out to him based on a strong recommendation, though I honestly can't say much about his style or how he compares to the rest of the staff yet—I'm really not in a position to be of much help just yet.
Back when I was scouring various online forums asking for advice about my own physician, I remember people chiming in saying he was a fantastic choice and all that kind of thing...

Hey there,

So, I’m looking into getting nose surgery. My main goal is fixing a deviated septum, but since I'd already be going under the knife, I was thinking about doing some cosmetic work at the same time. Does anyone know if Medicare would cover any of this? For those of you who've actually done it, which surgeon did you end up liking? I'm mostly hoping to slim down my profile a bit, but do you think they'd ever throw in a tip job for free?

Hey everyone—I've got surgery scheduled for August 12th, which means I’m exactly two weeks out. I wanted to ask if any smokers here managed to quit entirely during those final two weeks before the procedure? Honestly, that's going to be my biggest hurdle, even though this surgery is absolutely vital for me. I've already stocked up on peppermint gum and a massive stash of hard candies—fingers crossed that'll help me get through without reaching for a cigarette.
The other thing on my mind is whether it's actually standard to head home the very same day. My doctor mentioned I'd just be under observation for a few hours and then cleared to go.

I don't smoke myself, but from what I know, you're supposed to stop so the healing process goes smoother and all that. As for heading home the same day—yeah, that's totally normal. I'm guessing that means you won't be under general anesthesia, so if everything goes according to plan, there shouldn't be any reason to keep you overnight. 🙂

Quick question for anyone here who’s gone under general anesthesia for rhinoplasty: did they make you do an enema before the surgery?

Hey everyone! Quick question for anyone who’s been over at the Mayo Clinic seeing the ENT, Marcel Marjanović Kavanagh. Has anyone actually worked with him before? So, I had two surgeries about four years back—septum and sinuses—with Dr. Rank Mladin, but apparently he’s retired from doing procedures or isn't taking new patients anymore... at least that's what the nurse told me. Now I’m looking at a third one (septal perforation and removing part of a turbinate), but I’m totally in the dark about Dr. Marcel and what the whole procedure is even like. If you've been through it, please let me know! 🙂 Or, if you have a different top-tier ENT in Washington, D.C. that you swear by, hit me up. Thanks! 🙂

Maybe try looking for Dr. Jurlin; most patients seem to praise him.🙂

It’s most likely an implantation of a silicone button, but—honestly—that is something you really ought to clarify during your consultation.
