Ashley Ramos78 said:Official stats say about two out of every thousand patients wake up mid-surgery.

And honestly, almost all those lucky ones end up in psych wards—plus there's a super high suicide rate among them too... scary stuff.

That’s why you really have to double-check everything—scrutinize the surgeon's track record, look at the anesthesiologist's experience, and just make sure the communication is solid. If something feels off or even slightly sketchy, it's way better to just run for the hills than to let people like that touch you with a scalpel.

So yeah, one or two percent is technically a small number, like I mentioned before.
But seriously, you definitely want to be 100% sure about your doctors. 👍

I’ve finally made up my mind that I want to go through with it because the hump on my nose really bothers me. I am looking for recommendations for private clinics, and what is weighing on my mind most of all is that incision above the upper lip. I saw that they do that when using the closed technique... I’m wondering if they always have to make that cut inside the lip, regardless of the situation? Also, is four weeks after the operation enough time to get back to my responsibilities like college, work, and everything else?

I underwent the closed technique myself, and they didn't make any incision above my upper lip at all. Honestly, I wouldn't have allowed it even if they tried, nor can I see any reason why such a thing would be necessary.

Four weeks should be more than enough time to recover properly.

This image shows the only real difference when it comes to visible scarring. Other than that, the open technique definitely has its perks—like better visibility and precision during the procedure, which makes it a better call for those more "complicated" cases...

Actually, the open technique is way more precise than the closed one. You get a much clearer view of everything, which lets you work wonders starting right from the nasal passages. In fact, American ENT specialists deserve a huge amount of credit for spearheading its global revitalization back in the '80s.

Bokk, so I recently had my initial consultation... The doctor confirmed everything I suspected, with one exception: the cartilage on one side of my nose is shaped differently due to an impact I took a few years ago (one side is convex while the other is concave). He mentioned that this specific asymmetry is somewhat more difficult to correct, particularly when using a closed technique :/ As for the humps, those can be easily addressed. I am scheduled for imaging on August 21st, and then we will finalize the plan. 🙂

I'm weighing my options regarding surgery, but my situation is a bit unusual. My left nostril looks totally fine, but when I check my right profile, it feels like there's just not enough skin coverage there—I don't really know how else to put it. I’m not looking for a full-blown traditional rhinoplasty. Is there any way to address just that one specific side and fix the asymmetry?

I don't even know how to describe it properly. I really wouldn't want to go through a full-on traditional surgery though. Is it possible to just fix that one specific spot?

Of course it is, but honestly, I bet the price would be lower since the surgeon isn't having to mess with the whole nose... It's probably best to just book a consultation with whichever surgeon you're eyeing and talk it all out with them. 😉

Anyone know a decent surgeon over at Firulama in San Diego who’s actually cool to deal with for nose surgery? You can hit me up via pp if you have a lead.

Look, Mark Young10, just hang in there until you actually finish growing up. 😉
Basically, stay strong and be patient while you go through puberty. You're still developing—you're right at the start of that massive growth spurt and all those physical changes. Honestly, any surgeon would tell you the exact same thing. For now, focus on your mental health and building your confidence (don't let people get to you if they're giving you a hard time, which I assume happens at your age). Just hold on a little longer; you have plenty of time to address this "issue" later if that's what you decide to do. Things will settle down, but your intelligence and your health have to come first! 🙂

That’s just how I feel—I can't stand being in photos or anything like that... always overanalyzing everything... "Oh my god, look at that nose..." and so on. I'll probably be done with this whole thing in a year max, then I'm out.😉😠😢

That’s just how it feels for me... I hate taking pictures or anything... because people go, "OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THAT NOSE..." and all that crap. I figure if I wait maybe one more year max, then I'll go under the knife.😉😠😢

I totally get where you're coming from, and I know it really hurts, especially at the age you're at right now. But honestly, it's just not the time yet—please think about your health. Why rush into surgery, blow through all that cash, take on such a huge risk, and put that pressure on your parents? They probably wouldn't even feel okay agreeing to it since you're still a minor, and it's their kid on the line. Plus, you'd deal with the recovery pain only to potentially need a touch-up in a few years. It's not cheap, and it's definitely not easy, physically or mentally.

Maybe try working on your mindset a bit more (like I mentioned before) and learn how to shut down those shallow bullies with some class. It'll put them in their place. Trust me, they aren't any better looking or smarter than you, and they've got plenty of flaws too! Everyone has them, but attacking someone over their looks is just pathetic and mindless. They don't have anything else to say, so they pick on something you can't control—your nose is what it is, and you didn't choose it. On the flip side, they can actually control their own intelligence and behavior, but clearly, they aren't quite there yet. So, you've got plenty of ammunition to throw back at them 😉

In my opinion, it's way easier to learn how to stand up to that kind of teasing and hold your ground (which will actually help build your character for the future) than it is to throw several thousand dollars into the wind and gamble with your health. Later in life, when things are more stable and you're ready for surgery, if you still truly want it, go for it. But do it strictly for yourself, not for anyone else—remember that! 🙂

@Rachel Vaughn85/">@@Rachel Vaughn85 Thanks for everything, but I just can't do this—believe me. I'm only 14 right now... maybe when I hit 16, then we'll talk about surgery. There are plenty of stars out there who had nose jobs at 16, or even younger, like Zac Efron :&

You probably shouldn't use them as an example. If some celebrities are risking their health, that doesn't mean you have to follow suit. 🤷

I totally agree. But hey, if you want to go see a surgeon, pay for a consultation just to have them tell you the exact same thing, go for it. 🙂
I don't see anything wrong with that; if seeing a specialist gives you peace of mind, then by all means, get a professional opinion. 🙂
