Something weird is happening with my Seagate

You know that moment when you go to unplug a thumb drive and that little "Safely Remove Hardware" window pops up? Well, mine is acting super funky—it’s giving me the option to eject an "Eject WDC 5000AAKX-001CA0 ATA Device." Basically, it's asking if I want to unmount my actual hard drive 😲

I only caught onto this because even when nothing is plugged in, my taskbar icon in the bottom right corner keeps insisting there's a USB device attached. It's like my computer thinks it's constantly connected to something

Oh, and one more thing! Every single time I boot up, I get this split second where the screen goes black and white text flashes, saying stuff like "no hard disc detected." Then, out of nowhere, it just moves past it, macOS loads up, and everything works totally fine

I’d suggest opening up the case and just giving the Seagate cable a little nudge to make sure it's seated properly, or honestly, you might just want to swap it out for a new one entirely.

Have you checked if NVMe is enabled in your UEFI settings? If it is, then everything should be behaving "normally" since that's what allows for Plug and Play support. Also, did you happen to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver? That was exactly the hiccup I ran into when I first swapped in my SSD, and honestly, once I cleared that out, I don't think I could ever forget how much of a headache it saved me!

In the UEFI settings, the SATA controller is set to NVMe mode. Theoretically, those specs support Plug and Play for SATA devices—kind of like how an external drive works in practice—and the drivers are all installed correctly. Everything seems solid on that front. I handled the OS and driver setup myself, so don't worry, I'm not actually trying to yank the system drive out while it's running!

In the BIOS, the SATA controller is set to AHCI mode. On paper, that should support hot-swapping SATA devices quite well, especially for things like external drives. My drivers are all correctly installed, too—everything seems to be in order. I've handled the OS and driver setup myself, so don't worry, I'm definitely not trying to yank the system drive out while it's running!
