I'm running Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, so could you suggest a more entry-level graphics card? Since you mentioned I don't need anything too high-end, what would fit?
The real issue is that my computer keeps lagging whenever I try to work in those programs. Is that because of the processor? Sorry if that sounds like a silly question—I'm still pretty much a novice when it comes to the technical side of PC hardware...

Thanks for the tip, Benjamin King2. A few people have already pointed me in that direction, so I'm definitely leaning toward the HD 6670.

With that card, I shouldn't be sweating my 400W power supply, right?

Look, if you try running them both at once, your CPU is going to choke—it’ll start stuttering like crazy. Your RAM shouldn't be an issue, though. And honestly? Adding a second graphics card isn't going to change a thing in this scenario.

You should probably take a look at some Core 2 Quad processors on eBay—there are a few listed here: http://processormatch.intel.com/Comp...ardName=DG45ID

You should be able to snag one for somewhere around $6-$233.

With that card, I assume a 400W power supply should be sufficient?

I’m running an HD 6670 with a 400W unit myself. I don't recall the exact model—I bought it about two years ago—but I kept the same PSU when I built my current rig and haven't had any issues. Everything runs fine. It was probably something around $67 if I remember correctly, so it isn't exactly top-tier hardware, but it gets the job done.

Hey everyone!

I'm on the hunt for a new GPU.
Honestly, I’ve always been an AMD guy at heart, but if Nvidia has something better sitting there, I'm totally down to make the switch.

Here’s what I’m running right now:
CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K, 3700 MHz (18.5 x 200)
Motherboard - EVGA Z77
RAM - 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
GPU - Nvidia GTX 460, 1GB GDDR5
PSU - EVGA 700W

I usually play everything at 1080p.
My budget is roughly $150 to $220.
Right now, I'm eyeing the 7770 or the 6870, but I’d love to get some input from the pros here. If Nvidia can give me more bang for my buck in this price range, I'll jump ship in a heartbeat.

Thanks!

I've always been partial to AMD, but if Nvidia has something better out there, I'm open to that too.

My current setup is:
CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K, 3700 MHz (18.5 x 200)
Motherboard - EVGA Z77
System memory - 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
GPU - Nvidia GTX 460, 1GB GDDR5
PSU - Xilence 700W

I play at 1920x1080 resolution.
My budget is roughly $100 to $150.
Right now, I'm weighing up the 7770 versus the 6870, but I’d love some advice from the pros—and I'm willing to jump ship to Nvidia if they offer more bang for my buck.

Thanks.

The 6670 should actually pull less juice than that old x1950 you're running now—especially if you're currently using an extra PCI-e power connector for it.

If I can get a quick opinion here—are these actually better than a 6870? And if they are, which one should I pull the trigger on?
or maybe
Thanks!

Thanks.

The first one (GTX 560 Ti) is a bit faster, plus it has better cooling and a longer warranty. The second one (GTX 560) is pretty much on par with the HD 6870, I guess.😉

With that budget, I don't think you'll see a massive jump in performance over the GTX 460. You might need to stretch a little further if you want something noticeable:

I used to have this GeForce 7600 GT in my rig:
It wasn't exactly anything to write home about, but hey, it did the job for the games I played.
Once I finally retired it, I just popped in some ancient placeholder card just to get a display signal.
Now, I’m looking to upgrade to something top-tier,$167 🙄 but here’s the catch—it seems like there aren't many decent cards left for the AGP slot. Does anyone have any recommendations in this price range that wouldn't be a step down from my old 7600 GT?

You’re probably going to have to hit up Craigslist—honestly, any of those low-end cards sitting on shelves right now, like an HD 3450 or an Nvidia FX 5200, are actually a step down from what you’ve got. If you can swing about 200-$83, you should be able to hunt down something with some actual teeth—think along the lines of an x1950 or an Nvidia 7600 gt.

I recently swapped out an ATI Radeon x1950 256Mb for an HD 6670. If you actually want this old card, let me know because I was planning on tossing it anyway.

The card works fine.

Here's my email if you're interested:

She needs an AGP card, yours is clearly PCIe if you swapped it out for a 6670

It might be PCI, since I hooked up the 6670 just fine, same as the x1950.

I'll admit, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to PC hardware... lol

If anyone actually wants this x1950, shoot me an email. I don't need it anymore.

Also, if someone can help me out—I'm looking for a processor around $800...$333. Thinking about going new, but if buying used makes sense, let me know.

Dual core 2.60 GHz
ASUS P5G41T-M LX3 2
2 x 4GB DDR3
400W PSU
HD 6670 1 GB DDR5

Maybe a dual-core at 2.60 GHz? I guess that could work.
ASUS P5G41T-M LX3 2
Maybe two 4GB sticks of DDR3?
Maybe a 400W power supply would work.
The Radeon HD 6670 with 1 GB of DDR5.

I don't think it's worth picking up a used quad core; they just feel overpriced to me. I'd honestly rather save up a bit more cash and, once winter rolls around, grab a solid AM3+ motherboard paired with an AMD FX Vishera processor.

Which processor is it exactly? (you could probably just check CPU-Z or something)
