So, just like the title says: are you saving money?

Ever since I started working, I’ve always made it a point to set some cash aside. Even on a modest paycheck, I manage to tuck away a few hundred bucks, and whenever I get a raise, I just increase my savings rate.
Life—and advice from certain people I know—has taught me that you have to make some sacrifices if you want to build a cushion.

If an unexpected emergency pops up one month, I don't touch my savings. Instead, I cut back on things like grabbing coffee, smoking, or eating out every single day.
I was pretty naive at first, just letting my money sit in a standard checking account, until someone pointed out how much the government eats through taxes and interest. Now, I use a high-yield savings account and contribute to it every month.
I know the economy isn't exactly great right now, but I still think it's smart to put something in a rainy-day fund, even if it's just $17. When you add up all those small monthly expenses—internet, cigarettes, cell phone bills—it actually turns into a decent amount over time.

What’s your take on this? Are you savers, or do you live by the "you only live once, so spend it while you've got it" mentality?🙂

blueharbor17, we’re definitely on the same wavelength here. I’ve always been big on keeping a little nest egg tucked away, though I’ve definitely taken some hits over the years trying to play the currency markets, especially when dealing with the US dollar... eventually, I figured out how to read the trends and stay one step ahead, so I've managed to come out ahead a few times, but these days I mostly just stick to the Australian dollar and the yen.

Exactly, the issue is how volatile these currencies can be. It feels like the US dollar and the British pound are actually some of the most stable ones out there.

The pound isn't going to last forever though... you gotta watch your step with it since it’s seen some massive crashes before and hasn't really grown much, like dropping 30% since we switched over to the Euro...

What’s your take on the Norwegian Crown😕

The crown seems solid enough... though I'm not sure if it can weather the inevitable collapse of the Euro, which looks pretty certain at this point. Only things like the Australian dollar or the Yen might actually pull through that mess...

Is there any chance for growth if the Euro takes a hit?

So there’s your answer... the dollar used to be the rock-solid standard, but it’s starting to wobble along with the Euro since they’re so tied together... most non-European currencies are holding steady, except for the ones pegged strictly to the Greenback or anything tied to oil prices...

Ever given much thought to a home savings plan?
Even if you’re just tucking away $33 a little bit every month, stick with it for five years and you'll see some real growth from
federal incentive funds. It bumps up your total significantly, meaning your interest ends up looking way better than what you'd get from a standard CD.

Yeah, I definitely save up. Honestly, I just love having a little extra cash tucked away. Don't get me wrong, I’m not obsessed with money—but let's be real, you need it to live! Plus, having a rainy-day fund gives me such a great sense of security, and I'll admit, I'm a huge fan of feeling secure. 😉

You can actually build up some decent cash just by hoarding every single coin you get. I make it a point to grab every bit of change from the register when I'm out shopping—even if it’s just a couple of pennies, don't leave them sitting on the counter.
I never carry loose change around; I pay with bills and then dump whatever coins I get back straight into a jar the second I walk through my front door. Some days it’s more than $3.25, other days it feels like I'm just collecting nickels, but the key is to keep stuffing that jar. After a few months, I take it to the bank and I always walk away with at least $133 (once I actually hit about $200). If you use a bigger jar, obviously it takes longer to fill up, but you'll end up with a much larger 😉. At the end of the year, this little habit nets me at least $333.

Look, I'm not saying this is going to make you rich or provide some massive financial safety net, but having an extra 😉 never hurts.

Government incentives are officially a thing of the past. I went to extend my savings account this year, and they informed me that federal subsidies have been completely phased out—which matches what I’ve been seeing on the news lately.
I've always made it a point to set aside any extra cash, whether it's a gift or money from summer side gigs. I don't see much point in blowing money on trivialities when I already have everything I need; besides, you never know when you might actually need it.

Back when I was working, I saved up a little something. Honestly, if I hadn't been acting like some "drunk billionaire," I probably could’ve tucked away way more 🙄 for myself. But hey, those savings are still keeping me afloat even though I haven't had a job in over a year. 🙂 It basically covers my nights out, coffee runs, phone bill, internet, skincare... everything. Food and basics are covered at home, but at least I’m not begging anyone for cash.

And yeah, I’m with you on the loose change thing—it really adds up. One time, I filled up a jar over three months and ended up with about $200 😲 I was actually shocked by how much was in there. Before that, I used to just blow any extra cash on whatever, just so my wallet wouldn't feel heavy. 😵

Whenever I can and as often as possible—yes.
It’s not wise to be stingy, but setting aside some extra cash whenever you get the chance is just smart...

I’m not really saving anything at the moment, but I am *constantly* planning to! And then, whenever I finally tell myself, "Okay, this is the month," something totally random always pops up out of nowhere and ruins everything. It drives me absolutely insane! Honestly, I just have zero clue what I'm doing when it comes to money...

I used to, I guess, but honestly? Not really anymore. Lately, I’ve been thinking maybe it’s finally time to get serious about actually saving some cash, probably by looking into a CD or something similar.

Honestly, I’m not even saving right now because there isn't anything left to save 😁.
Once I land a job, though, I’m setting up a high-yield savings account immediately and putting a recurring transfer on autopilot to move a chunk of cash over every single month.
