Burning Man: August 17-22, 2011

We’re pretty stoked to finally be able to invite you all to the very first installment of the Lost Theory festival—our first big American edition!
After spending several years just celebrating life and music over in Belgium, we finally decided it was time for a change of scenery. We’re making a pivot toward the US and teaming up with some like-minded American enthusiasts. We actually found this incredible valley in Yosemite, right near Yellowstone, where we’ll be setting up camp. We managed to get the green light and full support from the local community here, and honestly, they've welcomed us with open arms.

The festival is tucked away in this valley, surrounded by rolling hills and sitting right under this massive, endless sky.
You could spend your time playing around in the woods, exploring our local canyon, just soaking in that massive sense of open space, or maybe cooling off in a small private lake. I guess it’s one of those places where you can just disappear for a bit.

Our location is pretty much the perfect home base if you actually want to explore the area. You’ve got plenty of options depending on how much energy you have—you could just go for a hike, grab a bike, or try your hand at rafting. If you're feeling more of a tourist vibe, you can check out Yellowstone, which is a UNESCO site, or wander through Mammoth Cave and the Nikola Tesla museum. There’s even the option to go paragliding over the festival grounds, though I guess that depends on how brave you're feeling.

Because we actually care about good music, we decided to shake things up with the lineup this year. We’re setting up four different stages, mostly with the goal of making sure there's something to satisfy your ears and, I guess, give you a reason to actually move. First up, we’ve got the Psytrance stage, which will feature a pretty wide spectrum of music spanning both day and night sets. Then there’s the Main Stage—think IDM, acid, dub, techno, experimental, and probably a whole bunch of other stuff too—where we’ll be bringing in some outside collectives to take over the vibe and lead their own musical journeys. If you need a break, there’s a chill-out forest area where you can just listen to some relaxing tracks and maybe catch some interesting stories. And finally, last but definitely not least, we have a surprise stage. I can't really tell you much more than that, other than it's basically going to be a party within a party.

We’re planning on pulling together an international crew of artists to help us bridge the gap between nature and community. The goal, I guess, is to craft this cohesive atmosphere where humanity and the great outdoors kind of collide in a seamless, wellness-focused mix. They'll be tasked with designing and building a unified infrastructure meant to spark some deep thought and emotional connection, which—if everything goes according to plan—should take the whole festival experience to a completely different level.

A festival isn't just an event; it’s more like a living, breathing entity that exists to create opportunities. It provides those windows of time where you can actually connect with people, share ideas, and just lean into whatever vibe you're feeling in the moment—or even plan for the next one. We're basically inviting you to help us build this collective momentum. It's about shaping your own little personal ritual, fueled by the music, the art, and the people around you. Or at least, that's how I see it.

The whole idea behind this festival is to serve as a platform for people to actually show off what they’ve been working on. I guess that goes for anyone who hasn't quite caught on yet: if you have a solid concept, a project you're proud of, some wild build you've been dreaming up, or maybe a film you shot that deserves an audience—or even just a topic you feel strongly about discussing—please, don't hold back. Seriously, just shoot us a message with your ideas. We'd love to hear them.

We’re running this thing completely independently, which basically means we don't have any massive corporate sponsors backing us up. Instead, we're sticking strictly to products from small local businesses and family farms. You won't find big-name corporations like Coca-Cola being sold at the festival. I guess that's just how we're doing things.

I think that’s pretty much it for now. Keep your eyes peeled for updates and any interesting tidbits we might drop along the way. We'll be sure to let you know as things start to take shape. And hey, if you want to look like a total veteran, you can always claim you were here since day one—it's a decent enough flex, I guess.

Watching SCOPE perform live at the Lost Theory festival in Belgium was... an experience, I suppose. It’s hard to pin down exactly how it felt, though. Maybe it was just the atmosphere of the crowd or the way the set unfolded, but there was a certain quality to the performance that stayed with me. It wasn't anything loud or over-the-top, just a very specific vibe that seemed to hit right when it needed to. I guess you could say it was one of those moments where everything just sort of aligned.

Yeah, it’s not exactly cheap. I mean, when you look at something like Ozora, it feels steep, but for us, $60 is basically nothing, and you're probably going to blow $15 on drinks during the festival anyway... maybe they'll drop the price. They're Belgian, so who knows 🙂

There's a lot of dark stuff and plenty of names on the Main Stage... I suspect the Mixed Stage might be pretty interesting too (though I honestly don't recognize half the lineup either)

$70, but yeah, that's what I figured too because you have to spend money there regardless.
It's not a small amount, honestly; it sits right in line with other major European festivals, and considering the caliber of this lineup, I'd say the price is perfectly legitimate. :rationalizing and justifying the expense: 😬

As for the music, I've listed eight DJs here, though that list is far from final.

I am genuinely glad to see larger-scale festivals happening in America; even the smaller ones, like those local shows in Indianapolis, have their own unique charm.
In any case, this is definitely a prime destination for festival season. 😍

The only issue is the timing; it’s a bit messy since I'll be traveling right after the trip to New Jersey and Mexico...

If Mixed Maniu would just separate themselves from all those hippies and cut the ticket price in half, I might actually consider going... But right now, it’s just another one of those overpriced foreign festivals that keeps finding a way to set up shop in our neck of the woods...

how much would a ticket run if I showed up, say, on Saturday at 5 PM and stayed until Sunday at 4 AM? does that count as a 2-day pass or... how does it work? 😁
