So, we have a new moderator over on the Jokes subforum, and for reasons known only to her, she’s decided that the Funny Photos thread can no longer include animated GIFs. Honestly, pretty much every single forum on the internet has a thread like this, and they all allow GIFs. She went ahead and opened a new thread, and most people are totally against it. Now, when I'm bored, I actually have nothing left to read. 😬

What’s with the sudden rule change? Why mess with a thread that has 350,000 hits?

I am in full agreement 🙂

Let us continue to enjoy these moments of levity 👋

My signature stays the same as it was on that other thread.
I also sent a note over to the administrators, since I can't quite wrap my head around why there's such pushback when so many of us actually enjoyed the funny photo thread and we haven't run into any issues until now.

Alright, let's just hang tight for a second while we figure out what's actually going on here.

What's even the big deal here? She just closed one thread and started another, right?

So she decided to separate the GIFs and photos from the main discussion? Honestly, I don't see any issue with that at all.

Same goes for trolling or people just being loud for the sake of it—that kind of stuff isn't allowed on unknown either.

I’m asking the administrators to please unlock that first Funny Photo thread that the moderator shut down on the forum earlier today!!! Just so you know, like people have already pointed out above me, that moderator doesn't even have a single meaningful post on the Jokes board. She hasn't even been moderating that section for a full week yet, and she's already throwing her weight around!

She decided to separate GIFs from photos, and I honestly don't see the problem with that.

By that logic, trolling, cheering, and all that other nonsense isn't allowed on unknown either.

Oh, come on. You aren't actually trying to drive people off the forum, are you? Just make William Myers7 the moderator for that thread and call it a day.
She wasn't doing her job—people were out there trying to sell cars in those threads and she didn't even touch them; instead, she just showed up in the "funny photos" section and poked the bear. How can someone be a moderator when they haven't even posted a single thing on that specific PDF?

Let's be real for a second...

Hold on a second, so you're telling me anyone who hasn't even stepped foot in that subforum or written a single damn post can just become a moderator—in this case, a modette—and start enforcing their own little "rules"? What was her big problem anyway, was the thread getting trashed with insults or massive images? No, it was just a regular picture, except now apparently because it's a GIF, we need a whole separate thread for it. For what? Are we gonna make a new thread for every single image format from here on out? Come on, man, that's just ridiculous.
And if it isn't a secret, how did she even get appointed moderator over there? 🤷 Thanks.

315,485 views and 3,338 posts. 🙏 Honestly, this was one of those rare, gold-standard threads—the kind that actually lifts people's spirits without triggering a single flame war—until some power-tripping moderator with a mere 1,500 posts decided she was personally offended by a few GIFs and shut the whole thing down. 😠 It’s almost poetic, really; the thread had been running smoothly for two and a half years before she even thought about signing up for this site, remaining a constant source of fun until... well, let's just say until *she* showed up 🤣

William Myers7 absolutely deserves a moderator spot—he’s easily one of the most active guys in the jokes section

Yeah, I guess that’s exactly where the issue lies—she just showed up out of nowhere without having contributed a single thing to the community first. And nobody even bothered to check with our regular contributors, especially William Myers7, to see if he’d be interested in stepping up as a moderator, even though he’s practically around here every single day. It feels like she just forced her way in, which, if you ask me, is a pretty shameless 🤷
.
At this rate, under these new rules, they might as well just start a dedicated thread specifically for .jpg, .gif, .jpeg, and .bmp files or something 🤷

Jeffrey Cooper7 said:Nah, it’s just an image, right? Except it's a GIF—a moving picture—and now we have to deal with a whole separate thread just for that. Like, why?

Because standard images usually hover around 100 KB, but those GIFs can easily blow up past 1 MB.

But if they really need to be kept in separate threads, why on earth was the GIF topic locked, and why did the guy end up with a warning?

Kate Castillo55 said:Yeah, that’s exactly where the issue lies. She just waltzed in out of nowhere without even leaving a single post first. And honestly? None of us regular guests—especially William Myers7, who's basically there every single day—were ever even asked if we wanted to step up as moderators. It feels like she just forced her way in, which, if you ask me, is pretty outrageous. 🤷

I mean, it's not like you need some PhD or anything just to moderate jokes. 🙂With nothing but respect for Zodiac and Countess.

So, under these new rules, they basically ought to just open a whole separate thread for .jpg, .gif, .jpeg, .bmp, and all that other junk. Seriously. 🤷

No, look, just check what I actually wrote in my last post.

Kate Castillo55 said:So if everything is supposed to be kept separate, why'd they go and lock the GIF thread? And why did that guy get slapped with a ban? It doesn't really add up if there's a specific spot for everything.
I can't believe I'm even typing this out, but seriously, what is going on with the way people talk online lately? It’s like everyone just lost their minds. I was scrolling through some threads earlier and honestly, my brain felt like it was melting. So, I saw this thing where Zachary Thompson2 was talking about some random drama, and it was just... wow. Just pure chaos. And then you get people like mellowgull80 jumping in with comments that make zero sense. It's like we're living in a simulation where logic just went out the window. And don't even get me started on the political stuff. Every time I open an app, it feels like someone's trying to start a fight over nothing. It's exhausting. You see these huge arguments breaking out between people who wouldn't even say hello to each other in a Starbucks, yet they're acting like it's life or death. It’s just weird. Anyway, I guess I'm just rambling. My head is kind of spinning today. Everything feels a bit too loud, if that makes sense? Like, can we just go back to when things were chill? Just a thought.

The whole thing is just trolling and poorly managed—seriously, you can't even start a thread with a single smiley face anymore. It’s ridiculous.

I don't see any provocations, nor do I see any "antics" whatsoever, 🤷

If they're going to make such claims, perhaps they could clarify what exactly is permitted on unknown?🙄
For starters, do we actually have a legitimate vote here, or is this entire thing just one big farce?☕

Oh, really? And how does that even matter? Like, is the page actually going to crawl to a halt just because there are too many GIFs in a thread? I don't get the connection...
And another thing. Usually, before any moderator gets appointed to a subforum, there's an intro thread to introduce them, but on the Jokes subforum, there was absolutely nothing—it's like this woman just dropped in from Mars onto that subforum and now she’s suddenly dictating all these specific rules about how things should be run. Just one more question, if you don't mind me asking—since we aren't living in North Korea or anything—what were the actual requirements for her getting assigned to a section where she’s never even stepped foot before? 🤷Sorry, but this whole thing just feels totally lame...☕

I decided to separate GIFs from photos. I don't see anything wrong with that.

But that’s exactly the point: you get a huge collection of images mixed with just a few GIFs per page. It’s perfect—just like how every major US forum operates. Scrolling through a massive wall of nothing but GIFs is exhausting, and waiting for them all to load is a pain. Not to mention when you're copying content over to other boards; you don't have to worry about what's animated and what isn't. With this setup, you do. It's just more work for no reason.

One more thing. Usually, before anyone becomes a moderator on a subforum, there's an intro thread to introduce them. But on the Jokes subforum, that never happens. It’s like some woman just fell from Mars onto that board and now she’s suddenly making up all these rules for us. Just wondering—if you don't mind me asking—we aren't exactly in North Korea, but what are the actual requirements for someone to get appointed to a subforum they've never been part of before? 🤷 Sorry, but I really can't get behind that...☕

Hey everyone, let's dial back the attacks on the moderator. There’s really no need to question her ability to lead. One decision—whether it was right or wrong—doesn't define someone's entire track record. Moving moderators between different subforums isn't anything new, and that's the case with Countess too. Let's drop the personal stuff; we can just discuss the actual issue with the thread and figure it out.

Paul Anderson7 Zachary Thompson2 said:If nothing changes, I’m honestly ready to start trolling her all over this board and leaving nonsense under every single one of her posts. She’ll end up getting banned by the admin because things just can't work like this. At this rate, she’ll be gone before any of us. With 1,500 posts—most of them just cluttering up various chat threads—she shouldn't be allowed to moderate there. Just remove her.

What I wrote applies to you specifically. You aren't helping yourself or anyone else by acting this way, so there's really no point. You don't need a long-term ban over something so trivial, so just try to relax. We can talk about whatever topics you want, but let's skip the pointless drama. Enough with the nonsense; nobody has the patience for this kind of stuff.

Can we just take a breath? I’d really like to talk about this calmly.

It’s just because it was deleted 😁

Jeffrey Cooper7 said:Oh yeah? What does that even have to do with anything? Like, why would a page load slowly just because there are too many GIFs in a thread? I don't get it...

Yeah, it uses more data, which is actually a pretty big deal for people browsing on their phones out and about.

but what are the actual rules for putting it in that sub-forum where it hasn't been before? 🤷 Sorry, but that feels totally pointless to me...☕

It was proposed and approved.

Not to mention when you copy-paste stuff from threads to other forums—you don't have to worry about what's animated and what isn't. With this, you do. More hassle. Totally unnecessary.

Yeah, but this way you actually have a choice without losing any functionality.

So what, are GIFs on this new thread gonna suck up less data than if they were paired up with regular photos? 😕

It was proposed and approved.

Who actually put her up for it? I’m guessing Zodiac, but honestly, I don't get the logic—how does someone who’s never even stepped foot in that subforum suddenly become a moderator overnight? Does that mean any one of us could be nominated by a mod for the Politics section, even if we never hang out there, and then suddenly we're calling the shots and making our own rules? Man, things are getting weird...

Ahem... maybe I should suggest a little Solomon-style compromise here.

Why don't you guys just reopen that old thread and tack ''and GIFs'' onto the title?
Problem solved.

And while you're at it, get rid of this nickname...
